Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

i did the exact same thing, vented into toking room "aka living room" haha

i got a carbon filter and now i cant smell my plants unless i rub them, disturb them, pinch them, or when the lights go out for some reason the smell is always the strongest.

I&i

Mine smell when lights out too - me thinks thats the sign of them making some more THC for me!!!

I've pretty much decided in the Can-filter 75.
It contains 60lbs of charcoal delivered for $208

huh, i never even thought to check how much charcoal mine has.. i know it doesnt way no 60lbs though haha. this going to be sitting on your floor? or screwed to a 2x4 frame?

i love when the lights go out, its almost like a instant strong smell. i would hate to have to pick between smoking or growing. they both smell and taste so great!

On to the pesticide !

My first grow was 99% organic.

These gnats scoff at my diotomaceous earth.
They crawl on it.
They multiply.
Verily though my sticky potions have conquered hordes of flying beasts,
they doth mock my crushed sea shells of antiquity.
An alchemist from the land of Lowe's hast sold at small price a six fold packet of crushed poison to float in mosquito breeding lakes.
In consultation with the king, he revealed the magic of converting this poison into a tincture for the eradication of under ground gnats.
Though I have not perceived these underground gnats, I must trust the wisdom of earlier times and proceed apace.

The tincture has strengthened in the bowels of my dungeon under the influence of the moon and planets.
May the goods of antiquity and the purveyors of "science" bless me and devour this scourge upon the plants of Lady Mary Jane.

Hey Radogast if your getting fungus gnats or just gnats in general you are watering to much, just let the soil dry out and your gnat problem will dry up also.

Edit: Yeah for sure I believe you are overwatering after going back some pages it appears your soil is always moist also the plastic over the pots is a really bad idea unless your starting clones and using plastic as a humidity dome. If your unsure of when to water buy a cheap soil moisture tester, believe I paid less than 20 us dollars for mine and test your soil with that and then if your inclined test the weight of the pots by lifting them and testing their weight in regards to the moisture meter so you can better determine when to water.

This is how I taught myself to recognize when i need to water as well as keeping a running record of approximately how many days in between most sized pots will need watering. For example my two gallon cloth pots usually need watering about every 3-4 days so I check them every 2 days by lifting them, if they are heavy then no water, if they are light I will water the following day and if they are airy light I water them the same day because they usually show signs of needing water by then.

Best of luck Radogast

Plastic over the pots was only a 2-3 day thing. It's been many weeks since I did that.

Watering has been a challenge, mostly in me thinking it had been five days since watering when only two days.
Filling humidifiers daily is confusing my already somewhat bizarre memory.

I added a lot of perlite to the mix this time, so the pots always feel light and the soil always feels dry.
I'm going to put up a chalkboard or similar to record the last watering day.

Every time I think I have killed my soil and plants, they aren't quite dead .

I'll put my two cents worth in. I keep two written journals one for growing and general info and a drying journal. I find myself going back through my grow Journal to check out all sorts of things. Frequency of feeding and water, size of Fabric pots I've made, Idea's for DIY projects and finding a patterns that seem to be making the cabinet a better grow environment.

Amen SBG - that's awesome. My philosophy - although I have to admit I say this somewhat hypocritically because I botched this grow after not having grown for 5 years - is there are two ways to take notes: 1) noting by writing it down (and/or type it); and 2) mentally noting that I just made the exact same mistake as previous lol.

Gosh after your last journal I never expected this to become such a struggle. >.< sorry... freaking pests. Come on Rado, get it together, you're the freaking wizard of nature, sent by Yavannah! Your grow can't look like this!

Idk what else to say haha, so I'm here watching and hoping for a better update soon! :Namaste:

Water LESS OFTEN. Water less. This is my mantra.

I will trust my little moisture sensing stick, add in mild fertilizers and watch them grow.

Trimmed up today and none of them look as good as they have in the past, but they are not dead yet.
Unless they actually start dying, I will trust the moisture meter !

