Producing Feminized Seeds Using Colloidal Silver

In my experiment the hairs on the flowers I hit with CS are brown and shriveled and the calyx's are swelling a bit. I may spray one more time and stop.

Well My Granma passed away saturday night and I had to fly out of state to her funeral monday to be there for my Dad. Wont be back with my girls till thursday. This means there will be a 3 day period of no spraying after 6 or 7 days of spraying. When I get back I will see if the changes continued and will continue spraying. It is easy to become sort of obssesed with this plant, keeps me out of trouble. Jock Horror is Nirvana's copy / knockoff of Jack Herrer, heard good things about it.

My condolences to you and your family.:peace:

Dr. Seems my ability to PM is restricted by my low post count.

My CS treatment began 2 days prior to flowering. It looks like I will be able to get some mature seed by the end of the plants life with a total flowering of about 10 weeks, which is slightly longer than the recommended flowering time for that strain. No matter though, everything but seeds should be tossed in to make some hash ;)
Best Wishes!.

I decided not to spray again as I am seeing "changes" such as swelling calyx's and very dead pistols. I did spray heavily with a fine mist sprayer, might have hastened the effect. The buds on this plant not sprayed are beautiful and not a red hair among them. I hope stopping spraying will hasten the arrival of the pollen sacks by keeping the plant as healthy as possible.

;) You will watch them develop pollen sacs, which will split and shortly after expose the "nanners" within. Shortly after that the "nanners" will open up and begin to release pollen.
I found it easiest to pluck the open sacs with tweezers (when they are ready that will come off very easily) and immediately tap that sac over a bud which I want pollinated.
Best of luck!
Seeds are developing nicely, pics in a few days.

Indeed. This plant has been pollinated. I thought it looked similar to the formation of pollen sacs. Seems they develop from the same areas, as these tops were not treated with CS, but with the pollen it produced. I have counted no less than 20 which are developing slowly, and did not begin to show until after pollination.
I have never observed a seed being developed before, but I am hoping that it what it is. The coming weeks should allow them to mature and become viable if I am lucky.
Maybe I forgot to mention that I was well into my experiment when I stumbled upon this great thread.
Does it look like a seed being developed should look like?

:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:NotaDrinker:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:

It looks to me like you have done a :goodjob:!!!!! YES - it looks like a seed!!!

Seeds are developing nicely. I assume they go from green to pale then to dark. It is difficult to find good pics of newly developing seeds in buds...
Have you got any from your previous seed experiments to show how the pods look while bearing seeds Granny?

Best Wishes to All.

Edit. Those are definitely seeds... Right?

seeds.png

They are getting darker, and they are everywhere ;)

YES!!!! They ARE seeds! And what a beautiful plant!!!

I was expecting a 4 - 6 week incubation period before the seeds would be viable, and pollinated at week 4 of flower, so that puts me at 10 weeks of flower from CS to seed.
Does that sound like enough time for the seeds to develop? I am in week 2 since the CS phase, and seeds are forming fast. That puts me at another 2 - 4 weeks. How does all that sound?

And that is not the only plant I used CS on. The other is an unknown strain, and is also producing seed, but this ones prettier ;)

I LOVE seeing others having positive results!!! It sounds like you have a very good plan with going another 2-4 weeks. I think you will know when the time is. Personally, I will be going 6 weeks after my pollination dates - or as the plant deems necessary. I think you are doing FANTASTIC!!! You will know when it is time. :-)

So WONDERFUL to see the journal continuing even if I don't have a lot of time to be getting in here! :thankyou::thanks::thankyou:

Honey, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I wish I had been in sooner to offer my support. Things are way too busy here. My prayers are with you and your family. We lost my mum-in-law this last Sept at only 69 years of age. The holidays were quite different without her.

You had to go without spraying for a bit... I have plants I only sprayed part of the time - check out the Widow Ryder update that I get in here today cuz it was one of them. I am pleased I didn't turn that one completely because it's female in waiting is ready to be harvested, but it will be fine self-pollinating itself.

