Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

those are some beautiful high brix plants you have there Rad. you have to appreciate the shine on the leaves and the bright green colors in a high brix grow. Love it!

Thank you. I do appreciate how good these plants look.:thankyou:

While this grow is not "perfect" (Heck - I saw a gnat yesterday) the trouble-free high quality is beautiful.
As BrightLight has noticed, this is the best grow I've had since I started 3 years ago.

I'm just barely learning the Hi-Brix Kit and how to use it.

Rado, I'm pleased to see your garden of green. The Ak looks great! How does she smell like, diesel? Just curious.

You surely do your best (but not better!) I can see that. That's gonna bring you great success! Lovely, have fun man! :bravo:  :Namaste:

I'm just the worst cloner ever... but often see good results none the less.
I don't even cover them or anything... tho my local humidity is usually plenty high enough for clones.
I cut 'em. Dip 'em in some clonex powder. Stick 'em in perlite watered with no nutes. When I see new growth, I might touch them with a bit of liquid nutes. Then it's on to their permanent home for them.
So damn lazy... but I'm probably in the 95%+ zone.

Outside garden update:

I install the chandelier in the master bedroom, moved the 18 'candle' monastery light from the kitchen to the dining room, moved the master bedroom ceiling fixture to the kitchen (with new 100W equivalent daylight LED bulbs,) moved the kichen 3-way dimmer switch to the dining room(LEDs didn't like the dimmer,) and installed a standard 3-way switch in the kitchen.

Per my reply to bobrown, this meant I could reward myself with a little garden planning. :)

I selected 7 vines (3 perennial) for the back yard trellis spaces, and 2 vines for the sunny and shady ends of the front porch. The front porch choices are subject to my wife's design approval, but who doesn't want (annual) Morning Glory and Black Eyed Susan vines as the first placeholder vines :)

Only the Loofah, hierloom Wisteria, and Moonflower seeds need to be started indoors - so that will fit in the veg area.

I then came up with tentative herb and vegetable choices for the raised metal structures in the back yard, and flowers for urns and hanging baskets in the front. The front flower choices are subject to my wife's approval.

None of these choices will involve much veg area space since they will be either direct seeded outdoors, garden center purchases, or seed started right before transplant outdoors. So again I'm happy.

It's not a complete garden plan - but it is a complete 2nd layer of planning. In indoor terms, I have the furniture planned but will have to wait until the furniture and throw rugs are in place to start thinking of decorating the walls, and horizontal surfaces :)

Ace Mix has a drinking problem

Ace mix is in a roughly half gallon plastic pot. When I put her dry pot in a water bucket filled deeper than her pot height, she absorbs a cup or two of water, then stops drinking. I have let her pot sit in water for 20 minutes and it does not sink lower than halfway in the water. The soil is still dry when I scratch below the surface. I ended up submerging her to let water spill over the top of the pot to wet the soil.

If water doesn't fully absorb in, does it fully drain out?

Is the soil overly compacted?

Is this a problem?

Flairosol - internal weeping

My $8 Flairosol sprayer that I use for foliar spraying failed after 11 uses - less than 500ml pumped through it !
After I pulled the trigger, it was not spraying and dribbling water for several seconds. It seemed clogged.
I tried blowing air backwards, then forwards through the tubing.
After messing with it for a while, something failed and now it mists a spray down into the bottle for 2-3 seconds after pumping.

I liked the 2-3 second spray action after a single pump. My backup spray bottle has a loosely swiveling head and standard 'spray only while pumping' action. It sucks in comparison.

I liked the performance while it worked but was surprised by it's early failure.

How long do you expect a spray bottle to last? Should I buy 1 or more Flairosol and try again?

it sounds like a bad bottle, is it worth buying again? Maybe look for something else is a better idea?

Might have been a bad bottle - might have been it couldn't handle dirt or dust.

I dipped my measuring glass into the RO water bucket sitting out. It's likely something fell into the water or measuring glass. In the future, I'll use RO water direct from the tap.

Hey Rado! Nice to hear few non-canna related plants are make appearance. As for the bottle, there is a saying in the country I live: We are not that rich to buy cheap things. Go for some decent sprayer, those things should last a lifetime with RO water. Cheers and good luck! :Namaste:

I've had that problem before......

let it sit in a Growth Energy drench for about a half hour. Water to the level of the soil. Pour from the top while it's submerged.

The Calcium in the drench will do something with the soil and reverse some bonds that didn't go right with the minerals. Everything will return to normal and may never happen again.

Thanks for the explanation Doc! I've seen that effect show up in dry pockets when I harvest. I hadn't considered the calcium angle - like surface tension in the soil. :hmmm:

Another good reason to thoroughly flood and soak the rootball at least once.

Oh and Rad, the f'n flairosols are fantastic but they don't last. I think everyone has to toss and replace theirs pretty frequently. The nozzle is just SO small and there's no easy way to clean it.

Hey Rad.. I use the pump sprayer with the blue writing, it works great and has for awhile.im pretty sure it was like 20 bux.

I haven't been all the way through but I love the hi brix! I've been tossing it around for a while but just love my coco too much.

I'm glad to see you're still around after the move. Your place looks awsome!

I have had one for about three months now. I really like it as well, but I'm surprised it lasted this long. It feels flimsy. I wish I could find one of those pump sprayers that holds a tiny amount. I mix up 90ml at a time and would do 60ml if I could.

My Solo quart sprayer with the extended wand worked for 3 years and still does as far as I know. :slide: The only drawback is that I only need half that much at most, so I have to pump it way the heck up to get good compression. It does a nice fine mist, too.

Ideally, I like to find a quality garden one with a brass nozzle and a 16 oz reservoir.

I use a Mondi mist and spray deluxe. works great and easy to keep clean. think I paid 15 bucks on the zon.

The smallest Mondi Mist I could find is 1.2L I have a real nice 2 gallon metal sprayer and a decent 1.5 liter hardware store sprayer but they are too big. The last batch I mixed up was about 3 fluid ounces.

Hey Rad! I have a fancy pump spray bottle but I've only been using my $1 store cheap-o, it works better. When I used the fancy one, I would pump some regular water through it after any foliars.

:passitleft:

I pumped water through after each use. But yeah, good care is important.

Nice to have you around :welcome:

That one you pictured is too large for the small amounts I spray.

I did 30ml, 60ml, and 90ml (1-3 oz) with the Flairosol. The inner quatrefoil sided bottle holds the intake tube in a limited zone so it's pretty easy to do a very small amount.

Next batch I'm planning to do 120ml. My plants only need about 70ml but I sprayed the 30 year old Schefflera the last 2 batches and it's never looked better. I read up and spider plants absorb foliars well, so I'm adding the 3 spider plants to the spray schedule.

We have a box full of atomizers somewhere - I need to do some searching in the attic :)

So would I. If you ever find one, let us know.
