So, today I ventured into the newly opened hydro shop in the city in which I work. This is around 45 minutes drive from my home. Previously the closest brick and mortar establishment was a hour and a half away. While I was nervous, as not ever visiting such said establishment, overall I believe I had a good experience while there.
I've been using the Botanicare Kind Expert Hydro regiment but without Hydro Shield because Perfect Gardens didn't carry it. I didn't have enough of the Kind Bloom for tonight, hence needing to get something fast.
I go in really hoping to see some leds on display. Nope. But, to their credit, they had Lumetek ballasts and Raptor XXXL reflectors. They also had the largest err...T5 or T8 flouro setups I've every seen. Like 4'x8'. The had all sorts off manufactured DWC and Ebb and Flow premade setups. Huge Botaincare trays; mini split ac's and name brand fans and dehumidifiers.
While the actual show room size was a little small, I'd guess 20'x40', they had every nutrient company I've heard of represented. House and Garden, General Hydroponics, Advanced, Botanicare, Fox Farm, Humbolt, Dutch Masters, Black Label, etc. As I said ^ I've been using Botanicare Kind. Well, they have just about everything from Botanicare except the kind. I'd order from Perfect Gardens but they only offer a three liter trio pack-Base, Veg, and Bloom. I don't use the veg so it's a waste of around $20/order.
What the brick and mortar place did have was Botanicare Pure Blend Pro. This is supposed to be organic. So I grabbed some of that and a bottle of the Hydro Shield which is just a liquid version of the healthy micro organisms..mychos.
So I really liked that place. I ended up striking a 15 minute conversation with the owner. They opened mid November. I asked how business was treating him. He said that they vastly underestimated the market. Told me he spends half of his time stocking inventory and another store is in the works. I don't have the money to currently spend anymore meanwhile. but I think I want to stop buy tomorrow and window shop. I barely looked around, saw coco coir, Hydron, and rock wool cubes. I need a better source for course perlite. That's cheap, they may had some.
So yeah. Never been to a hydro shop. I've always heard of others' bad experiences. I still support or sponsor Perfect Garden's 100%, JJ is going to be getting a K of my business in the next few months, possibly more if he gets some of the newest goodies. But, in retrospect, I had a good time. Being able to see stuff in person versus on a web page or in the back of a magazine garners myself a little bit more satisfaction.