Sprayed the Diesel again, she put out a lot of white hairs while I was away but there are still some affected parts that seemed to stay that way. I believe I will get some pollen for the Diesel cuts that I started flowering today along with an AKx White Widow and the aforementioned AKxSk#1. Thanks everyone, my hillbilly relatives are already fighting over the will. Thank God I don't live out there.

In my experiment the hairs on the flowers I hit with CS are brown and shriveled and the calyx's are swelling a bit. I may spray one more time and stop.

Changes still happening at a good clip, calyx's splitting slightly.

It looks like things are rolling GREAT for you! The only change I would have suggested is not putting the waiting females into flower yet... possibly you could get a clone now from them just in case you need them??? It took a bit longer than I thought it would to produce viable pollen - most took 4 to 6 weeks from the time I stopped spraying. If you prepare clones now, they should be small but may be needed. If not, you can toss them. What you think?

I am just SO TICKLED that you are having great things happening!!
One thing I noticed was the sacs were visable on the lower portion of the treated plant B4 I saw them on the upper portion - but I did have to use a magnifying glass to see them. On the bottom, they came out as pollen sacs NOT inside a pod (calyx) like a regular male plant, but the upper area they came out from inside the calyxes. Those top ones looked very much like a seed splitting the pod.

Have much to update - so on I go!!!

I'm sorry for your loss bro...you have my condolences. :Namaste:

:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:Fratdogg:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:

:welcome: Honey! And :thanks: so much for the wonderful support for DrRedWhite. What a wonderful person you must be. :hugs:

God Bless you and the Family Dr.RedWhite. Hoping all is OK and sorry for your loss.

:thanks: What a special person you are for offering support. :hugs:

Although I have not read all of this journal the opening thread was a fasinating read and I even bookmarked it so I know I can find this journal. I am definately subbed and thank you so much for sharing this kind of journal.

:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:MrSmith:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:

:welcome: Honey!! :thanks: so much for your nice comments. This journal is a GROUP effort now!!! I am finding it real hard to find the time to get in here and SO APPRECIATE others continuing to also report their progess!!! I do have an update today tho!

I best start another message to continue cuz with all the lovin' hearts I know I won't get to keep them all if I continue in this message!!! LOL

I use 4-6 weeks from pollination till the seeds are done. You will know it when they start to fall from the calyx. If you leave them too long, they will all fall out into the soil. They should "look like a seed" nice and dark and be sort of loose in the calyx/easy to get out.

:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:OG13:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:

Hi Honey!!!! This was SO HELPFUL to me (and I hope others too)!!!! I tend to leave things extra long and this tells me I best not lose them in the soil! :thanks::thankyou::thanks:

My condolences to you and your family.:peace:

:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:voltron:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:

:thanks: honey! Another wonderful supporter for DrRedWhite...

I don't know why I should be so amazed at the support the wonderful ppl here gave the Dr. in my absence (cuz 420magazine has the BEST ppl in the world as members!)... but I actually have tears of gratitude for all of you. What very special ppl you all are.

Hey there G420, just stopping in to say hello... looks like things are rolling towards the right direction here.

Take care and :bravo:

And this is one of the wonderful ppl I LOVE DEARLY!!!
:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:SISCO:Love::Love::Love::Love::Love:

:thanks: honey! I'll be checkin' in on yer journal as soon as I can find time!!! Until then...

I LOVE YOU MORE!!!! :circle-of-love:

UPDATE: GRANNY420'S TIME...

I am so sorry, but my time is real short now-a-days. PLEASE continue to chit chat and share your experiences and pics in my absences. I AM NOT CLOSING the journal or quitting it in any way!!! I am producing seeds and will not close this journal until those FEMALE seeds are produced!!! I am delighted to see you all continuing to share when I'm not in!!! PLEASE keep it up!!! This journal's purpose is for EVERYONE ELSE to learn... and the more reports, opinions, and experiences, the better!

I am very overwhelmed with life tho... and if running my own full-time business and end of the year (not to mention every day too) bookkeeping for FOUR businesses is not enough, well, I have been harvesting and still have 5 more huge plants to go in this next week... and more pollinating and LSTing and transplanting... well, you all get the picture. I am overloaded!!! I hope you all understand!!!!

