Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

LOL, Rado, you rock. :circle-of-love:

Enough said.

Repotting Day.

I've had teenagers who don't know we grow infesting the house for 4 days. I finally mentioned that I was going for a walk in the woods and disappeared down into the basement when no teens were looking. WASTED EFFORT. LOL. I immediately started moving things around in my veg room, including some large and loud wind chimes. By the time I reappeared from potting, it was dark and teens were gone home, so I didn't have to explain :)

Beginning with about 10 gallons of soil, I added 3 gallons of perlite and mixed them up. I didn't add anything else because the Dr. Earth soil has a lot of stuff, including bat guano. When I added guano last mix, it seemed like the soil was too hot.

Five empty kitty litter containers and five scraggly clones. I repotted deeper in the soil to shorten the girls.

Roots look ok for transplant.

I tried the first plant on a rack in the right front of the 8x8 veg room. Watering was going to be messy and the clones and seedlings would not all be able to fit.

The 8x8 veg room feels A LOT larger than the 4x8 flower room. I was able to work the soil on the left of the room, move a track around and water plants in comfort. I was also able to just sit on a chair in the corner and look and think. Once I get power outlets, this room will rock.

I settled on a tray on the floor in the back right of the room.
5 White Widow and Carmelicious clones (newly repotted.)
4 free indexed seeds (newly repotted.)
1 each feminized Borderline xtrm, Northern Lights xtrm, and AK47 xtrm.

Hiya Radogast! Wow, I really dig your journal brother! What a journey hoss - you have my absolute respect for your tenacity and determination. I think you nailed it today with transplanting in newly mix fresh soil! That soil looks good and I'm betting your girls are all talking about how they adore and appreciate you right now for giving them their new homes! I see 12 plants that are going to make a game change and reward you for your efforts. I did not like the looks of that last soil they were in. From my perspective major plant issues resemble pH imbalance and both phosphorus and potassium deficiencies - but that new soil is a sight for sore eyes brother. I love your writing style. I read your whole journal and even reread many entries - just cuz. Great job on the dedicated room too! I'm pullin' for ya hoss!

:blunt:

Its tough trying to hide from kids. Mine are older, in their 20s and they knew I grew over the summer but I still try to keep it hidden. The less anyone knows the better. Your grow area looks great, nice & clean. Is that an exhaust fan in the window?

Yikes on the electric spike - thats gotta hurt - Im wondering how this new raise in rates is going to do to all of us on the East Coast this year

No exhaust fan, that's just junk I shoved in the window so a person outside couldn't see anything :)

My plan with the window is to simulate a cold cellar, where one tube for cold air intake runs down to the floor and a second, short tube near the ceiling is exhaust. I will probably need to add a low volume fan, something like a PC fan to pump out the hot air near the ceiling :)

After I water the girls in the flowering room (still in veg), I will start on the electrical outlets for the garden room (veg room.)
I have a really long daily commute, so my creative time and energy at home are rather limited.
PLUS the water heater started leaking last night.
If I can't fix it myself, I'll have to bring a plumber down next to my grow rooms. Ugh.

I did the same thing to the window in my room. Stuck a big fluffly pillow in there with a black table clothe behind it.

I hope the leak ends up not a big deal. Youd have to use some major air fresheners

Do you use some kind of filter for the odor? Ive seen and heard of others setting these things up but I have no clue where I would even start or where I would vent it out. I have that one window thats like yours but it faces my neighbors house and its right out in the open.

When it comes down to it, this is a state legal medical grow, but I still don't want to advertise.
The girls aren't floral right now, so smell is not an issue.

My flowering room vents in a location under my porch.
It definitely smells dank during late flower, but the stoner teenagers all think its just residue from spilled bong water :)

The hydro store down the street sells those huge carbon filters which could clamp right onto the existing 6" ducting. The flowering room has negative pressure when the fan is running, which seems to manage the smell, but as soon as the fan stops, the smell leaks out into the basement, so for odor control the vent fan would have to be always on. Again, since it is a state legal grow, I don't bother.

whats up rado? Im a little late over here but better late than never right? I had a similar issue with my first clones I did outdoors this year. only 1 out of 3 rooted and it grew very slow for alooong time but then finally hit a growth spurt. It would have been a nice plant but since it was outside I couldnt keep it in veg. Oh and as far as your electric goes just be happy you have nat grid. When I moved last year I was forced to get western electric and my bill went from about 100$ a month with nat grid to anywhere from 300-500$ I finally got them to give me a flat rate which is still about 380$ man I miss nat grid lol. Keep up the good work though I am now strapped in for the ride, I hope it stays smooth and steady and not bumpy! Good day sir

Good day back at you mr marley!
I think National Grid behaves different based on who the power company was they are replacing.

I wasn't thinking so much of cost when I posted this, 9.5 oz of canabis and dozens of outdoor seedlings were worth it.
I was actually thinking about how easy it is to spot a new grow op based on an electrical bill.

P.s. the girls look "happier" tonight. And my water heater is no longer leaking :)

very good point. although it can depend. half of my house is heated by electric which is crazy exspensive so last year before I got my flat rate my electric shot up crazy high but it had nothing to do with growing so hopefully we still have ways to cover up grows with other reasons such as heat. atleast we are lucky enough to live in a good state but for others that could have an issue with this I hope we have both given some insight on the topic. very happy to hear the water heater is fixed it would have been a huge pain to hide everything from a plumber keep up the good work, Im sending positive vibes to all your little green friends!

Marley,
You must have the electric baseboard heat. Lots of rentals in my area have that, it costs as much to heat a house with those as a BIG grow would cost in electric. That form of heating a house should be illegal!

Hey Rado,

While it may be alright that you are a state legal grow, there may be some undesirables that get a whiff of what you have going on. Unless you live far enough away from the beaten path that no one would get that whiff of dank from under your porch.

And as much as your family loves cannabis, i'm sure you don't want your house to smell like a grow room all the time, right? Carbon filters are awesome, relatively inexpensive and are a good thing to have to keep your mind at ease. Like if you needed to bring that plumber into the basement to fix the water heater, during late flower for example

I'm with ya brother - just had the police stop over for something and invited them in and I'm in day 30 of flower. Attic grows are awesome for that - summertime when it's hot I run the ac and scrubbers and its all good! I kinda wanted to see if they noticed really, I know tempting fate but the police are not the folks I worry about and my weed, I'm more worried about those un-savory types. Why I keep the doors locked and grow room stealth about to happen.

My carbon filters are really really good.

Ive had my landlord AND police in my apartment during the middle of flowering and not the slightest smells escapes my tents.

I'm actually a bit off the beaten path :)
I'm 150 yards back from the street with 18 acres of trees and streams behind me.
My yard has a moat with a bridge and a pile of logs beside the bridge on one side and a woven fence on the other side like they would use fir a shootout scene in Hatfield and MacCoys or a western.
There is one neighbor just across the bridge who shares my drive and a neighbor beside the drive do everyone things the drive is a driveway for the back of the little house.
At the end of the drive is the armory fir the local militia, so no one hangs arounds without a good reason :)

That said, I am 25 minutes from the hydro shop and they adjusted have at least two sizes of carbon filter in stock
