Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

Late to the party, just caught up!

What scrumptious buds

I've followed your example of re-potting the remains of my harvested plant (which was a sad stunted thing). It didn't have a root system like your plants so I didn't have to do major root pruning. But it looks to be in a similar position to yours, doing that weird reveg thing... It's not in the best shape but maybe she will get a second life that will be much better than her first!

I'll be looking into a pollen shaker then. I like convenience though this bubble was definitely worth the mess and clean up.
Again, chillums are something I dabbled back n the day. My friend had one and we all used to meet up and go around his place because he had lenient parents. We used to get stuck to the sofa and dread having to walk back home in the cold night after a toasty session on the chillum lol.

I've got my hash in with the bovida now. It dried better than the last round made with the trim from the same plants. The first round was all the rougher trim and this was better stuff with a lot more sugars. It is much easier to handle than the attempt I previously described. This stuff is sticky but you can roll it with your fingers and if you put it on the table it doesn't begin to melt. I'm super happy lol.

The tea has just had a new ingredient added. I was sat drinking coffee whilst supervising the kids when a horse walked past my house and took a massive shit. Mrs F was horrified and not at the turd lying at the bottom of the drive. No. She was horrified because when I saw it she saw the look on my face. Naturally I went and got a bucket and a shovel, cleaned it off the road and dumped it into a giant tub of festering liquid which is sat just outside our bedroom patio door. Now the anaerobic soup has been super-charged with life and has acquired and extra depth to its sexy scent. It is still no way near as bad as the original bucket though. I'm actually worried about using it because it's so gross and not because it may kill my entire garden. I'm sure it'll be fine. What's the worst that could happen?....

Looks more like soup than tea....

Got me laughing until I cried. Lol

Hey 420. Here's what has been happening over at the Prof's.

The veg tent now only contains the re-vegging plants and the new strains....
DSC02353.JPG

I'm happy that these are in the clear and will start to water them properly from now on. I have been watering them a small amount each day and removing any run off but now I will start bottom feeding. The Miami Heat is on the left, Balkh is centre stage and Kholm is on the right....
DSC02354.JPG

The Barneys auto grow has been set up in the 2x4 Gorilla Lite tent and will be running on 300w of power instead of 200w like I previously said it would. The reason for this is because the mother in law would like me to aim for higher yield lol. The last 2 harvests have impressed me and personally I would like to try to push the low wattage grows to see just what is possible. The MIL doesnt see it that way and said that she isn't really overly concerned with the extra power usage. I also tried to explain the heat increase issue but she said to deal with that when it gets here lol. I compromised and increased the 2 tents by 100w instead of going with the suggested HPS lol. She still doesnt trust LED's for some reason.
The seeds have been planted straight into some flushed and pre-charged coco. I'm going for 8 plants and 2 of each strain. The strains are Gorilla Glue, Gorilla Zkittles, Dos Si Dos and Wedding Cake....

Nice strains Prof. Gg#4 is beautiful to grow but def needs lots of support to keep them all light facing. Floppy gits...Wedding cake yields well too. GZ is on my top 10 list too. Good luck mate. Considering the GG#4 for this next run too. Got some sweet seed company strains to run too. Going with 12 this time 6 nft and 6 los. Hopefully new light will storm it too. Popping seeds tonight. On par again brother.lol

Its not something that I've ever done before. Becoming a gardener does weird things to you. Whereas I used to dodge shit I now aim for it lol.
Manure is really expensive so collecting It seemed to make a lot of sense. I'm just hoping a that a fish waste truck crashes at the bottom of the road.
Your Breaking me up, I must have a soft spot for shit jokes. Lol

Hey peeps! It feels like it has been ages lol. Its been a busy week here with work starting again so I have been a tad preoccupied. We changed telephone service providers also so getting online was tricky.

I have some updates coming up later to bring you all up to date then begins the dreaded slog that is "catching up".

Hope I've not missed too much and hope you've all been well.

Back shortly with all the gossip

Hey 420. Got some nug pics from the harvest on the way but I had to delete so many as they were either out of focus or incredibly bright and some were even both. The camera is telling me that it is in focus even if it is not and I cant tell until I upload the pics onto a device with a larger screen. I'll do some more when I get the chance. Also there will be a the strain reviews on the way shortly.

Crumbled Lime #1....
The shorter of the 2 but also the tastier. The finished buds are quite frosty but not overly pretty....

The second Crumbled Lime has all the looks and is covered in frost. This one packs a punch but is pleasantly functional is a great mood enhancer....

What a nice selection of frosty nuggets Prof! Despite the camera issues you got some very nice shots of the buds, they show the frost on them really well.
Thanks N. The smoke reports will be coming up very soon.

I started with 3 re-vegging plants but only one has worked I think. I threw out the Hoe Down as she wasn't going to re-veg. I removed too much flower from her frame. The Double D's started to grow but has since lost momentum. It doesnt look like she has grown in days. Again I removed a little too much flower from this one. The crumbled Lime has exploded with "war of the worlds" growth and already has normal leaves beginning to grow. I'll do an update on those soon
Where you at Prof???
:ciao::circle-of-love:
I'm here VG!
Got me laughing until I cried. Lol
I've been at it again recently! The festering barrel is still going lol.

More on those plants later but let me warn you that it isn't great news.
Your Breaking me up, I must have a soft spot for shit jokes. Lol
My favourite "shit" joke is "why did the baker have brown hands?....Because he kneaded a poo"
Gald you are well.
I was beginning to worry. :hugs:
Don't worry VG, I'm like a turd that won't flush. You can't get rid of me that easily :green_heart:
LoL....
Fucking same....

