Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

Rado, have you checked your pm's lately?
I have not checked PMs except the water.

When I transplanted the seedlings, and later a couple in the yellow cat litter buckets,
there has been NO ROOT GROWTH since the last re-potting.

I feel comfortable down -sizing the seedlings as none have a root mass the size of my thumb.

I kept the same size on the kitty litter plants. The root mass was roughly the bottom half of a 1/2 gallon milk cartoon.
This was the size they were when they came out of the half gallon buckets months ago.

I'm hoping for some root growth. Having measurably larger plants in january would be nice :)

I love this journal :bong:

those pesky gnats grrr... first and foremost SUBBED :)......
ive managed to eradicate them with neem but dont like my plants receiving that yucky crap
i once tried placing all my clipping and dead leaves in a tub filled with soil and topped with the clipping etc in the far corner of my grow room and attract them over to that and once they where thriving there they left my plants alone it seemed and i then removed the tub and disposed of the invaders...
now if they show up in my grows they have a small army of drosera plants to contend with "mwa ha ha ha ha"!
you need gas exchange to happen around soil level and bottom of pots to occur so prob not best to leave the totally covered for to long
just my opinion buddy ;)

I realize this is a way-back reference, but I just got into the journal and was reading this when my husband, a lover and grower of carnivorous plants, said "I was thinking that myself". LOL!

Back to reading so I can catch up.

Hey Rado, I've been learning about chitinases and chitin, and the benefits of using neem cake/meal, kelp meal, and crustacean meal combined in equal parts in living organic soil and it made me think of you and your gnat issues. I just started using them and am quickly moving to CO's advocated LOS growing style.

Just saying, in the future, you can completely break the gnat cycle/ward off any other soil pests just by incorporating these ingredients in your soil mix or top dressing with them, I mean FINITO, DONE. No Gnats Period. ;) and not only that, but these ingredients introduce chitinases to your soil and plant, activating their systemic resistance capabilities in a very powerful way and increasing the terpenes/terpenoids in the end produce whether its buds or veggies... not even to mention that they're outstanding organic fertilizers too. Just wanted to speak up for the record

I've been using insect frass in mix. Has chitin. Didn't know kelp meal has it? I use km too...in mix & in teas. Probably I'm not using enough, because I still get gnats. Good info...thanks.

Scrawny and off-color, these clones are FINALLY starting to add leaves and grow again.

Yay!! Congrats Rado, hopefully its a baby girl! And I've honestly never had a strain with "Hawaiian" in the name that wasn't awesome. Can't wait to see that grow in some healthy organic soil :)

And hahah I just saw a gnat in my veg room, so ok... I was a bit gung-ho the other day, I apologize. But the fact remains, I had dozens of gnats in the air at all times towards the peak of my gnat issues recently, then I top dressed with neem, kelp, crustacean meals at equal parts (and some oyster shell flour actually, just for the calcium and minerals) and 2 days later I honestly couldn't find any. It really brought them under control right when they were getting out of control, I may have caught them just in time before my journal turned into the last 26 pages of this one, no offense. I really do see it as a game-changer to have these amendments, just, yeah it doesn't have the 'nuclear' effect I insinuated at first. :Namaste:

I had a few gnats left. I moved some spiders in about a month ago. Gnat sightings are now less than one a day.

Spiders are our friends. Mine has always been a spider friendly home.

May the new year bring you gardening success Radogast. It's been a challenging one, no?

Dude, so awesome those scraggly little things are coming back. Very nice work sir! :bravo:

The new ones are gonna do much better I can feel it. Still, I'm more excited about the girls that are pulling through. Talk about excitement.

Hiya Radogast! Have gotten caught up and am grateful for your new germ as well as the new growth coming on your other plants. I've added your name in my personal thesaurus and dictionary to the words perserverance and determination. Well done Rado - wishing all things good and kind to you and your garden. Best to you sir!

:goodjob: :high-five:

There is a fine line between persistence and lazy momentum, determination and confusion. .
When I hold Occam's razor, I slice the words a little different :)

Best of colors to you, sir!

Worms arrived today.

My wife says the mail lady drove up the drive from the mailbox
and was VERY curious about the box with no air holes labelled "Live Animals"
Hah! The mail lady is always stroned. She loves the 6ft Mad Hatter cutout we sometime position staring out a window :)

Worms in the bag

I had about 3" of damp coir waiting, made a hole in the center, dumped in worms,
Covered with potting soil and a cup of water, replaced leaves.
Below is a screen and drain, above is just a tray of dry leaves and the cover. For now.

First feeding: 1 organic banana peel, diced. 1 k-cup of coffee grounds and the k-cup filter.
I placed them in the corner of the bin so the worms will have to squirm to find them.

I didn't get to spend much time with the little wiggly things. The mailbox was torn off it's post
so I had to do emergency repairs in the dark and snow. I used metal rafter ties and sheet metal screws.
It should hold together until spring, or the next time it gets hit by a truck.

My plan for the evening had been to heat some metal in the fireplace and solder my electric bass.
Oh well. There's always tomorrow :)

I forgot to mention the wife came down to the basement garden room and admired the worms in their worm home.
She's a great wife!
She also thought it was hilarious to tell the mail lady, "Those are my husband's worms. He'll be so happy!"

Awesome! Same place I got mine hahaha - very resilient! They survived a CO freeze somehow. And you're starting yours out much better than mine hahah. :) Congrats on your wiggly friends! :yahoo:

mad hatter cut out  as always, you rock Rado!
