Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

LEO waves at me as I sit on the front porch.

I left all my finery *except for a few rings* at home when I went to a planning meeting today. My local alderman, the mayor, and a few other officials were there - so I changed clothes and scrubbed real good after hours harvesting and trimming

My alderman doesn't care. He's a berniecrat out of the occupy movement - and I suspect his wife does a bit of spellwork. With 5 suspected or confirmed witches, 2 brewmasters, and 6 confirmed marijuana smokers in the neighborhood - I don't really stand out :)

I harvested one of the big girls - the other, Ace Mix, is just happily growing in the corner with totally clear trichomes.

Nice... not standing out... better get a 2nd opinion on that! hahahaha 6 confirmed... in order to qualify, they have to live at an alternate location.... Mars, Jupiter or even the Moon works!

Congrats on your harvest. Man it's been a long time since I've had buds that big n fat! You're in the passing lane my friend, keep the hammer down! Every thing is looking fantastic! Healthy plants, what a difference a year makes, eh? That Doc Bud gear is working for you big time. Good job.

Oh.. IPM don't forget the IPM, I somehow had an AUTO plant (different location than my big girls) infested with Aphids the other day. I caught it right away but they are relentless... I had to take the plant outside spray with a hose then treat with Monterrey Spray.. Those buggers are even worse than mites. They don't care what I spray on em... they are in our outdoor gardens on some plants so we tracked them in... making me itch again talking about em. I took a look at those aphids under the scope...yuk. man they suck and a shit ton of different parts to the life cycle.

To be fair, I've almost always stood out in a crowd. It's just the way I was born :)

I put lot of time (instead of money) into shopping for humdifiers and dehumidifiers so I could control the humidity levels. That, along with Doc Bud's Kit and improved genetics is really starting to pay off in the harvests.

Aphids are one of nature's most creative at reproducing. 17 different methods if I remember correctly - including eggs, skipping stages, live young, and born pregnant. :)

IPM isn't part of the core Doc Bud Kit. I have my Neem oil and soap ready but I set the intention that there will be no issues this next month.

No photos from today - stealthy I guess :)

Planted the AK47 clone, granddaughter of my first harvest this journal. She is in 2nd run soil, as are the Guawi (I'm saying it Wawee - Guatemala and Malawi) and Haze x Kali China (China Haze or Kali Haze - Kali Durga seems a bit fierce to be picturing here) - planted today from water sprouted seeds. The last of the first run soil is in pots and 2nd run soil is making the rounds.

Cut up the Lilly trunk and fed it to the worms.

Cut up the Lilly Root ball (Despite starting in a short pot and curling her tap toot, she filled the 7-gallon pot evenly), added 2 liters of worm castings, 8 liters of water, and Doc Bud amendment to cook for at least a month.

Top dressed the two of the girls in flower with a double handful worm castings and a handful of Doc Bud's Re-Charge.

Noted that my veg room got up to 82 degrees today, and I don't have a strategy to cool it down.

Noted that I don't have TDS in my current water test kit so I will have to plan how to test my RO water to see if filters need changing.

Decided to wait another week or so on transplanting the next girl into a 7-gallon pot, even though she is demanding frequent watering in a 1-gallon pot.

Drenched 5 plants and putzed around.

I came across this on another forum.

"The ACE Mix standard and fem currently contains ErdPurt and hybrids, Nepal Jam and hybrids, Orient Express and hybrids, Bangi Haze fast flowering hybrids, fast flowering PCK hybrids, Hashplant hybrids, Kali China hybrids.

The Tropical Mix standard mainly contains Zamaldelica (more open pollinated lines), Guatemala, Tikal x sativa hybrids and Oldtimer's Haze tropical hybrids.
The Tropical Mix fem mainly contains Malawi and Panama hybrids and Tikal fem sativa hybrids.

Dubi"

If you have the non tropical mix, that would mean yours is probably a nep-jam or Bangi Haze, possible hybrid of either one from what I've seen of her. Kali China hybrid would be possible as well. Yours looks a bit to sativa like to have kali China in it though. Just thought you might be interested in the info.

Peace

Thanks for the information. My Ace Mix looks to be a 10+ week flowering strain with massive buds and, if I remember correctly, large sativa leaves. She is tied up in the back right corner of the room for about 3 weeks now under yellow HPS light so my impressions are outdated. I haven't been able to take a good look at her trichomes for over a week.

I'm will move things around a bit so I can do a daily examination with a loupe as we approach the harvest window.

In my previous flowering room, I could walk into the center and get up close to all the plants without moving anything. I miss the extra space.

I'm in the same boat as you. Gotta pull everything out to get to the back of the room.

That sounds like Bangi or nepjam. They both are pretty heavy producers and are shorter flowering sativas. I'm looking at Bangi as a starting point to make a sativa strain that I can grow outdoors. Quick and very resistant to extreme weather.

must grow more... must grow bigger... must grow better.... must fill that open spot with a few plants.....

(summoning my best Donald Sutherland alla Kelly's Heros)
Issues man.... always with the issues man.

Donald Sutherland was over at my house yesterday - but not that Donald Sutherland.

You do everything wrong ... (Buffy starts to speak) No!.. Do it wrong!

Yea im also looking for a strain to hold up against xtrem weather i keep getting super hot spells over here n its hitting up to 90 degrees f in the flower tent even with the ac on i was thinkn on geting another perfect sun dwarf star an use that to replace the 3 mars hydro 150w i have in there now plus get another small like 150 cfm or 200 cfm jus to run sum ducting from right over where the ac unit shoots out cold air n shoot it into the tent right over the lights?? What do u think any ideas on how i can cool it down in there i wud greatly appreciate it thanx every1 and dam rad that lily is lookn nice and the other 1 u had tied up jesus i cant wait to have a gud enuf grow area to grow sum buds like that u great growers on here is what pushes me to keep trying everything out so that way ill find whatever way works best for me n then jus tryn keep improving from there lol but yea man lookn great congrats ohh yea i almost forgot to ask how do u do ur oven quick dry what temp an for how long and do u use those oven bags to put ur bud in??

