Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Yeah I'm using a 15 gallon soft pot and it settled down into the pot after a few waterings. At transplant, I filled it up to the very top but it compacted on it's own. So I added some EWC and more soil.

Ok, huge difference between a 5 gallon pot (my grow) and a 15 gallon pot LOL. Do you add anything else with the soil and EWC, guano, bone meal?

Do you water your soil before transplant?

I find pre-soaking the larger pot the day before transplant helps avoid major settling. Then again, I have tubs big enough to soak 7 and 10 gallon pots from the bottom - 15 gallon may be beyond my largest soaking tub size. I have to stock up RO water ahead of time to have enough to soak :)

I knew SLX looked familiar, I even book marked their page it looks like lol. Sometimes my memory likes to fail me a bit... hmmm wonder why.
Hear ya on the seeds, luckily getting seeds isn't an issue here but I know I would feel much differently in your position. The whole waiting and going through customs BS makes me a bit skittish.
Cloning is the next step in my learning adventure, going to be a while though. I've run out of room unless I plan on throwing out all of my clothes which trust me has crossed my mind a few times.
Guess I should learn to weave some hemp and make my own clothes.

The thought has crossed my mind a few times. :laughtwo:

Only thing I added was a few tablespoons of epsoms. Several folks have told me the Blue Dream is a salt lover and to do a preemptive attack so I did. It helped as some of the leaves were tacoing. I was planning on adding bloodmeal too but I was advised against it due to bugs and it messing up the soil for future runs. So with this, my first ever grow, I wanted to try and keep it simple with minimal extra stuff. I also want to use the soil again.

I do not and never even thought about it. Makes complete sense and I should do that. Your right it does settle and compact a bit.

Great tip..thank you!

I've decided to harvest Lilly tomorrow. She is 53 days since the flip. (7 and 1/2 weeks for a 7-8 week strain), trichomes are full cloudy, buds look finished, and she had a GE drench todayso will finish with some sweetness.

It's convenient for the perpetual timing too: Carnival is getting huge so can take Lilly's place under the higher light and CBD Critical Cure is itching to get into the flower room.

i wish I could take her out into the sunlight for photos. Lilly is a very pretty girl sitting in the flower area.

I fully intend to trim off most of those buds - but the mail arrived so I decided to prepare pots and start seeds instead :)

I wouldn't put mykos in while cooking. This is more of a grow kashi moment.

#1 - If your mykos took hold last run, they are still in the soil.

#2 - You want those little fungi to form mycorrhizal relationships with the roots of your cannabis plants. When cooking soil, you don't have any cannabis plants to attach to.

I wait until I am transplanting (clone in soil, and anytime I go to a larger pot.)

I like big buds and I can not lie!

There was a time in my life where I took songs, turned their lyrics into parodies, then sang them in front of an audience as my finale to an hour of poetry reading.

Sir Mixalot's song was one (of only two) where I started to parody, looked at the lyrics and decided - "No, they are perfect as they are "- and sang it anyway :)

Did the people that advised against you adding bloodmeal say how it can mess up the soil? I know bloodmeal is listed as one of the ingredients in my KindSoil 'ingredients'.

Thanks for that link on the soil Rad. I have been playing around with different ideas for soil recipes and this will be a big help. Certainly much easier to use info from others than to try create it all on one's own!

You might need to update your mental image :)

In the midwest I play it more low key, but I wore one of my top hats to breakfast in a diner this winter. Unlike in boston, the hooded 'wizard' cloak stayed in the car :)

Hey there Rad... under the radar no need to attract attention and have Leo follow you home! The wizard cape I'm sure you look stunning in, but doses ... a small treat here and there so everyone gets used to you. Go in full on Wizard and either the crazies will follow you home or the other aforementioned folks with guns. Even tho your wizard pipe & smoke tops lead, just toke'r easy and bring the locals along nice n easy ... :)

Hey your flowers are looking MIGHTY fine there Rad. Some big ass colas... getting close to harvest it looks like. Great lookin buds there buddy! :thumb:

Blaze.. I add the mycos when I up-pot or plant new plants in the soil on the roots. for your soil with the BAS amendments and pretty much what I run, I just cut out the root ball from the last plant same size as my new plant going in add in a few tbs of the nutrient mix and a cup or so of EWC and back into flower.