Thus, I won't be responding to every message in the near future due to a lack of time here. I hate that, but soooo want you all to continue visiting and sharing without thinking you are causing me to have to reply - nope, cuz this is notice that I won't even try to respond to everyone from here out! PLEASE KEEP SHARING!!!

With that said... here comes the updates!!!

UPDATE: AUTO HIMALAYA BLUE DIESEL

50/50 Plant: Bottom Treated with CS - Top UNtreated

I used the pollen collected from the pollen sacs I created on the lower part of this plant by treating it with Colloidal Silver spray to pollinate the untreated buds on the top half of this plant. I started pollinating this plant in mid-December and re-pollinated weekly two times.

I have now removed the pollen sacs from the bottom of this plant after positively assuring the top portion was pollinated (didn't screw this one up! LOL). Here she is today...

Closer pic of the bottom where I removed anything with pollen sacs so this girl could go back into the flower room again...

And the top grew buds just fine - in great time with the remainder of the plant being treated... here is the top part...

Here are some pics of seeded buds from different areas...

I really liked being able to use the pollen from the bottom treated part of the plant to pollinate the upper portion of this plant. So anyone thinking of doing a plant 50/50 - go for it!

That is my first FEMALE SEED POKING THRU!!! I'm excited!!!!

UPDATE: AUTO WIDOW RYDER

NOT POLLINATED YET!!! BUT GETTING CLOSE.

COLLOIDAL SPRAY TREATMENT: All for 8-10 days, then split the plant and sprayed only the bottom after that.

In the beginning for (8 to 10 days and before any flowers were showing), I treated this entire plant with CS. Then I read again about this auto strain and saw it is an auto flowering that flowers after reaching 6 to 9 nodes of growth - not automatically based upon time. Thus, I stopped spraying/treating the top half of this plant to let it grow (CS is hard on them and was slowing it's growth down). In the end, I got a plant that is mixed with buds and pollen sacs as shown below...

Here is the entire plant...
01-09-2012_AutoWidowRyder_MixedPlant.jpg

The lowest portion which was treated with CS until it's pistils (hairs) stopped forming developed ALL pollen sacs...
01-09-2012_AutoWidowRyder_BottomPollenSacs.jpg

Next you can see the pollen sacs are just now starting to open a bit which means in the next 1 to 2 weeks I should have viable pollen. I did remove a few that were farther along, but it didn't take.. so I will wait another week and try again...
01-09-2012_AutoWidowRyder_SacsOpening.jpg

The upper portion grew a lot of bud...
01-09-2012_AutoWidowRyder_TopMix.jpg

But when you look closer at those buds you can see there is a clear mixture of bud and pollen sacs and lots of nanas. the farther down the plant, the more there seem to be. Here are a few pics of different buds with a mixture...

01-09-2012_AutoWidowRyder_BudMix3.jpg

The female I have in waiting in the flower room is ready to be harvested and will not have time to make seed. Thus, I am real glad I stopped spraying the top of this plant.

I believe this plant will self itself, but I have it separated from the others and will help it along soon too. As I said, I tried this last week but the pollen didn't take yet. Next week I bet it does. I don't think I should even have to do that, but will anyway. I really think if a plant like this is just left alone it would do it all itself.

This plant will not be able to go back into the flower room tho because of all those nanas and sacs. It will be kept separate until it finishes.

UPDATE: LADYBURN 1974

TWO CLONES TAKEN AT DIFFERENT TIMES...
1 FOR CREATING POLLEN
1 FOR POLLINATING

Two clones used from the same mother plant (same genetics). One was put to flower at a small size and treated with CS. The second clone was taken when the first clone had been being treated for 3 weeks. The second was put to flower shortly after she was taking off in growth, still very small - at this time the first treated plant had formed many sacs, but not beginning to open them yet. It was perfect timing tho (as was the Pineapple Chunk that I did this same thing with).

This is a regular strain (not an auto-strain).

Hmm... LOL, I just realized I didn't take any pics of the treated plant. Oh well, I did when I was creating pollen sacs so I hope that was good enough. Now, we are on to pollinating I guess!

