Unfurling Maple Leaves
I knew you'd appreciate this Rad. Out pushing Dale so he could enjoy a joint, I came across a tiny Violet in danger of being trampled because it chose to rise up between sidewalk panels. So I dug it out. Now, here I am, tiny violet in hand, no container to put it in and desperately in need of soil and water. I wanted to bring it home and plant it in my waiting pot, since it'll be months before it gets planted with cannabis, and why not grow violets in there? I miss violets.
I looked around, looking for God knows what, and in a flash of inspiration I ripped off the largest burdock leaf growing next to a telephone pole, scooped up some soil, wrapped the tiny Violet up inside like a baby and secured it with my hair tie. It gave me a chance to do that trophy wife hair flip for him too, which was a nice bonus.
It looked pretty ragged when I finally got it back to the room and gave it water. Looks pretty good now. I'll plant in the morning.
Your serpent's tail looks awesome from above. Such imagination, and a willingness to put in the hard work to bring the dream to life. Sweet.
Is your soil temp high enough for watermelons?
If not, you may want to try them in strawbales. Nice and toasty.
SweetSue: Travois of burdock and barette was awesome.
Even down here I like to give my melons extra heat and extra time. That, and the soil-building benefits alone make it worthwhile, regardless of crop.
Only problem I've run into w/straw bales was pill-bugs (aka roly-polys) in the bales. Lots of them and they seem to really like cantaloupe leaves. They can ruin a crop.
I love robins! Such haughty little boogers. We have them aplenty, but they're ill-equipped to dig through a bale w/strings still on. Other melons did fine, but the cantaloupes were skeletonized early. Non-starters.
