PP Bagseed Outdoor Grow Journal - 2018

Ok as soon as I posted that it gave me the option, are you not allowed to edit a post after a while?

Was thinking of getting this soil in 2 weeks, thoughts?

Found out those white things is perlite.

Looks like the soil you're using has a high clay content. That would cause your plant roots to suffocate & eventually rot as it retains a large amount of water.

Get the promix & your girls will thank you for it ;)

You are hundred percent correct, and I knew this when I was mixing the soil and say a big clump of clay. Didn't know it will affect the plant so negatively.

Im gonna try to get it by next week or will have to wait for end of the month. I have put better soil now though, but definitely getting the promix, just a matter of time. I hope they recover now so can handle the next up pot.

Great. I'm subbed. I prefer growing outdoors as well & using clay soil was the mistake I made with my first grow last year. Luckily I could fix it in time & save my girls. Ended up with some very potent & tasty bud & hopefully another harvest after their current re-veg :D

When you day you managed to fix it in time, how long into vehicle was it? Did you suffer similar symptoms as I am?

Thanks man, I really hope I can get them to thrive now. Trying to get two fitness to invest so I can get the bigger pots and promix soon!

What do you mean reveg? You just took off the buds and growing from the same plants again?

Mine were far worse. Still in the seedling stage. Literally just 2 droopy leaves & roots that had rotted almost to the stem when I dug them up. Pity I never took pictures.

I used my last few bucks & bought proper soil & nutrients. :)

By re-veg I mean the plant went back into veg phase after harvest when winter was over. I left some of the lower popcorn buds on the lower parts of the plant & new growth came from those buds when the weather started getting warmer & the days got longer...

Ah I see, i need to learn how to do that. Would you say that's better than taking a clone of them if it's a female.

Well then I guess I have some hope now for my plants. What size pots did you have? And how was the harvest?

I agree that most of your problem now is related to this odd mix of soil that you are using. The white stuff you are curious about is perlite, and it allow the soil to stay loose and provides places for the microorganisms to hide. Too much compost and too much clay can make your soil so hard that the roots have trouble growing through it. A good soil for weed is loose and never clumps up like what you are seeing. Adding 20% perlite to your mix would help a lot, and i like the promix you were looking at too... much better situation to grow pot in. Mixing your own soil mix is a science unto itself and will allow you to reuse your soil over and over again.... and it is not easy to get the mix right. My favorite commercial soils are the FoxFarm line, and the Roots Organic 101 to use as my base, and then I develop and culture an organic living super soil using that along with the minerals and chemicals that will be needed to grow the plants. My organic soils are far superior to anything that can be bought because of all of the extra work and materials I put into them, but there is no reason that you can't get good results without going to all the effort that I expend. That promix will work pretty well once you learn its nuances, but it too will break down and become useless after a grow or two.
I will tell you though, that if your soil turns to a soupy glob every time you water and the water does not flow through the container and out the bottom, your soil mix is less than optimum for this project.
I think this is what you are seeing with the plants that are beginning to claw.... their roots are in trouble, and the leaves are pointing to the problem at their feet.

So the premix 90/10 that's recommended for outdoors will only last me like 2 grows? That's a bummer! So if I had to get some good compost and perlite and mix it with this soil so it's nice and water goes through smoothly, will it be reusable more than once? I'm assuming I will have to add nutrients to it tho? Ok so the two sick ones had bad drainage, the others a much better, however, only 2 or 3 have good drainage but still water doesn't flow through like free flow, it goes down quick like instantly but it comes out same time but slowly.

So I'm gonna get 15 litre pots and 100l of the promix to save these gals and for starting off the next grow. So I think 2 grows with nutrients for the flowering stage should put me on track? What nutrients will I need if I get the promix? I have to do something to save them, if i get the soil in the next few days won't it be too stressful for the plants? Even though it is for a good cause. I really wish I came to this site before actually starting. I just ended planting seeds to see if it will grow and it did and then i started researching, now I learnt a whole lot and I'm sure the next grow il be much better at growing them from scratch.