This is the SECOND plant, the clone taken for the purpose of pollinating only. I began pollinating her last week and believe she took just fine, but re-pollinated yesterday after her pics got taken. I am putting pics of her in so others can see pollination changes.

Here she is... another small plant that doesn't take up much room, but has a great purpose in producing me FEMALE seeds...
01-09-2012_Ladyburn1974FemalePartPollinated.jpg

To assure my pollination, I pollinated specific portions of this plant so I could see the changes that take place in the buds with pollination.

Here are a couple pics of the buds I did NOT pollinate last week...

And here are a couple pics of buds that clearly show pollination changes (pistils/hairs dying back), but I did pollinate again after these pics to assure complete pollination...
01-09-2012_Ladyburn1974_PollinatedBud1.jpg

01-09-2012_Ladyburn1974_PollinatedBud2.jpg

I don't think I would have to pollinate again... but since I screwed up that one and had no seeds in the end... well, let's just say I am making sure I don't do that again! I thought I saw changes on THAT previous plant - but not a seed in the end (just good smoke, so not all was lost).

The changes in the pistils/hairs are definite when you compare pollinated to not pollinated buds. That is the first change you will see after a viable pollination. But if it was a complete bud pollination, the entire bud's pistils would have died back. However, as in pregnancy - you can't be just a little pregnant, so I don't think I would need to re-pollinate, but I did anyway just to be sure.

Why??? Cuz I don't have any clones of this lady (or room at present) and now that I see what a great plant this one is... I sure want seeds!

Here are the two Ladyburn 1974 ladies I have in the flower room - they are ready to harvest whenever I can get to them... the color in the pic is a bit off cuz I'm still messing with light settings for under the HPS lights...
01-10-2012_Ladyburn1974Plants.jpg

I don't know if you can tell from those pics, but the buds on this strain are different than any other I have grown. This strain put on trichs very early and very very very thick (see buds below). But the buds themselves are dense fatties like I've never seen before. They are very wide - everywhere. Many are about 2 inches wide - and not just the top ones. And they are hard and very dense. I don't know what the return weight will be on these plants, but I'm positive it will be much higher than a number of other strains of similar size. The buckets are 5 gallons buckets.

Here are a couple bud pics... (color should be much greener tho = camera lighting)
01-10-2012_Ladyburn1974Bud1.jpg

01-10-2012_Ladyburn1974Bud2.jpg

If you notice, the edges of tons of leaves folded upward with the amount of trichs that loaded it! Absolutely a gorgeous plant - and these came from one free seed! I planted it outside and it got overgrown by a Pineapple Chunk that grew massive, but made my outside lady almost unseeable and stunted. Thus, I didn't know what this plant could do. I took clones of that outside plant in August - these are those clones... and the clones I used in this experiment came after that. All from that one free seed. Thank you for letting me try this one! It is a mix of Jack Herer (?spelling) and Ice Dream.

That's if for the Ladyburn 1974 update!!!

UPDATE: AUTO BLUE HIMALAYA (PURPLE!)

NOT A PART OF THIS EXPERIMENT! JUST PRETTY AND BEING SEEDED...

Here is the entire plant...
01-09-2012_AutoBlueHimalaya_PartPollinated.jpg

The beginning... (where she came from)
Okay, I had 10 regular (not fem) Auto Blue Himalaya seeds in the beginning. I planted them and had a variety of plants. There were five females...
1) The first female I used as my first plant I turned with CS and *thought* I seeded #2
2) The second female was very far into flowering at the time and I didn't get her seeded. I didn't know that tho until I harvested her after waiting a way long time for NO seeds, let alone female seeds!!!
3 & 4) These females I pollinated with one male (kept one male to use).
5) The other female plant was a strange one. It's first two ROUND petals that are usually on opposite sides of the stem, were both on the same side. This plant grew very oddly so I didn't want to use it for pollination. It also grew some odd colors which I thought were part of it's oddity, but now realize were a purple that is somewhere in this strain's genetics because...

