PeeJay's Neophyte Breeding Adventure

Not much I can do about it one way or another. There isn't much room to move the lights higher. I figure I'll leave things the way they are for the next two weeks unless I see major too close caranage. At that point I'll thin things out with a defol and raise the lights as high as I can get them. They are going bonkers. 20 days ago before the pot-up they looked like this Cheese is front and center. One of the Darkstars is behind it and one to the right. Not sure which Darkstar is in the tent.

I couldn't find calcium bentonite. Azomite is not for sale in this state due to labeling regulations. The panca clay I was using isn't sold retail anymore. So, I got volcanic basalt dust, glacial rock powder, and oyster shell. Should do the trick.

Awful hot outside to go mix dirt. I think I'll have a siesta instead.

Picture the tightly closed apical tip cluster reaching straight - or not so straight - up to the light. If it's bent, one side will get a blast of light while the other side doesn't. Those edges grow faster as they unfold and presto twisto - curly leaves.

... or not ... seemed like a good explanation. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I want what you're smoking Graytail. :laughtwo:

Siesta. My daughter just left me with strict instructions to sleep. Oh, that it were that easy. :laughtwo: you've tempted me now though PeeJay. I'll give it a try. Earbuds, music.... Ahhhhh, Clapton dreaming of changing the world. That might work.

Is it excess light or heat that would cause this?

I think this happens when a LED is too close because the diodes are different colors. When the light is too close the spectrums don't blend and parts of the plant get hit by less than ideal wavelength blends.

Good call PeeJay. I'd bet you're right.

Now I'm in a complete spin.... I just won the complete line of SNS nutes in gallon size...:yahoo: I love free stuff... but I had just decided I was going to go with the PJ soil only but now I have to try the SNS nutes... soooo after I have them and see what is in it... I'm going to be back at your door step asking you what to do.... Just thought I would give you heads up in case you want to run for the hills......:circle-of-love:

The 144x5 can only go up about three or four inches unless I remove the yoyos and mount it right to the crossbar at the top of the tent. If I do that I can add about 8"

I was down to 8" above a cola in my flower room, so I removed the yoyos and ran my HPS hanger wires direct through the ceiling hooks. That bought me about 6".
I'm going to finish here, 14" above the cola.

Hey hey PeeJay :)

I've got a small bag of oyster shell left over here. I used to sprinkle it around for the chickens, helps their digestive system.

Would it hinder or help to add it to the rest of the soil mix I have? Or maybe just save it for the next mix?

I dunno how much a small bag is or how much dirt you are dealing with that is not in pots... Oyster shell is almost all calcium carbonate but has some phosphorous. The dolomite has you covered there, I think.

Okay, I'll just put it back on the shelf for something later on then. Why mess with the soil now. LOL

Hope things are going well there. :)

Good morning PJ.... I hope you are having a blessed and green day....:green_heart:.....:circle-of-love:

It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood and I hope it is in yours too!

Yes it is PeeJay. Not as pretty as yours, but that will improve with the new cycle. :battingeyelashes:

With such a wealth of knowledge in one spot I would be an idiot to not sub! Just been reading through the journal and I've already learned so much! So thank you!

Sorry to hear about your mum, TKA revisions are quite hard on the body. One good thing your mum has got going for her is she already knows what to expect on the recovery side of things as she's been through it once before. Wishing her the best of luck!

PeeJay, what is your thoughts on Fox Farm Ocean Forest for the growth of Autos? Trying my hand at a Blueberry and Moby Dick auto grow.

I can't wait to see what becomes of the breeding project, I'll be watching very carefully picking up knowledge as the grow progresses.

Wow Witty, I looked through your Blue Widow journal and the FFOF did you pretty well. Keep an eye on Denise. She has a side by side with two strains - one of each in FFOF and one in the light starter version of my soil.

FFOF is good dirt but can be too rich for many young plants. Part of that is strain dependent. You seem to have a good knack for watering and general care. Going forward with the Moby Dick and Blueberry you may find that they do not tolerate the FFOF as well as the Blue Widow did. Time will tell.

The goal with autos is to get them as big as possible with strong root systems before they hit sexual maturity. The same is true if a person is growing photoperiod strains under a 11/13 light schedule. Lots of times in strong soils the plants will stall around week 2 or just flat out under-perform out of the gate. I'm advocating a much more nutrient lean starter soil for the first three weeks for maximum early growth.

Unfortunately Witty, my grow is a stark reminder of the truth in what PeeJay is saying. Since I'm taking his advice on my next cycle I anticipate much better results.

Thank you very much for the advice! I'll for sure keep an eye on the rate of growth. I know the Moby Dick is suppose to have a very vigorous grow pattern even for an auto. I was planning on staying away from adding any nutes to them and just focus on LST and water with plan water. I will take your advice and watch Denise's grow. Thank you again.