In fact the next run and each successive run done like that ^^^ the soil keeps getting better because there's a lot of slow release nutrients in the soil that take a bit of time to become available. You will know when the soil is getting tired. For me it's usually 6-8 runs then I put the old soil in a big ass tote and use it as part of my compost inputs for the next soil mix. like that.

In living soil there's no need to keep recycling the soil in and out each run... I'm lazy bro... that's way too much work for me.

HTH...

Delicatessen Lilly - first harvest

Delicatessen Seeds Lilly (53 days) - She looked tired. She looked done.

At 7.5 weeks into a strain with a suggested 7-8 week harvest - It was time for the chop.

20170607_112004-1.jpg

Lilly has lots of trichomes. All of them that I saw were cloudy.

20170607_112033-1.jpg

No new pistils. Buds had stopped swelling.

20170607_112018-1.jpg

Her leaves never got huge - but they were definitely sativa shaped :)

20170607_112251-1.jpg

I tried to do a before and after picture of removing the first fan eaf. It turned out to be a 'during' ...

20170607_112146-1.jpg

and 'after' picture.

20170607_112150-1.jpg

I washed the buds, but then I had to find another set of trimming scissors before I could trim - I lost the green pair.

20170607_151815-1.jpg

I'm quite happy with the size and quality. In addition to this amount hanging, I oven dried 7 grams of closely trimmed popcorn buds.

Carnival moved to the big girls row

16 days ago, Sue said my 18" Carnival would "Blow up for me" (on another thread.) Today she is over 50" tall and still growing (buds not yet set.) I moved Carnival to the back row with Ace Mix(freebie) to share a higher light

Ministry of Cannabis Carnival on the left. Ace Mix on the right. Both about 55" tall.

Barney's Farn / CBDCrew CBD Critical Cure went into flower area today

CBD Critical Cure - 20 inches tall in a 7 gal GeoPot

20170607_142219-1.jpg

The canopy is a bit uneven measuring about 20x25" at the widest Topped once then LST every 2 weeks or so.

20170607_142224-1.jpg

At 75 days old, she really wanted to be in the flower area 15 days ago - but there was no room.

[/QUOTE]

The room is near full at 5 out of 6 - I could fit one more in there if I had another plant ready in veg.

After two de-humidifiers did not work (one that used to work before I moved - another that looked brand new and doesn't work, ) I bought a 3rd dehidifier at auction for $14. It works fine. Iced up the first night, but It was also trying to reduce RH below 40%.

20170607_143407-1.jpg

With better humidity control, I bumped the allowed heat back up to 84 F. I might clean my display soon :)

20170607_143537-1.jpg

The late veg area doesn't have any more ready to graduate into flower for about a month

Early veg has a few good seedlings in the pipeline :)

LEO waves at me as I sit on the front porch.

I left all my finery *except for a few rings* at home when I went to a planning meeting today. My local alderman, the mayor, and a few other officials were there - so I changed clothes and scrubbed real good after hours harvesting and trimming

My alderman doesn't care. He's a berniecrat out of the occupy movement - and I suspect his wife does a bit of spellwork. With 5 suspected or confirmed witches, 2 brewmasters, and 6 confirmed marijuana smokers in the neighborhood - I don't really stand out :)

I harvested one of the big girls - the other, Ace Mix, is just happily growing in the corner with totally clear trichomes.

Congratulation for your Lilly!
:goodjob:

Thanks for the congratulations, I was really looking forward to this one - my first 'designer' strain that I've grown.

Those trimmed up Lilly buds looked lilly good!! How did the oven dried turn out?

I duno yet. I had to go meet the politicians last night and I am the desgnated driver doing stuff today. The young lady reports it's pretty strong. My wife's comment was: "This is oven dried popcorn? It's so smooth." Only been 10 minutes since she smoked and sh'e busy chatting - so nothing like a smoke report yet ;)

Maybe tired and done, but that gal gave it all she had! Those are some awesome buds
