Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Rant on brother!! I've only been to Walmart once for a lantern and a jacknife. It was terrible.

Edit.. it ended with the only thing I've shoplifted in my adult life..free jacknife after 20 mins at the counter.
I used to steal Top tobacco when they kept it on the shelf of CVS.

I think I use 8 ounces of water when I mix my sprays. I only grow 4 plants at a time though.

I am applying the Doc Bud Foliar spray at about 1 oz per flowering plant - less in veg.

When I was doing Neem oil and water for pests, I mixed up 1 qt at a time and my larger sprayers worked fine. They just splatter when the bottle is almost empty and I stop spraying and dumpped the last few ounces out (in the soil.)

Splattering or not spraying the last 2-3 oz is not acceptable when you are only applying 2-3 oz. It's a kind of unusual situation to use such a small amount of spray, especially after mixing 1 part HiBrix to 30 parts water. Doc's Brix foliar appears to be magic :)

I've been to Walmart twice - once in central Florida when the high tempratures were near freezing and I was staying at a campground with poorly heated cabins. Buying blankets was an emergency!

The other time was when I was helping a woman go shopping who had her kids and furniture thrown out on the front lawn. She lived in a town where Walmart had driven over half the stores out of business. There was not a grocery store or hardware store within 40 miles. But that's the Walmart vision of small town America. I can't say I'll never go there again, but if the choice was Walmart or sucking off a man - I'd ask how long I have to suck!

I found a cheap 8 oz atomizer laying on the kitchen counter  What are the odds ?

Ever hear about the time in World War I when the Russians and Germans declared a truce due to wolves?

If not google German Russian truce wolves - It's an interesting sidebar to the history of warfare.

Speaking of Red Riding Hood ... the Big Bad Wolf ... and Fucking ....
The story is best when the story is told about a young woman not a young girl

- - - -

I couldn't find the version I wanted, so I changed a few words in this version (from the French Conte de la Mere Grand)

The Grandmother (or The Path of Pins or Needles.)

There was a woman who had made some bread. She said to her daughter, "Go and carry a hot loaf and a bottle of milk to your grandmother."
So the young woman set forth. Where two paths crossed she met the bzou [werewolf], who said to her, "Where are you going?"

"I am carrying a hot loaf and a bottle of milk to my grandmother."

"Which path are you taking? said the bzou. "The one of needles or the one of pins?"
(Related to mending quickly with pins or mending carefully with needles.- Are you a fast girl or a careful girl?)

"The one of needles," said the girl.

"Good! I am taking the one of pins."

The young woman entertained herself by gathering needles.

The bzou arrived at the grandmother's house and killed her. He put some of her flesh in the pantry and a bottle of her blood on the shelf.

The young woman arrived and knocked at the door. "Push on the door," said the bzou. "It is blocked with a pail of water."

"Good day, grandmother. I have brought you a hot loaf and a bottle of milk."

"Put it in the pantry, my child. Take some of the meat that is there, and the bottle of wine that is on the shelf."

While she was eating, a little cat that was there said, "For shame! The slut is eating her grandmother's flesh and drinking her grandmother's blood."

"Get undressed, my child," said the bzou, and come to bed with me."

"Where should I put my apron?"

"Throw it into the fire. You won't need it anymore."

And for all her clothes -- her bodice, her dress, her petticoat, and her shoes and stockings -- she asked where she should put them, and the wolf replied, "Throw them into the fire, my child. You won't need them anymore."

When she had gone to bed the young woman said, "Oh, grandmother, how hairy you are!"

"The better to keep myself warm, my child."

"Oh, grandmother, what long nails you have!"

"The better to scratch myself with, my child!"

"Oh, grandmother, what big shoulders you have!"

"The better to carry firewood with, my child!"

"Oh, grandmother, what big ears you have!"

"The better to hear with, my child!"

"Oh, grandmother, what a big nose you have!"

"To better take my tobacco with, my child!"

"Oh, grandmother, what a big mouth you have!"

"The better to eat you with, my child!"

(The young woman understood that reference very well and said)

"Oh, grandmother, I have to do it outside!"

"Do it in the bed, my child!"

"Oh no, grandmother, Not just #1, I need to do #2. I really have to do it outside."

"All right, but don't take too long."

The bzou tied a woolen thread to her foot and let her go. As soon as the young woman was outside she tied the end of the thread to a plum tree in the yard.

The bzou grew impatient and said, "Are you doing a load? Are you doing a load?"

Not hearing anyone reply, he jumped out of bed and hurried after the maiden, who had escaped. He followed her, but he arrived at her home just as she went inside.

(I'll leave it to your imagination to decide what wold be added to the story to earn a title including a little red hood.)

Oh I see. I dilute the High Brix because I fried some leaves in veg. I was making it the way you do now at first. Then someone, I can't remember who, told me to dilute it with more water.

I don't dilute mine. I use it exactly the way it is described in the directions.

I think I just got a little overzealous with my sprays at first and they were trying to help me to not mess up on my first go around. I have a smaller sprayer that I used the first time. I still had phenomenal results with the diluted spray, Doc. 29 ounces of the best weed I've ever smoked in my life. This time I plan on doing it your way though. Thanks for the knowledge.