What do you suggest I do for now? Should I leave them and see if they get stronger and grow more roots and start growing? If not then do the soil change.

the problem is that you are outside and there is not enough time now to really get another grow going before the flowering season starts in about a month or less. Everything you have been doing is stressful to the plants, and trying to save them in the promix is a good last ditch effort.... I say go for it.
The promix is made with 50% coco peat, and after one grow that stuff will be breaking down and turning the soil acidic. You really don't think a manufacturer would give you a product that lasted forever do you? They want you to have to buy more. The only forever soil is a well maintained organic living soil.
As far as compost goes... that is what has created your mess and what is causing the goo... you do not need any more compost. Get some real soil and some perlite. No sand either. Quit trying to invent the wheel here... go with what the pro's use. Also if you go with the promix, maintaining a pH at 6.1 is going to be critical... you might want to invest in a cheap digital pH meter. I hope no one told you that it is easy to grow a weed in a container.

Ok cool, there's a promix for outdoor use that's 90 coco and 10 perlite, is that ok? I'm ok with it if it lasts 2 grows. I'm just trying to grow these plants successfully with what I have, I only had enough to buy 2 bags of compost and took soil from the garden. I'm definitely gonna use what the pros use cos now I'm hooked lol.

I see some promising signs in all the plants, the new growth is straightening out and other leaves that were taking forever to grow has grown a bit already.

As soon as i get hold of sum funds im gonna get promix or a good soil with perlite and see which one is more economical for me. Till then I'm just gonna give these plants some tlc. I have done more than enough damage to them.

We will be getting 11 and a half hours of night around mid March. You think they can possibly flower before that with less than 12 hours of darkness?

Also, would it be possible for me add some light to it outside if it's around 11 or 12 hours of darkness to grow another plant? Is it possible?

One thing you have to learn from growing outdoors is patience :D They'll flower when they're ready & don't try to rush things.

I'm hoping for a harvest in Mar/Apr but if it takes longer, then so be it. Gives them more time to fatten up...

Hundred percent, I don't mind waiting and honestly I expected it to grow much slower. I still wanna hear more about your first outdoor grow and how it recovered, it gives me hope!

Gonna take some pics now and upload.

The 1st pic is what my first grow looked like 4 weeks after transplant into good soil. They were all in half bottles in the beginning & all started flowering around week 10. Definitely a budget grow with pots that were too small, it was the cheapest I could get at the time. :) the plant on the right in the 1st pic is also the plant on the far right on the 2nd pic after I transplanted it to a 20l pot during it's re-veg ;)

Looking healthy in the first pic, 4 weeks after transplant, looking good. How was the harvest one them?

That's a bush right there in the second pic. How far are they are?

Here's pics that I took now and I added the pics from 50hours ago as a side by side comparison. The pics with more sun is today.

Looking at these pics you can see a significant amount of growth, the small leaves, the small side stems, I'm happy with this growth, I haven't seen growth like this in more than a week.

Im glad ur girls are recovering. :) they should start growing like crazy as long as everything is ok.

In my first pic. The small ones on the left were at 4 weeks & started in bad soil, thats why they're smaller when the pic was taken. The one on the right is a few days younger. I started her with the soil I bought.

2nd pic, middle plant. No idea actually. I just let it do it's thing. ;) it's probably 4 or 5 months

Well I'm sure they gonna need nutrients soon be use this soil probably doesn't have enough. So if I see good signs tomorrow and no bad signs then I know they can grow a bit in this soil so I won't have to transplant them right away.

So all in all how long was the veg period for this damaged plants?

And was all outdoors?

Please tell me you got at least 20grams on each plant?

Way more than 20 grams. Lol. Probably between 30 & 40. I dont have a scale. I still have a bit left that I'm saving. I gave 90% of that harvest away. I only use a small amount at a time.

10 weeks from seed to flower, then about another 10 weeks till fully harvested. I was cutting & drying in small amounts, not cutting the whole plant down
