Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

You can top her no problem.
It has slowed down this week after a root prune and transplant and looks like it is about to take off again. Great plant so far
Yours is better!
It is difficult to remember though. how about Balkamania....OG!

Hey everyone! Its been another crappy week but I will drop some updates later today. All the plants are happy and there are only a few minor problems to report on for a change.

Hope everyone is doing well and catch you soon.

Flowering day 60.

Little late but here it goes. We're getting close to the end for this round of plants. They have been an easy going bunch and have needed minimal care and attention which is great as I have been neglecting them slightly. All of the plants are drinking much slower indicating that they are coming to the end. There is still probably ten days left and I will try and get them all down at the same time so I can squeeze in one more grow before the year is out. Next will be the X18's and a couple more unknown Afghan landraces.
All of the plants are looking good and even the Tashkurghan is filling out though her flowers aren't the densest of the bunch. It is still shooting out fresh pistils but as she likes to produce the odd banana I will be chopping her with the rest whether she's done or not. The other two Afghans are looking very good and have tight and frosty flowers. I'm really looking forward to trying those out after they are dry. They have done better than I expected they would but the Afghan #2 has a case of aphids which I'm battling right now.
The rest are all good with the Pineapple Express well on hér way to finishing up. You can see the Big Bud genetics in her flowers shining through now. The Chocolatina has an almost white appearance to her and still has the best smell. It is not the largest or frostiest, neither is it the prettiest but I expect that it will probably end up being my favourite. The final two which are the Blue Cindy and the Sativa Dream are both solid hybrids with lots of bulging flowers that are generously coated in frost. Both smell good so it should be a good finish.
Pic time!

We got lucky this time and had no plants get out of control. The canopy has been evenly lit throughout the grow....

Looking super lush in there, Prof! And such a great line-up.

Can't wait for the smoke reports.

Thanks sye! It was a thrown together at the last minute line-up lol. We have a bit of variety which is always good.

Malana update coming up
:passitleft:

I think I was lucky with these. They grew something like 2 feet in a week which was scary lol. Now they seem to be slowing down which is good because I can only raise the light a little bit more. Their growth was straight up with little in the way of side branching and they have already begun to show flowers. One looks like it has male flowers in with the female parts but on closer inspection I don't think it is. That would be annoying.
They don't look as bad as they did last week so I think I made the right decision to leave them to sort themselves out. They are a nice green and look to be quite happy.
One thing which did happen was the taller one fell sideways and now needs staking, something I haven't had to do in a while. So we have some bamboo to get them up and supported which I will set up today.
They seem pretty fast and look like they could qualify for an earlier than predicted finish but that remains to be seen. so far only a couple minor issues, just gotta keep an eye on those funny looking flowers.
Here they are today....

The flowering cupboard is doing well also. Loving these two at the moment. The Crumbled Lime x unknown is flowering and has nice long (miniaturised) colas which have hardly any side growth.
The Chocolatina x Guicy Banger is my favourite at the moment as it just looks great. It still hasn't revealed its gender which is something the Chocolatina over in the other tent did. It started out quite behind but has since caught up. This one has a low profile which makes coverage easy. She has a look about her which is just generally appealing to me. I say she but we will see....
DSC04698.JPG

They will be getting tied down hopefully today....
DSC04699.JPG

Then there are the two little males being sent on a pollen collecting mission. The Balkh will be getting crossed with the Malana's and the Miami Heat will be crossed with the two plants in this cupboard....
DSC04700.JPG

Finally we have a little peak in the veg box. Everything in here became root bound and has been transplanted into fresh potting mix. I have purchased another bag and used it for these plants as I would like to get a handle on the pests in the grow room. It has been like the Amazon rain forest in here in recent weeks with all the bugs. I'm going to have a super clean up at the end of the year lol.
Not much going on in here. Can you guess which one is the Highland Laos?....

Looking super in here, the Landrace are looking sweet. Hope they turn out top shelf for you.
Thanks Penny. I have been excited about those since I got them. I'm interested in finding out what the effects from traditional cannabis is like compared to high THC hybrids.

Some amazing stuff blooming here Prof. :passitleft: PE especially looks amazing to me. I'll sure revisit the pineapple fields soon.Traditional cannabis can sometimes turn out shit but I've grown and smoke some mindblowing Afghani and Pakistani bagseeds in the past. Good ones were always from the indica dominant ones and most sativa landraces from middle east never hit the mark for me...