Out of the seeds I produced with 3 & 4 (regular seeds from male/female of same strain), THIS purple plant was produced. I planted 8 seeds and got 3 females - this is one of them. The other two are shorter and NOT purple.

Soo... I decided I best pollinate this plant so I have a better chance of reproducing the purple in the future. I seeded the middle section with the male pollen I had frozen from when I pollinated this plant's momma.

I know - incest! EEK!!! But I figure the purple is in this strain's genetics and in the future I want to try to fine tune this plant to produce purple consistantly... so I bred it back to it's own strain in the hopes of creating a purer purple strain down the road in future generations from this plant.

I also crossed it with Mazar pollen and Cream Caramel pollen (two branches each). This is why you see all those tags on it!!!

I *hope* I got it pollinated, and believe I did... but again, it didn't pollinate every pistil/hair... so I am left uneasy. I used all the frozen pollen I had remaining on this plant... but if all else fails, I have hundreds of the seeds this one came from and I can use them to selectively breed if I need to.

This pic is the top of the plant - NOT pollinated...

And another from the bottom of buds NOT pollinated...

AFTER LOOKING AT THE NEXT PICS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK - POLLINATED???
Now, here are pics of buds I *think* got pollinated - but please let me know what you all think!!!

Again - please let me know what you all think? I guess I'll know in a few weeks on how the buds make further changes... I just want this one to be pollinated real bad!!!

That is the last outta me for today... and probably until next week. Wish I didn't have to do all my responsibilities and had every day to be here. Wish that real bad... but WHO DOESN'T??? Retirement - I am ready for you!!!!

:Love::Love::Love::circle-of-love::Love::Love::Love:LOVIES TO ALL!!!:Love::Love::Love::circle-of-love::Love::Love::Love:

Oh! Just a note for something I forgot to mention with pollination...

IMPORTANT NOTE ON NOT DAMAGING CALYXES/HAIRS WITH POLLINATION METHODS

When I pollinated my first plants and used male pollen, I used a q-tip and "tapped" it over the bud and watched the pollen fall onto the bud. This pollination produced many seeds.

When I turned my first girl to produce female pollen sacs (and female seeds), I let the pollen sacs dry and tried tapping over the bud, but also just picked the pollen sacs up with the tweezers and kind of shook them over AND ONTO (touching the hairs) the waiting pistils/hairs. When the pistils changed colors, I *thought* I had pollinated. But what I think I did was just damage the pistils with my pollination method (TOUCHED THEM). But this plant did NOT get pollinated = NO seeds.

So... whatever method you use, do NOT touch the pistils/hairs with any objects. Make sure you are tapping or shedding from ABOVE the hairs. I get in a good lighted area so I can see the pollen flow down onto the bud when I tap ABOVE (not ever touching) the bud. This way I know changes in those pistils canNOT be from me causing damage.

Just thought others could learn from what I feel I did wrong in that pollination. Hope it helps someone!!! :high-five:

Absolutely pollinated.

And I concur on damaging the hairs with contact during pollination. I know for sure that I did make contact a few times, and there are definitely some pods that are with red "dead" hairs but are not swollen and seeded. Luckily for me I did not make too much contact, as I am forming seed in many other pods.

And as far as using the CS, I want to say that I will never use it on the top of the plant again. For the amount of pollen needed, it is much much better to use the CS on ANY other growing node. I noticed that the pollen sacs on the underside of the plant (where direct light was minimal) developed and produced pollen at the same rate as the top (where direct light was plentiful).
From spraying the top of the plant, I lost the main top cola of the plant to 500 pollen sacs (of which I needed 25 or so), and now that its usefulness is over, I am afraid to cut it off because I don't want to stunt the plant or something during seed production.

Also, next time I am thinking I will use a simple dropper to administer the CS to the tops I want sacs to form. It is obvious that the silver is needed at the tops, and that the leaves don't like the solution. Also that would reduce the risk of contamination other areas of the plant. Would use less CS, and once dialed in, would help in "selfing" a plant with zero hand pollination necessary ;).

Sorry to blab, I just thought I should mention changes I would have / will make, for everyone's consideration.

Great update Granny!
