PeeJay's Perpetual Organic Homebrewed Soil - Stealth Cabinet And Greenhouse Grow

Here's the details:

Lower fan: 1st squeeze 11.75. Second 19.5

Mid fan: 1st 13.25, 2nd 9.5

Sugar fan: 14.25 2nd 13.5

Tossed the 9.5 and 19.5 True average is 13.18. I rounded up a bit on my initial report to make it an even .25

Looking at the small graduations on the scale is difficult. I did my best to be objective making the readings when it comes to 1/10ths. There may be a minor reporting bias because I wanted it to be high. I was aware of that before I took readings and did my best to restrain myself and go low.

That high reading from the lower fan was probably lack of fluid. I've done as many as 5 readings from the same wad and it'll rise dramatically at the end, for instance 12-13-15-18-24.

It's odd that the second reading on the midfan was so low - yeah, that was an anomoly.

Yep, that's a solid 13+.

Thanks for the data! I haven't tested different areas of the plant yet. My initial research led me to believe that brix doesn't vary much by location, within reason, and your numbers tend to bear that out. The newer, presumably more vigorous, sugar fans read only a little higher.

I took some more squeezing with a revised method today. Three leaves from various parts were wadded into a ball and stuffed into the clipped-off corner of a ziplock bag. The ball was then enclosed by plastic on three sides. I placed the capsule into a C-clamp and crunched it down. Lots of juice. I got three good reading all right around 14.5! I expected it would go up as I got closer to watering time.

The Darkstar is on day 45 of flower and has 3-4 weeks to go since I want a couch-lock insomnia medicine from this all indica cross. Here are a few bud-porn shots from this morning. Starting to see some degredation in the fan leaves.

Very vivid PJ.

So PeeJay, I am going to be ordering seeds. I am looking at strains and have done a lot of reading. It is still daunting to me. I also need insomnia medication as well as heavy pain. I can adjust how much I feel by how much I smoke. That said, I am going to grow outside this summer. I need a mostly if not all Indica, heavy resin, not much taller than 4 feet, 3 is better. Could you make a recommendation on a good strain for a beginner outside in the ground grow? I'll also be growing in containers, as well.

I'm not sure how the darkstar would do outside, but it would seem to be what you are after. I'd be concerned with it outside in humid or wet conditions since the colas are extremely dense - could lead to rot issues. Indicas typically come from areas where the fall is dry and the spring is wet.

The Mama-mia from my first grow is mostly indica (mazar-i-sharif x early skunk.) It has a reputation for being a great outdoor strain, easy to grow and a quick finisher. It didn't meet my insomnia needs as well as I hoped, but that is probably my fault. I should have let it go another week or so and amber up some more - beginner's mistake. It was potent enough, just not what I wanted. I would recommend it highly if you let it flower for 9-10 weeks. I swapped half of that out for some really nice cherry pie that has been an outstanding sleep aid. Several folks on here have grown it and can give you feedback on if they think it would do well outside. If I run into an outdoor cherry pie grow I'll send you a pointer to the journal.

As far as height is concerned most indicas are going to stay fairly low - especially if you train them into bushes in veg. Hope that helps.

What is fall like where you're at? Is it a damp time of year?

Here's my weather. I'm on the same level with New Orleans, but west. In March, spring actually arrives. April and May we have our rains, maybe (bad drought now) and by May's end, it is 100 degrees until somewhere in late Sept, early October or later! We have a very long hot growing season or two shorter seasons for mostly vegetables. Dry, dry, dry summer. Sunny in the night. I have an area about 20 feet long by 5 feet wide for my garden. I want to start seeds soon. Like, this week. I'll look into the strains you mentioned. I love you guys!

OK, you are right around 30 degrees north then. If you follow that line around the globe it goes right through Pakistan and the Hindu Cush. I selected several mazar based seeds when I ordered since that region mirrors the altitude and longitude where I live. It made sense.

If you search for the average rain-fall, temperature and humidity for where you live - mostly interested in September and October - that would be useful information. Also, your altitude. It would make sense to find a strain that wasn't too mixed up and based on genetics that thrive in your fall conditions with similar longitude, humidity, and temperatures as the plants finish. Something close to a landrace strain.

If you PM me the average temps, humidity, and rainfall + altitude for your area, I'll look for some strains that would do well. I like stuff like that!

Window shopping, The Doctor from greenhouse seeds stood out as a possibility. I'm liking the southern indian genetics in there since you are quite far south of where most indicas grow wild. I'm sure you will grow more than one variety, Faerie. It would be worth it to take The Doctor for a spin, probably.

You are correct, 30 degrees. Altitude 780 feet (238 m) above sea level. Hills, no mountains. Not humid usually. Usually pretty dry in fall, with some rains, but I can provide protection so it is not an issue. This won't be an unattended grow. Yes, more than one strain, but I will build up as I go along. Ultimately, I want to find a strain great for the closet and greenhouse, both. Verrry exciting! Doesn't take much.

Been neglecting to udate the seedling light distance experiment. Day 15 for the three little ones:

Here's a couple of shots of the white panthers. WP1, the BAR special, got off to a rough start with the seed jacket and also had some heat stress issues. In the name of science I left her right under the lights. You can see that despite the slow start and heat stress she caught up to WP1 5-6" under the light. WP 2 was moved up a couple of inches two days ago. WP1 was lowered an inch. No use continuing to bomb her with light if she's stressing.

The Sage n' Sour has kicked both their asses and has remained 2-3" under the lights the whole time. She is easily twice as big as the Panthers. I expect WP2 would be a similar size if it had been 2-3" under the lights.

OG is 25 days old. She is going to get transplanted into flowering soil and go 12/12 in about a week. I want to keep her small. She is growing at a furious rate.

One more cool thing! Here are pictures of the OG from 10 days ago when she was transplanted into the homebrew dirt and from today. You can see the "plastic look" on the leaves in today's photo - a high brix atribute. There is a very healthy waxy cuticle providing protection from viruses, pests, and unwanted fungi. The Sage n' Sour is going to go into homebrew later today or tomorrow. We'll see if she does the same thing.

Oh man, PeeJay, you're putting some growers to shame. They're all gorgeous!

You're very kind, Graytail. Thank you. That one Panther ain't so pretty, but it was an experiment. I should've moved it down an inch or so when I saw the heat stress a week ago. She has lots of time to recover. My plan for the Panthers is to take three clones from each. The clones will quickly move into flower mode in 6 x 2 gallon Geo-Pots - sea of green style. That won't happen until the S n' S has done it's thing 16-18 weeks from now.

I met a friend for lunch last week and we burned a blunt of the WP before heading into the restaurant. He was very enthusiastic about it, and it wasn't grown in the homebrew. He described it as, "really clean and clear headed even though I'm totally baked." It's such a great everyday smoker. I intend to keep my favorite as a mother long term.

That last set of leaves on the OG are eleven bladed. :)

Coming this weekend on PeeJays DIY high-brix adventures; I'm going to brew up some foliar spray using newly growing dandelion green tops and a fermentation technique. Dandelions have an appropriate calcium/phosphorous ratio, and due to the deep roots are also rich in other micro minerals. By selecting and macerating only new growth, this method is also supposed to extract plant growth hormones and un-denatured enzymes. After fermenting for a few days the resulting liguid is stabilized with additional sugars. It gets diluted 1/500 for foliar feeding. Should be a fun experiment.

In the mean time here are a few pictures of lady Maude. She's a good dog. I inserted a hand in a few shots for scale but it didn't really work. There are several foot long packed colas even though she's a short little bush. The colas continue down quite a ways below the hand. Couple more weeks to go.
