hey bro i noticed u mentioned that ur ph droped to 3.2 well idk if u adjust that or not but i believe hydro should be at 5.5 ph roughly so maybe it could be from that as 2 why ur leaves are burning slightly. but yea that setup looks great bro how much did u pay for those black dog lights?? And bout how big is the foot print on those lights?? im currently running 2 perfectsun dwarf stars and a 1000w cob light in my flower tent right now. I think my next light purchase will be some quantum boards or some kind of white light grow tech. im seeing some great results with the white lights..
Yeah. You really need to do something when your Ph is 3.2. For the past week or so I have been running it a little high 6.2-6.4 to help with calcium bioavailability, but it's ironically at 5.7 as I write this.
Thanks man it was fun to build, and works fairly well... those lights aren't cheap. Let's just say I could cob most of my living room with the price I paid for these 2 lights. If I knew then what I know now I would have a home made cob set up right now. I still have unanswered questions about cob lights. You always see the color temp in their light specs, but never the spectrum in nm. You can build a rig with a spectrum that will satisfy grow and bloom, but does it pay to have a fixture with separate color temps to get a better spectral condition for each phase of growth. I have asked some knowledgeable folks on other forums, but haven't really gotten a straight answer. I will say that the whole topic has become a team sport like football and politics. If you are on a team, yours is the best. Much like the debate between MH/HPS growers and LED guys. Cob guys a lot of times look down on any purple LED as "old tech.". Thankfully the folks on this forum are much more civil than places like Roll It Up. You need your shots up to date to post there.
Sounds like your light situation is sorted. I've used Platinum P300s, Platinum P4, G8,"flower" deep red lights, T5s, Spectrum King 400+, Black Dog P2 400s, and i will try out the Nanolux 315 LEC on this grow. My most successful grow ever was with my Platinum P4 it grew a 9 ounce plant, so Im not one to dis purple lights.
The Black Dogs are the Phytomax 2 400watt fixtures. Attached is a spec sheet for footprint. I wanted 2 600s but that wouldn't have worked out very well. Last grow I had some bleaching from over 15 inches away. I had a wicked case of nute lock, so that may have helped a little, but the lights are pretty strong.
I'm sure I'm thinking way too hard about the specifications of cob lights. CLEARLY, they can grow pot. And do it with authority. If you look at what Grandpa Tokin has in his room, his lights and plants are doing the dance. Trichomes on trichomes its really pretty amazing. It's too bad hes 2000 miles away! Now, i would honestly say most of that is probably genetics, but if you ain't got the light you arent gonna end up with what he's got... plain and simple. I will build a cob rig someday. I'm sure I could sell my black dogs and put that toward a very nice cob kit. Someday.
Here are some pics of that 9 ounce plant. Buds were super dense, and rock hard. The strain is Barneys farm Ayahuasca Purple. I need 15 more just like it
