I find it hard to believe it's been nearly three months since I've last posted. Time flies. So I'll do my best to get everyone caught up with what's been going on.
So a bit of bad news. I lost that last crop that was going in the 3.5 gallon Hempys. I think it was caused by a number of factors. It was a very hot summer. 126 F for two days, over two months of 100 F + temps. I bought a bag of #3 perlite. Some of the chunks were over 1" across. This was huge compared to the stuff from Home Schmeepo. The vermiculite could not mix sufficiently. And, I think I veged them too long. One day, about three weeks from harvest they went from looking good to dead-over night. So I went back to the 2 liters because it's what I know.
I had a friend stop growing. He gave me a brand new Lighthouse Hydro 4'x4' tent that is my new flowering tent. He also gave me all the plants he had. At the time I thought this was good because I was giving him clones. I was hoping to find another one of the Purple Kushes in the mix. Dumb ass didn't label them when he transplanted them so neither one of us had a clue to the strains. Bad thing was they came with 2 spotted spider mites. I sprayed them twice with Sierra Natural 217 and watered with 209 but it didn't kill them all. I was just over my infestation of some other type of mite and these showed up and for the first time in the flowering tent. I'm still unhappy about it but life moves on. I think I own nearly every organic miticide on the market and keep rotating the applications. I'm winning but the war isn't over.
Looks like all the new plants my friend gave me were TGA Marion Berry Kush. Included was a mother plant in a three gallon pot with Promix that I immediately through into flower. There was also, I think 5 in straight perlite Hempys, another large one that I have going in a 2 gallon pot for use as a mother, and two in 1/2 gallon pots with Promix. I'm going to get a bag of Promix so that I can transplant them into larger pots and flower those other two out.
I'm not familiar with Marion Berry Kush but it seems to get great reviews. I broke my nose about a month ago. My sense of smell is only about 50%. I just get a "dank" odor coming from it. She's quite the beast, probably about the 5th largest plant I've grown indoor. I have her staked and super cropped the largest colas. Looks like I'll get around two zips dried from her. A very pretty plant covered in trics. I'd take pictures of here but that'll have to wait for the lights to come on.
I'm still rocking my pheno of Holy Grail Kush. She's still my favorite. Still have my Blue Blood. I have around six of them flushing right now. I bought new genetics. I was really looking forward to Next Generation's Dynamite, an indica grapefruit. She died shortly after forming the second set of leaves. No idea why.
I had another one called Punky Lion, Chronic x Matanuska Thunder. I popped that bean like every other one in damp paper towels in a Ziploc bag. Planted here after she cranked, then nothing-just disappointment. The other new strains I have going are The OG #18; one of the Holy Grail Kush's parents, Cali Connection's G13 Hashplant, Dinafem's OG Kush, Florida OG from DNA Genetics or reserva Privada (supposed to be the original OG Kush), and a free seed from Paradise called Nebula. The latter is supposed to be near 100% sativa. Not my favorite but I'm willing to give it a try.
I took one clone from each of the new strains but they all died in the cloner. Not very encouraging considering the other three strains in there had 100% success. May have been do to their young age or that they were taken from the very top of the plant. I'll be cleaning out the cloner shortly and am going to give them another try. If I can't get them to clone they'll go into Promix and be flowered out. At least I'll get a small taste from each one.
So now I have the old 2'x4' tent for more veg space. That will be nice. I brought an Italian parsley and a rosemary plant in from the cold and would like to keep them going. I think what I'm going to do is, would have to be one at a time, buy two-maybe eventually three Mars Hydro Pro Series Cree 128s for the flowering tent. Then put my cool tube HID in the 4'x4' veg tent with a MH bulb. Then I'd move all the CFL's and half the florescents into the 2'x4' tent. Sounds like a plan to me.
I'm still running Botanicare Pro Blend organics. I'm not quite 100% organic as I'm working on using up some older bloom boosters. My goal is to, by Christmas be 100% organic and have two of the Pro Series lights. My local hydro shop doesn't carry the complete hydro line, neither does Perfect Gardens. I was able to find it in an all-inclusive kit online so that's the route I'm going to go.
Prior to ordering the last beans I mentioned it to another friend. He wanted me to pick up a Northern Lights with the agreement that I'd start the mother and keep him in clones. I went with Sensi because, from what I can tell, they have the original. Well, he up and took off to Houston for work. Last I talked to him he changed his mind. I haven't heard from him in two months. I'm staring at the package now. It's tempting...
The order also came free another Nebula, a Paradise Dela Haze which I'm not interested in and six regular Afganis. I'll pop the Afganis, it's one of my favs and I regret killing it, but not now. I'm going to wait until I make some room in the 4'x4' tent and have the 2'x4' tent going.
I'll take the Blue Bloods down Wednesday. I want to give them a second Clearex flush tonight. Other than lack of pictures I think that about sums everything up. I'll get some pics up tonight