I noticed a root ball size/root health relationship as to how well the plant can take regular strength Brix, etc; Size of pot also..probably due to quantity of roots in relation to quantity of leaves above that can get sprayed.
If the roots aren't there to utilize the foliars, you fry them and end up with essentially lock outs and leaf burn.
:)

Yup! We're feeding soil with foliars.....with the exception of WayAhead. It actually does feed the plant a bit.

If I feed my houseplants the leftover foliar - is that a 'good enough' experiment to see how they respond, or should I give them a bit of GE drench too?

The elderly Schefflera responded very well to a single Brix foliar - I want to extend that treatment to the spider plants,

Ive tried it..especially with the WA10x. I think it may have stalled the blooming in a couple of my small outdoor plants ..made with different nitrates. I didn't get to grow to ripeness those plants. The herb is strong but would be a little better if it had matured to point I like to.

Mixing up a little soil

Today's little entertainment was mixing up a small batch of soil. Since I am doing a perpetual grow, I also need to start perpetually 'cooking' new and recycled soil. Today was new soil. Since the temperatures are low in the basement and garage, too low to wake up the soil life, I decided to cook 1/4 of batch and cook it inside the grow area.

Weighing out 15 lbs of Pro-Mix HP w/Myco.

20170222_114730-1.jpg

10 lbs of Worm Casting

20170222_120435-1.jpg

1/4 of a baggie of Doc Bud's HiBrix Blend Amendment

20170222_121103-1.jpg

Now we get to the fun part :) Dry mixing the soil.

20170222_121751-1.jpg

I fall into a natural meditation when stirring soil and breaking apart the chunks with my fingers.

20170222_122240-1.jpg

After stirring in the RO water, my part of the soil building is complete.

20170222_123357-1.jpg

Snuggled into a warm corner of the flower area, the small microbial and fungal life can now work their underground magic.

20170222_125920-1.jpg

This batch looks like 14 gallons in a 2 gallon tote. It will probably compact down to 12 gallons once it's watered into a pot. With the (fully cooked) 8 gallons in the veg area, this should be enough to fill the next three 7-gal pots. This should bring Ace Mix, Lily and probably Hawaiian Skunk through to harvest.

Bubbha's gift is vegging slowly. She will go into the flower area in 40-50 days after AK47 finishes up.
Ace Mix and Lily will replace Borderliner and Amherst Sour Diesel about 3 weeks later.

My crystal ball doesn't show beyond that :) Hawaiian Skunk, Tangerine Widow and the clones of AK47 and Borderliner will not be too far behind. I decided not to hold rooted clones in the CloneBucket - which means I will have to learn how to train clones to hold them in Veg. I think the pace of the started strains will work pretty well. I'll have to wait a few months to see if I can squeeze in a CBD strain.

Enough musing on the future - I need to go read some grow journals :)

how far off the ground is that? also that brick wall will act like a vertical heat sink..:Namaste:

Thank you. I do appreciate how good these plants look.:thanks:

While this grow is not "perfect" (Heck - I saw a gnat yesterday) the trouble-free high quality is beautiful.
As BrightLight has noticed, this is the best grow I've had since I started 3 years ago.

I'm just barely learning the Hi-Brix Kit and how to use it.

All Hail Good Environmentals !
:cheer:
All Hail Doc Bud's Hi-Brix Kit !
:cheer:

i know i keep havn a gnats issue also as soon as i went organic pest were short to follow lol im actually going rite now to hang up sum yellow fly traps in hopes of catching sum of them lol i also do an ipm of monterey garden spray, with bioag's ful power, and protekt which is silica mostly i believe but yea tht stuff worked amazing on my pest attack i had n overall plant health n vigor and now jus gettn rid of the last few gnats tht kep hanging around. The dam lil buggers lol buggers funny word. But yea lookn gud bro keep up the gud work oh i almost forgot to ask what do u do to get rid of gnats in by ur ladies there?

The tote is sitting on 3/4 of plywood and either a nominal 2x4 or 1.5" of air space. The brick wall is a heat sink, I'll be sure I have an air gap. The box on top is the flower area heater. I believe it is holding a minimum temp of 71F during lights out, it's an unmarked dial on a manual thermostat.

I've had up to 3 ladybugs at a time that were captured elsewhere in the house and brought into the veg area. I hadn't seen a ladybug for 6 days, and I'd seen 3 gnat flybys in the last 4 days. The young lady of the house brought me a ladybug home from school yesterday. Today, I saw it on one of the chamomile plants in the veg area.

If bugs get to be a problem, I mix up a solution of 1 part neem oil, 50 parts water, then whisk in enough liquid soap to emulsify the oil and start foaming (about 2 parts, I don't measure.) I call it my 2% solution. This solution loses effectiveness if not applied within a few hours, so I foliar spray a dripping wet batch immediately before lights out. This has been effective at keeping gnats and spider mites out of sight.

I prefer my lady bugs - they do all the work :)
I feed the lady bugs a small dab of honey on a popsicle stick in the edge of a pot.
My wife is feeding honey to a ladybug in the bathroom. She has had shield bugs (stink bugs) on her popsicle stick, but they don't like the basement and attic as much a they like the living areas of a house.