People seem to really like the cobs and say they are really low on heat production. You could also try running your lights on at night instead of days when it's hotter out.

Yea i already switched the time the lights are on to at night so they r off during the day n on at night n as for cobs i jus dnt understand the setups to make ur own n i cant really afford any timber gear and i dont know of any other cheaper brands that are made already and that still work lol

Hey Rad! Is 82 to warm for a veg space? I was under the impression that was pretty normal.

Iguess 82 isn't too warm. It's just that for months I was averaging 78 mid-day in the veg area (I only run 216W of CFL in there.)
I didn't really expect my basement to warm up this much, but it's pretty much heat from my grow areas.

It's pretty much trial and error and asking people to get your grow area to have predictable temperatures. It is a struggle, which is why I was so excited when I walked into a cool basement last summer with walls and doors and a big stone foundation to act as a heat sink.

I oven dry per SweetSue and Israeli scientists 230F for 110 minutes. I have used a turkey bag, but the inside of my house smells like weed on a pretty much continual basis, so it was done mostly as an experiment. The turkey bag worked.

My recent big girl harvest, Lilly, yielded 5 nice head nugs and weighing in at 3.3 oz - so the same amount or less as my medium sized girl harvests. I'm happy with 3.3 oz, it passed my 2.5 oz minimum per plant goal - but it looked like well over 4 oz to me before harvest.

Garden Update

Tangerine Widow (40 days) - I topped TW1 about a week ago, so I can put the clone in the flower area for a sex test. I was going to wait until her nodes went alternating, but I forgot.

20170611_153326-11.jpg

I do enjoy the symetry of seedlings - something I only see during startup and when looking for new strains

20170611_153350-11.jpg

Tangerine Widow looks like she will have nice branch structure after her top was removed.

20170611_153356-11.jpg

I have another Tangerine Widow seed I planted 2 weeks ago. I don't want another big gap in the flower area because of males.

Carnival (8 days since planting the clone) - The roots were just nubs, but they hooked up fine.

20170611_154655-11.jpg

She went into the ground with 2 large leaves and one set of leaflings - she has filled out rather fast so I started her on nutes.

20170611_154314-11.jpg

That was all I watered in the veg area.

Over in the flower area, I decided to pull out Ace Mix and take a look at her. She was in the back, so a couple other girls had to come out first.

Borderliner (60 days from clone - 21 days in flower area) She has been leaning away from other plants to pickup more light.

20170611_155639-1.jpg

Borderliner canopy is currently 22x16" @ 28" tall. She entered flower with an 18x16" canopy @ 15" tall.
She is on track to be a mid-sized girl like her mother.

20170611_155848.jpg

Starburst buds now have a little puffball shape, so I gave her her first Cationic Drench.

20170611_155818-1.jpg

Like her mother, Borderliner is stacking her buds early.

20170611_155825-1.jpg

AK47 XTRM (35 days) - Her branches are a little weak, so I won't be moving her very much

20170611_160219-2.jpg

AK47 has been a reliable predictable plant with a clear, energetic sativa boost.

20170611_160237-1.jpg

Ace Mix (56 days) - When I first saw her side view, over half her fan leaves were gone. I untied her and she lay down flat.

20170611_160704-1.jpg

I tried to hold her up with my left arm and take a photo with my right - mostly I just got a sticky shirt and left arm.

20170611_160800-1.jpg

I loosey lasooed her branches tied her to a post. She is leaning the other way than the first picture. A pliable girl.

20170611_161128-1.jpg

Her top cola is about the same size as 10 days ago, no new pistils, Trichomes 100% cloudy, and she's floppy as a rug.

20170611_161151-1.jpg

I chopped, trimmed, washed and hung her to dry. Based mostly on how much space she took to hang, I'll guess a 5 oz yield.

Harvest Report - Lilly

Delicatessen Seeds "Lilly" Is a mostly Sativa mix of about 75% Congo (75% African Congo Sativa x 25% Pakistani Chitral Indica) crossed with La Reunion Sativa.

La Reunion is an ancient trading island (about the size of Oahu) off the coast of Madagascar (Madagascar is off the East Coast of Africa.) La Reunion's largest native land animal is an 18" Rainbow Chameleon. Don't you just love an exotic story for a plant?

I took too strong hits off of Lilly at 9:30 PM. At 10:00PM I was having trouble not yelling like a drunk as I took a walk to look at lightning bugs. At 10:30 PM I was concentrating on the intracacies of playing solitaire on my phone while sitting on the porch listening to the sounds of the wind and the water fountain. The initial feeling is a classic, energetic, very clear Sativa - but then there was a secondary effect of the poor judgement of Alcohol and the stoner permagrin of Indica. The alcoholic stone wore off after about an hour. The energetic sativa was with me until 2 AM - at which point I suddenly fell asleep sitting up and woke up refreshed and still sitting up at 8 AM.

Fresh off the hang dry, she tastes a bit green, smokes very smooth, and smells almost exactly like smarties candies.

The missus is a high tolerance smoker. She said it was a good sativa, destined to be hoarded stash, bt it's to early too tell what kind of smoke she is.

Total dry weight (including 7g oven dried popcorn) was 3.3 oz (94.5 g)

The wife chose all 5 head nugs for her personal stash.