Glad to see the Prof is alive & kickin'
Thanks P!. How about you buddy? You good? Last I saw was your journal came to a pause and now I can't see anything in your sig. Is your thread back up?
Good to see you buddy.
Good to see you as well GG. You'll never guess what. I'm like you know. Mr's F has gone back to work almost full time and I'm apparently now a stay at home dad lol. My work is still touch and go and she has work offers coming out of her ears so we decided to swap responsibilities for a bit. It's going well so far.

This was a particular frosty round. I was getting really worried about mould during the last week of flower. They came out almost perfect in the end but I just wish that I could have had a slightly slower drying time. They took 7 days to dry with a maybe a day or 2 of burping time. Normally my buds would take around 10 to 14 days to dry though these taste just fine. I can only make a couple of joints with the Crumbled Lime before I can't twist the Space Case anymore lol

Each to their own. That’s all good. Being nosey, though (it’s a donkey thing) how many misters F are you ‘with’ there? ;)

Life is starting to balance...

I took a break for some alcohol detox & self reflection...

I kinda dipped my toe off the deep end...

Self reflection showed me what matters more than my ego.

Well suppose I should get the bad news out of the way first. The Barneys auto grow looks like it won't be going underway. A day after the last update on that thread I noticed a familiar look to the freshly sprouted seedlings. It was a look of disaster. Not long afterwards they started to fall and we lost all 8 seedlings to, wait for it....damping off. That's right. it got me again. 8 seedlings in 2 days. I cleaned the whole of the inside of the tent with bleach and hydrogen peroxide, flushed the coco with H2O2 and used the last 4 seedlings to start anew. One is already dead from damping off again! We still have the Gorilla Glue, Gorilla Zkittles and the Wedding Cake but if you ask me, they have "the look". It has been yet another catastrophe but from the ashes rises new ideas and ambition. Fuck knows what I'm going to do about the Barneys thread though lol. In a typical Flora fashion I have compensated you by planting many seeds which I will go into soon. Lets just say that I will be pushing this journal in a slightly different direction in the near future.

Quick update on these is in order I think. They looked very different in their last update. I have done some more super-cropping over the last week and have also raised the Hashplant D and the Fat Purple up to reach the canopy. They are on full strength feeds and look pretty good. There has been no flushing of the pots with this grow yet either. The light is pretty good. Shed was right in saying that a 200w light would probably beat a 100w light despite the latter being "designed" for growing plants. This light is doing great so far and the flowers look to be producing healthily. There is still a way to go yet though.

Here are the plants today....

Keep it frosty
:passitleft:

Actually 200W of 4000K should beat 160W of 3000 or 3500K in flowering easily. 4000K is much more efficient and brighter than 3 or 3.5k. That red boost doesn't make as much difference as advertised. It's great to have but not a must. If you have a spesific model with very low red spectrum than things may differ. I will test this with my full spectrum DIY board without any red boost. I will compare the results side by side with 660nm and possibly with 730nm too. I don't think there will be any more difference than %5-10. Like I said, its great to have, but not a must.

Cheers :passitleft:

Thanks for the input TC. The thing which interested me was the 100w grow light vs 200w warehouse lighting (non grow light purchased from Amazon). I remember when LED was a new and alien form of grow lighting and manufactures would make all kinds of claims about "specific wavelengths" and "quality of light". Turns out plants will grow under any lighting provided it is strong enough. One of the things I was interested in is seeing how the 4000k did against the 3000k plus infra red in regards to flower quality. I can confirm that the flowers on these are just as good looking, frosty and stinky as they normally are. They look like they might even be a little more frosty. I'm certain the Fat Purple has more frost than when I grew her out under the 600w HPS. It might be because temps are way better now though.

Thank you TraLa. I do try to keep the area organised. I really can't think when surrounded by mess. It was getting uncomfortably dirty during the last grow when I did the bottom feeding with the fabric pots. I felt ill just looking at it lol

Totally man. Grow light term doesn't mean shit. People are growing with any kinds of light. Just make sure its not totally green :) Grow light term can only indicate more efficient diodes as a plus but, that is rarely the case. People are being screwed in the LED industry forever. Nowadays, the market is better with several great manufacturers.

About the comparison, it would be nice to observe the difference on this grow. I can say that the frost difference can be caused from either the heat or the lack of blue in HPS. My opinion leans towards the heat because personally, I don't think blue or UV-A spectrum provides a lot more frost. It should make %2-3 difference tops when the grow is done properly and I don't think that anyone can notice %2-3 trichome difference. Way too fine to decide.

I will also provide you side by side results on one of my future journals. That grow will start on first week of july and I will probably start the journal in 2-3 weeks. I will demonstrate my DIY LED boards in that journal and compare 4000K only model with 660nm and possibly 730nm one, which will basically become an Emerson Effect boosted board if I can get the 730nm diodes soldered on the pcb for a reasonable price. In worst case, I will be comparing 4000K vs 4000K+660nm. I will install one full spectrum and two red boosted boards inside 4x4 tent. These will draw a total of 720-750W from the wall. I will install three red boosted boards on the other 4x4, and compare the two tents as well as the individual plants that are under 4000K with their roommates. I don't think red gives you more efficiency than %7-8 by all means but depending on how large your grow space is, this number can become very desirable. We will experiment and see the results soon. I bet everyone will end up just using full spectrum mid power LED's in slightly higher quantities than now.

The sun is shining and it is hot hot hot! Time for a smoke. Here is a nice Crumbled Lime #1 nug....