New seeds to be added late this month using the same soil as my first grow; beautiful, living composted earth from the hydro store.

"Where I touch that flower, I am touching infinity. It existed long before there were human beings on this earth and will continue to exist for millions of years to come. Through the flower, I talk to the infinite, which is only a silent force. This is not a physical contact. It is not the earthquake, wind or fire. It is the invisible world. It is that small voice that calls up the fairies." - George Washington Carver

Photo update.

Temp and humidity. Outdoor is the flowering room (HPS). Indoor is the garden room (CFL).

yikes! barely holding on there Rado.. But luckily for you, they're just weeds  pretty hard to actually kill them.. and at long as they're not dead, they will eventually turn around..

its like poker, all you need is a chip and a chair.

They'll pull through soon (I hope.. we have all been saying that for a long time now!)

Hey, hows the aquaponics idea coming about?

Hi Rado, thanks for the nice update. If I may share my observations, based upon the stunting and necrotic characteristics of your plants across the majority of the garden, I am seeing what appears to be a pH imbalance in your soils (likely too acidic). The telltale sign of this for me at least is the simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus deficiencies with bright yellowing and brown paper bag crisping on the leaves respectively. Another characteristic of the potential pH and possibly salt problem that I'm seeing is the extreme staining/browing and crusting of your perlite that was clean bright white when you mixed it anew and transplanted. Do you have a pH/TDS/EC meter? I have a handheld wand and I can measure both soil (by making a 1:1 paste) and water. It was the best investment to my growing and gardening that I ever made. I hope you get this sorted and that your garden is soon green and bursting with bushes. Best and cheers sir.

Hey, hows the aquaponics idea coming about?

Aquaponics idea was me looking for a way out of the cycle of buying bags of compost and bottles of fertilizers. A way towards sustainable agriculture. The system was not complete. A soil food web needs soil (not just rocks) and it seemed like vermiculture (worms) were needed in addition to purchased fish food.

Just tonight I see a way where the worms totally replace the fish... vermiculture based ACT (aerated compost tea.)
I had been avoiding teas because I wanted to BREAK the external supply of bottled fertilizer, not replace with another form.

After reading Microbe Organics, I am now planning to brew my own with a worm farm as primary input.

Nope. No ph/tds/ec meter. I use aquarium test strips for water ph.

Between the floating mosquito pellets, the diotamaceous earth, the BT and the bug spray, I figure I have come close to killing the soil food web. I stirred in some mycorhizzae ok the top of the soil to try to help out back. The discoloration, however, is probably from the SAFER bug spray as you see that in the AK47 photo which I believe only had the bug spray.

Beginning this month, all new plants will be in the local hydro store's composted soil.
I planted some Blessed Thistle in this soil last week. It's nice stuff.
I'll be be watching the newest seeds to see how they thrive in comparison to the old.

Well, at least its an update lol. Still pullin' for you and those plants Rado! Glad you're going to go microbeman on them soon lol. I agree that soil must be all out of whack. 7 month old clones lol, wow. At least they're fighters. :Namaste:

I worked from home today.

I had the pleasure of watching the birds from a new location of the shepherd's hook, 2 feet from the sliding glass doors between breakfast table and the deck.

At a couple of points today there were 6 Bluebirds and a yellow finch. Yesterday there was a cardinal.

I am grateful just to see the land in daylight !

I visited the old oak tree in search of a staff, and returned with a dried staff with Cernunnos antlers and a piece of old exhaust duct (garbage). I left a wine cork and a pretty stone.

I got a package in the mail with 4 herb gardening books. (Who needs Christmas?)

And I talked to the wife about tea brewing. (How much noise does it make? For how many hours?)
She gets right to the point, but supportive. (This is for growing herbs, right?. This replaces the fish. ok. )
"As long as you are having fun and we don't have to give up a pleasant toking lounge."

They are supportive of anything that grows good medicine.
The weather channel can be turned on louder :)