Thanks TC. This PE is turning out much nicer than the last one did. It won't have a lot of fluff to trim, that's for sure. It is a contender for something for the in-laws in the future as they are always moaning about the lower yielding strains lol.

Won't be long until I find out what the landraces are like for myself. I'm hoping for relaxing effects from them.
Supercrop maybe? Imagine how much light headroom you would have if the plant was only half that height!
That is probably the sensible thing to do. They kind of did it naturally to them selves anyway. I checked today and they are still creeping up. They look to be around 4ft but I haven't actually measured them yet. Super-cropping would allow me to get lower buds closer to the tops which I think would be a good idea with these.
The Miami Heat got crossed by the LA Lakers tonight :cheesygrinsmiley:. Go Lakers!
I've never been one for baseball!
Wait what?
Yep.
Fresh? Purchased? Sorry I'm in the wrong thread...
I think you've missed some of the things we've been pulling out of the grow room in recent months. There was a shrew, a frog and a grasshopper all in the same week. I thought that it was the beginning of the apocalypse! There has also been slugs and mites, flies and caterpillars. It has been a menagerie of mayhem and a fine example of why you don't bring soil in from outdoors lol

Hey 420! Back with the final update before I pull these plants on the weekend. Today is flowering day 70 and all could be taken now. Everyone has some ambers showing and all are all are showing signs of running out of juice. The tent has a very autumnal feel to it now so I'm preparing for the chop.
We have had a bad development though. The unknown Afghan #2 appears to have self seeded itself. I can't tell how bad it is yet but I can see some seeds beginning to pop out of the top flowers. I pulled one out to confirm my suspicion and it was half developed and still soft. I checked a lower flower on her and couldn't find any at all so maybe it is still salvageable. Still, that's another mother gone with 2 out of 3 of the landrace indica's having hermaphroditic traits.
Other than that everything is good in here. The Blue Cindy has just thrown out a banana but that is because it is day 70 and she wants to come down. Not long now my pretties....

Here is where I pulled the seed from on the Afghan #2. I'm hoping they are only on the tops but if not then she will make some nice hash as she is very frosty....

Here is her other problem. Aphids!. They are deep inside the plant and difficult to get to. I'm spraying her with alcohol but it isn't working very well. Good thing she is coming down in a couple of days....

More updates! Next we have a sad story from the cupboard....
DSC04802.JPG

You may notice that there is less plant in there. In fact, an entire plant has been removed! The Chocolatina x Guicy Banger turned out to be a male. It held out right up until third week of flower before revealing itself. Nevermind. We do have a bit of a blow to the xmas stash now though. Lets hope the Malana's can make up for it. Here he is, proudly vacating the area....

The Crumbled Lime x unknown is growing nicely and is definitely female....

The Male's are both getting ready to drop by the looks of it so I have removed them from the cupboard to isolate them from the rest. I have had a change of heart about using the pollen from the Balkh landrace and will hold fire for the moment. My concern is that I will put a lot of time and energy into crossing with the Malana's only to find that I have used a hermie. I am aware that this is a concern when using any males but the chances of having it happen with the afghan landraces is apparently higher. I will still be using the Miami Heat pollen on the CL x unknown though and will also try to preserve some for use on some plants in the future if it is any good. Here they are today....

I could eat the whole lot for breakfast aphids and all. Everything looks delicious, Prof!

Too bad about the Christmas coffers. I wonder about that though.

Isn’t the idea of going back to the genetic headwaters with the landraces partly for their purity of tone? (Musical metaphor). I’m thinking the over abundance of nadgers in your tents may be an epigenetic drift, not hardwired in the alleles. That your pollen may be of the highest order after all and that something else is bringing the boy bits on.

I don’t claim to be anything other than a donkey in these matters. Idle thoughts.

Beautiful garden :green_heart:

Thanks DD!

As much as I would like to eat the aphids (poetic justice and all) I think I'm just going to bud wash them away.

I'm not so much of a donkey but more of a tourist riding one through these murky waters. It is to my understanding that it can take some time and a good bit of searching to find a good Kush whereas "everyone's a winner baby!" (Musical metaphor?) when searching for good tropical landraces. It is probably more complicated than that but I think I would be incredibly lucky to get something worthy on my first attempt.
Stress causing the nanners is certainly not out of the question though.

Hope you are well buddy
