Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

Wow! Nice roots!! I meant to mention it to you on my thread the other day, but nebula haze did a - cuttings in a cup - experiment on insta. The cuttings rooted and did well for about two months, but then died. Looks like we might want to figure out what we’re gonna do with those puppies... :hmmmm:
That's interesting. Did it die after being potted up or was it still inn the glass the whole time?

She left them in the glass. She wanted to see how long they would last in there. I’ll go refresh my memory and bring back any other pertinent details.

I never tried growing in a glass, but I do recall that some of my plants that rooted in the Cloninator had a tough time with the transition to soil. Growing in a glass would be like DWC with no airstone. Someone probably tried it and when the plant died they said "Hmmm...I wonder if it would work with an airstone!"

These are the plants which will be under the 100w or 200w light which I will leave up to you guys to decide
As long as you don't ask me which bean to pop I'll say the 100w because climate change. I do wonder how they both read with a lux meter though, because if those are both wall-watts, I would think you would get better production under the 200w even if it wasn't "designed" for plants.

Hi Prof and all. :ciao: I used to root/clone houseplants in a glass or jar all the time. Dunno why i never tried it with da kine. I used to leave some stuff in there till the roots got pretty dense. I'd put some kinda weak nutes in there once in a while.

I've removed one from the glass today and have set it up in a more permanent glass under some actual lighting. The 3 cuttings are growing but are beginning to look bad as they have just been sat on the shelf for a while. Also I haven't checked PH or changed the water since I last showed you. Check out the up coming pics. Just gotta deal with Shed first.

I think it is called the Kratky Method and supposedly works for some plants. I've just set up this cute little dark glass jar complete with 2" net pot and neoprene disk to hold it in place....

I'm going to try and bring one of the clones back to good health....

I didn't use the clone with the best roots as I have other plans to destroy that one. These fit together quite nicely though....

I currently have the roots fully submerged which isn't how the Kratky method is supposed to work but hey. the stem is a bit too long and the roots aren't currently long enough. I'm hoping that the dark glass will help the roots along a bit....

This one is now in the veg tent and I will update you as she dies....

Climate change is a good enough reason for your vote. That is one in favour of the 100w grow. Keep your votes coming people.

I would love to tell you their stats but sorry. No meter. They are the true wall watts though. It does annoy me that the 100w light has 1000 in its name as that is bull shit. The 200w light is 26'000 lumens but I'm not sure about the 100w unit. The 100w is rated at 2.7umol/J which doesnt mean much to me other than I know that most lights dont go above that number yet lol.

Hey Fred! How are you buddy and welcome to my journal. I know that you passed through on 4/20 but we didn't get to chat much.
The cloning in a jar seems like a logical thing to do if you have mothers which you're cutting back a lot. Why not throw them in a jar. It's either that or the compost...or even worse, the stinky barrel of homemade fertiliser lol. To be honest I have had a bad time cloning over the last year as there was a problem with my aeroponic propagator. I was blaming myself for most of the failures but have made a recent discovery which may explain why the clones weren't taking in there. I opened up the pump and discovered that it was full of mould. The reason I had not noticed this before is because I didn't realise that I could take the pump apart that much. I mean I knew that it came apart but I discovered that it came apart again....and again lol. There was a middle section which was full of slime and my clones wouldn't push root and eventually got the rot. I'm not sure if that is the whole story but I'm having more fun doing it this way. it saves a lot of space as well which is a bonus. I can save on space and be lazy and all it costs me is an extra week or so. Still more investigation needs to be done first. Apologies for off-loading on you. You caught me at a good/bad time lol.
Cheer Fred

No prob, Prof! Dont mind if i do. :passitleft: That makes sense about the mold. Like i said , my experience with rooting in jars of water only involve houseplants but they'd go in right after cutting and come out a big wad of roots with some algea and stuff but thriving and ready for soil.

This year I decided to multiply all of my herbs which includes sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano etc. You know, all of the usual suspects. All of them clone well in water so why not cannabis. I wish I had done it sooner

Incredible find that dark jar with the perfect 2" opening for that clone! I'm looking forward to its long life and untimely death. :thumb:
That is a Marmite jar. Your wife must have an opinion on marmite. Its a love-hate thing.

Hey 420. It looks like this will be one of the final updates for this grow as the plants are all beginning to finish up. Most are showing cloudy trichs and some even have ambers appearing in places. The Purple Punch is done in my opinion which surprised me as I thought that the Ayahuasca purple would be first. To be fair I could probably pull the AP now as well. I'm going to re-evaluate the situation on the weekend but it looks like they will be coming down to me. Not a moment too soon either as supplies are dwindling in the Prof household. This isolation has meant a lot of smoking lol. The family is all but out and I can see them getting twitchy.
This grow has been a breeze and has caused me almost zero problems and very little effort. I can't wait to see how the light has performed compared to last time when I used 400w of power. These plants definitely look like they have more frost than the last time and the flower size seems very similar. The smell is pretty good upon opening the tent now though as you can imagine it is difficult to pick out anything in particular. It just smells like some real good weed lol. The flowers have a bit more body to them now and feel nice on the squeeze. There was a moment a week or so ago when I thought that I may have made a mistake with the low wattage as I couldn't see the flowers filling out much more. Patients is still one of my biggest weaknesses though and I'm quick to doubt myself before the story is over. Well it looks like we will be finding out sooner rather than later with these.
Here we are at flowering day 53. Happy growing y'all....
