Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Rad,
have you ever noticed slow starting seeds equal stunted growth? Or vice versa?

Gauge

I'll go with SweetSue's "not really" answer. I've only started about 15-20 plants from seed over 3 years.

+1 on intermatic timers (Intermatic P1131)... I did just burnt up my first one but took me 2 years .... the digital ones.. meh, they suck. Just sayin...

The P1131 is a 20amp timer and must be sure its grounded (don't ask me why ... something to do with the failure of my 1st one)! :lot-o-toke:
operator error.

The timers take a pretty big hit at lights on... large inrush current for a very very short time.

Rad - Sorry about the little one... better to have it fail now than later.

Both my timers are 15 amp manual timers now. The veg timer, because I've never run more than 400W through it. The flower timer, because they only had 15 amp and my max load is under 900W.

The sudden load in flower is not so bad. 250W immediately, and 600 more watts a few random number of seconds later when the digital ballast decides to release the 600W HPS. It appears to click up the 600 watts of power in 2 steps about 15 seconds apart, but maybe thats just the way HPS lights turn on and heat up.

On the fence with regard to female male cannabis. Woody is right all dicots have both female and male genetics...that I do know and also there's 20% chance to get both sexes on the same plant... With the Exotic gear I've been getting 80% ... nanners on most of the plants but it happens very early shortly after female flowers start forming, I've been getting nanners down low on the laf. Trim the LAF problem solved. Do get a few seeds from time to time and nanners.. not just from Exotic gear either.

It's genetics and its still being researched... like humans. Some of us are born with both bits.... why we have all that weird bathroom shit going on in schools nowadays. We are finally starting to realize there's a few more folks (and plants) that are both male and female than what was believed... errrr or talked about. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Hermaphrodites have rights too, just not in my gardens. Sorry you have to use the bathroom out by my compost bin, and don't let the cover hit you in the roots on your way in. problem solved and problems avoided!

'nanners don't bother me, not at the low level of seeds they produce. A couple of years back I read 3 different books on human hermaphrodites. Intersexed appears to be the preferred term. As far as I know, the vast majority of intersex births are 'corrected' by doctors without ever informing the parents, the child, or recording the fact in their records. There appears to be a higher than normal amount of 'gay' and sexually ambivalent adults that were born intersexed - but there are no statistics gathered to really know.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should re-up with Agromax pure par veg lights?

The leaf colors seemed to be darker and healthier under the agromax than under standard veg lights. They have both a blue and red element that I am hearing (here) might lead to more male seedlings.

Photos from the flower area

CBD Critical Cure is at about 30 days in flower. At 22-24 days her flowers were skinny, wispy flowers about the width of my pinky finger.

At 30? days, Critical Cure buds are now loose collections of skinny, wispy, pinkie sized flowers.

Carnival is at 67? days and foxtailing like crazy. She has one cola this size.

20170723_171036-1.jpg

Carmival has 2 colas this size. Her pistils are darkening. I think she has 7-10 more days to go.
The buds aren't as dense as they look, so bud rot isn't as big a risk as it might be.

Not Agro specifically, but in my research into PAR and various kinds of light sources, the horticultural fluorescents have very high PAR compared to even standard fluoros. You'll get the cost back with the better spectral mix.

Hadn't heard about the female/male ratio though ... :hmmmm: ...

What time of year did you grow each? Lower temps will slow down plant growth. Did you check the roots to make sure they were both developed well? Something I've noticed with clones is that some don't seem to have the vigor that others do.

Mother was November through April, Clone was February through July so ..
The Clone experienced warmer night time lows, wamer daytime temps in veg (80 vs 76) and the same daytime temps in flower(81-84)

I could definitely do better with all my roots. In the last 3 harvests, the shape of the 1 gallon veg container has shown clearly in the roots. I have been reminding myself to cut the rootball during transplant. The Borderliner clone did not have enough root growth, I don't remember about the Borderliner mother.

With clones, I have had better vigor with cuttings from the top of the plant than cutting from lower branches. I assume it has something to do with the hormones of the apical meristem.

This is my first grow where I am taking good notes on each harvest, and contrasting this run vs the prior runs, so I appreciate any feedback. I was very pleased with 4 oz from a 12" high plant (mother.) I expected to get about the same yield, or slightly better from the 15" high plant (clone.)

Do you think the fact that the mother had many more budsites might be the difference?

My pop was a pediatrician... so as a curious little fellow.. I asked a lot of questions based on my experiences with neighbor twins. Couldn't figure out if girl or boy on one of them (the one that kicked me in the balls when I was like 7). My dad opened my eyes to the real world and its as you say. The percentage is much higher than advertised.... but under the covers <--- see what I did there.!!

Don't mean to junk up the thread but I have a nephew that was sorta undetermined and the docs had to make a choice.

I wonder, and hope, that the docs are more informed now, perhaps making better choices ... ? More accurate tests or something? But life is life, and it doesn't always follow our rules.

:Namaste:

Life doesn't play by the rules? :thedoubletake:

Neither do I. :cheesygrinsmiley:

All these social fears we carry around as a species. I don't get it.

Rad, your CBD Critical Cure looks more like a haze. Lol! I went looking and found pictures of SAMtheAPman's lovely specimen.

Thank so much for the picture.

I had trouble seeing the connection between those buds and the ones I am growing, but when I looked back on his thread, I see a resemblance. I'd be totally happy with a 100g CBD Critical Cure like that one pictured :)

I opened up the flower area 15 minutes before lights on and snapped a few photos

Delicatessen Lily, her buds are starting to set, so she gets a cat drench tomorrow

CBD Critical Cure - I'm curious to see how the buds form. She reaches away from the HPS towards the hanging COBs.

Hey Rad, your plants are looking amazing brother!! Have you ever smoked Carnival before? I know that SweetSue loves it. Curious if you share that same sentiment.

SweetSue got tired of me never having smoked Carnival, so pointed a couple of seeds my way. This is my first run.

These Carnival buds are the fatest buds I've ever seen in my garden. I'm looking forward to the taste :)

We are running low on meds around the house, all that ancilliary recreational toking :), so I hope I can set some Carnival aside for a long cure before she gets all smoked up :)

Hey there Rad... Props to Sweet Sue! You got it going and props to you for the big frosty ass colas wow!

Getting close, fade and fans a falling.. how many times were you holding the pruners and said "step back away from Carnival"??? Hard not to chop, low on meds...uh-oh, plant looks good... Have a house vote.. well maybe not a "vote" but could do a "poll".. hahaha

My vote ... smoke em if ya got em.. just sayin... can you pass that big tall bong over here... please? :roorrip:

Looks like some good things happening in the Rad gardens!

I offered fresh low and slo dried Carnival to the BIL today, and you should have seen his eyes light up. :laughtwo: I don't know if much of the last harvest will survive for long. Lol! Are you getting the sharp scent of lime from her yet?

Hey Rad.
I was reading lilly being described as a 'shorter' strain. For a mostly sativa, how do you think she grew? moderate strech?
I was actually looking at the upstream Lilly x Himalaya cross. Cruising the ace seeds site leads me astray again. :surf:

just curious

My Lily is a sativa that seems to grow like an indica heavy hybrid.
The mother went into flower at 18" tall and finished at 35" tall in 54 days for a yield of 94g.

The clone also went into flower at 18" tall and so far looks like she will end up about the same size. She is about 3-5 days behind her mother in the pace of flowering. I feel like she will go 58-64 days under the flowering lights. It's too early to guess about yield.
