I always heard if you take clones of clones forever eventually the plants kind of fades in potency. But that was just what i heard on the street. Not sure. Good question.:roorrip:

If you think about what's going on with cloning it should clear up.

Taking a cut is an exact copy of the genetics.

The result is an exact copy. You can't change the genetics.

Genetic manipulation (GMO) without a laboratory and special equipment would be to select mutants and breed for them over several generations. Humans have done that with tomatoes, wheat barley etc.

Humans have also cloned the same genetics for many many generations (of humans). It works.

That all said... I have a clone now that has grown out a mutation. She started growing normally and growing fresh roots. I transplanted her into soil and right into flower cycle. She grew normal leaves for 1-2 sets then started single leaf leaves and never stopped. She's stunted (not very tall) and seems to have just kind of stopped growing but she's flowering.

From my looking around there was some research done at Oxford about this very thing. Turns out stress can introduce genetic changes. I see that in my clone I'm flowering now. It's not normal and certainly not anything to worry about as long as we keep with a normal routine.

Here's a link to an article about clones and it mentions the Oxford study which I read. With new genetic tools we are able to see much more than what was possible even 10 years ago.

We are pretty much NOW coming out of the dark ages of genetics.
