I certainly appreciate your patience.

Right now I'm doing some training and topping. And it's not easy with a camera in one hand and the snips in the other. Haha.

Lots going on and I'm taking pictures every step of the way!

***WEDNESDAY'S TRAINING UPDATE***

Hi gang!

Well I certainly had my hands full this morning. It had been a few days since I was able to get into the garden and get my hands dirty. Now that has changed. Got everything bent, tucked and topped. It's amazing how quick the girls will grow if you leave them be.
My goal is to produce an even canopy across all the girls. That means I need to constantly bend new shoots and pin down the big ones. I'm always moving fan leaves and tucking them under the tops and branches. I don't believe in removing them so, I try my hardest to tuck tuck tuck.
Again, I still haven't transplanted the last girl yet. She's still in a 3 gallon pot. The problem is, if I transplant her to a bigger pot, she will not fit in that closet. It's tight. So, I'll take my time. Cause I'm so good at procrastinating :)

Now, take my hand and let's take a look at what I've done!

ORKA
Isn't she beautiful? This girl tickles my heart every time I see her doing her thing. Those two shoots make me think she's yelling "hey, look at me!" As you can see I'm trying to pin down those arms and allow for more to pop up.

8BALL KUSH
Now the 8Ball has been doing some wonderful things. My plan with her is to train her to have an even canopy. Similar to a flux. But I've never done a flux before. So, here's my attempt.
Since she has done everything right up till now, I figure I'll top her. She is one of the last of the trained girls to get a topping so nows the time. I fully expect that this will allow for the other lower shoots to fire up so I can train them inward in some way.

TOP DAWG
Top Dawg, what can I say, she's been a problem from the get go. And every time she seems to be pulling through I forget that she's supposed to be drinking just water and I feed her with the rest. **palm to face** duh**.
So, it's not her fault I simply haven't given her an honest shot yet. I decided to top her as well. It probably wasn't a good idea since she's under enough stress already but it's done.

JACK HERER
Jack has been topped once and she's doing great. I'm splitting the two tops apart and forcing lower growth to take off and continue to add to the canopy. She's a fighter though, I've had to replace her ties twice because she pulls them outta the dirt. It shows in her stem.l, it's beefing right up.

SUPER HAZE
She hasn't received any training at all. And I thought very hard today whether or not I was going to top her but then decided that when the autos arrive, she will join them in the flower room under a 18/6 light schedule. I'll flower her out as a non trained girl. Only done this once before and I love how it turned out. Marijuana is a beautiful plant and I like to see her in her natural form to. But isn't she just tall and lanky? Probably not the strongest of seeds. But she's alive.

Now let's close the door until tonight to see how well they've rebounded. Can't thank you enough for joining me today. Your company brings joy to my heart and makes my life a little better. Have a great day folks!

Looks like I need to step up with my updates. You guys put me to shame. Awesome my friend and packed with hints and tips. reps++

It sure takes a lot of time though. Including the work I did this update took about 2 hours. So, you certainly need time on your hands.

Thanks for popping in, Sir!

I always smile when I read how you tuck the leaves. I do this also, even when I know they will just fall off when I try to tuck some of the dying ones. The thought of allowing the plant time to drain the dying leaves of everything makes me feel like the dying leaf did their full part. Great information as always! I'm in a similar boat where I had kind of wished that I had left at least one plant untrained to just watch it grow natural.

Haha thanks for the reassurance, Griz.

I watched a video one time by one of my mentors, Jorge Cervantes, and he explained it simply. Photosynthesis is the idea that plants use their leaves to take in light and energy. Why would I take them off? I also like to think that the leaves are putting everything they have into the process and consider them spent with a job well done. :).

Don't feel too bad about not letting one grow because I'll be the first to tell you that, indoors, they simply don't harvest as much as a trained girl.

:thanks::bump:

When I lived in Hawaii I took to surfing. The locals told me I was a soul surfer because I wasn't out to beat the ocean, I was out there to be part of it. I like Jorge because I consider him a soul gardener, not out for yield, just out to let a plant live to it's fullest potential.

Says a lot about who you are as well.

Jorge has a passion for gardening that I can't help but become absorbed into anything he says. Just such a smart fellow.

I often have to keep in mind that he is an outdoor gardener and I'm an indoor gardener so some of the things he says I can't always apply to my situation.

Hope you don't mind if I pull up a chair :)

Looking really good round these parts ;)

I almost missed this Mono!

It would be my pleasure to have you. A connoisseur is always welcome around here! Please get comfy and pipe up anytime!

Looking good man!

I'm amazed you don't have reflectors of some kind on all those bulbs. More than half your light is being lost the way it is now. Guys make them out of beer cans but even a piece of foil on the back of each bulb will get you a lot more light. More light=better growth.

You won't get hot spots from CFLs which is something I've heard guys say about using foil. With HID's you will but CFLs don't have the intensity to burn leaves. Barely have enough to grow leaves. :)

You're absolutely right! Never got around to it because I never really seen a way to make one. But I certainly have my fair share of beer cans around here  I'll see if I can concocted something tonight. Thanks for looking out for me!

Great update Pidge !!
My first read of the morning and I feel better already !!
Entertaining, Informative and thorough.:bravo:
I'm hearin ya on the amount of time it takes, I seem to lose half a day , between, the garden and doing an update !!

Thanks Chenzi!

Glad you liked it! Enjoy your day!

Heya pidge,, i don't read everything, but when I see something I can comment on I jump in, i know you don't mind,, so,, as for defoliation,, i get Jorge and you and others, but, when you ask "why take the leaves off?",,well, I have one reason, just to mention, for bug control, so i can see ever so much clearer what is going on in the canopy. That is why I do, besides the fact that defoliation keeps my plants compacter, easier to foliar feed, and much much more maintainable. Each situation is unique, and that is mine.

Cheers pidge,,,:Namaste:

I like the scissors! :)

Looking very good in the grow room Pigeons! They all look healthy, so you must be treating them right.

Oh, about the wires pulling out of the soil. I saw someone mention (I can't remember who, and it was only yesterday!) that you can use safety pins attached to fabric pots, and then use wire/ties/string/etc to tie your branches to them. This way you don't damage the fabric and the plants can't muster up enough strength to pull the wire out! Just thought I'd throw that out there.

re: Rex Pigeons Flies the Coop & Goes Perpetual in 2015

Nivek, you're a gem!

I understand removing leaves for other reasons. I to, even remove leaves that are problematic to my grow. I'm finding with my training, that the girls are very close to the dirt and their leaves tend to get droopy and die quicker. In these cases I think it's only appropriate to take preventative measures. Same with bugs.

Where I think I should clarify myself is that I don't believe in removing leaves for light penetration purposes. Or defoliating to leave nothing but buds. This practice I believe is flawed.

As indoor growers we have the ability to control every aspect of the environment. It's only fair to do so to enhance the performance of your plant.

Nivek, you da man! Thank for pippin in!
