PantyRaid's 1st Grow - With LST!

Not really, in fact some growers like to mix up spectrums during vegging and flowering. However, with only 46 watts/2,400 lumens of 2700K, I think what you really need is more 2700K rather than 125 watts/7,000 lumens of 6400K. I would either purchase at least 4 more 23 watt/1,200 lumens CFLs or if you really want to go with the HydroFarm fixture, I would purchase the 125 watt/2700K CFL bulb in addition to the fixture and 125 watt/6400K CFL bulb combination at a total cost of under $100. For your small grow area just one of these 125 watt bulbs would suffice and you would have the bulbs necessary for both vegging and flowering.

I never said that it doesn't matter, just that some growers like to mix the spectrums up rather than run a specific spectrum for each stage of growth. The vegetation stage performs best with lighting between 5000-6500+K, whereas the flowering stage performs best with lighting between 2500-3500K. Personally, I don't mix it up and run between 5000-6400K during vegging and strictly 2700K during flowering. If you do decide to mix it up it is preferable to have at least half of the light be in the higher K range for vegging or the lower K range for flowering.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up! I guess what I wonder is *how much* of a difference it makes. I can buy that reflector and bulb for $50, or buy another 2700k bulb for around $50. For this one, very small grow, is it even worth the extra $50 in the long run?

I also took some pics of my space! I may try to go to a garden store - would those have the kind of CFL & Reflector kit I'm looking for? Home Depot maybe?

Thanks for reading!

IMHO, a dedicated grow store would more likely have this type of lighting over a general garden store, but it doesn't hurt to check it out. That fixture is the perfect size for your 1x2 grow space and would work in a bigger space with an additional fixture as well as some sidelighting. In the long run, if you continue with CFL, and especially if you enlarge your grow space, it would make sense to get this fixture and bulbs. If you want to pursue HID or LED lighting, then get some more smaller bulbs, along with some Y adapters, and get your ighting up to 100 total watts, 4,000-6,000 total lumens. Your plants will love the improvements.

Thanks, reading it now!

Ok, so the bulbs I have in there now : Ecosmart 780-758 (ES5R4232) Details | FindTheBest

There are two of them. It's clearly not enough and I'm so ashamed for neglecting the pizza!!!!

The fixture I was looking at is a 125w CFL bulb that's 6700k. Does it really matter if the color is warm or not? I mean, at the level I'm growing at?

My space is about 1 foot deep, 2 feet wide, and maybe 6 feet vertically.

Thanks so much for all your help!

It matters PR, 50/50% is a good mix for you...half cool and half warm, then you can use the lights for veg and flower. I have a friend who made a setup using cfls.....he built the hood and it's really cool how he did it. I'm trying to get him to start a journal and showcase the lights....they are pretty cool! OK pr, no one answered so I will; plants under artificial light and all light for that matter grow more purposefully under light spectrums that mimmick the suns natural light frequencies. These factors are a result of the natural occurrences in nature...the plants are genetically predisposed to thrive under the same conditions thru evolution or whatever. So, in the spring and long days of summer the sun is at a point where its rays pass thru less atmosphere than they do in the fall, which makes tham "whiter", or cooler....or as the days get shorter, the angle of the suns rays changes and passes through more atmosphere. The elements in the atmosphere affect the rays, and as they pass through the longer distance of atmosphere they change to a redder......or what we refer to as "warmer" light color.

I found a hydroponic store and bought a light! It's the "fluorowing" by hydrogrow. It fits perfectly in my space!!! I let up the other lights on the side, but I don't think they're doing much, they're so dim compared to this new light!

Once I had the pizza settled in there, I wrapped the whole thing in foil to increase the light. Hope she doesn't grow right into it!

While I was setting up the lights, I took some pictures of the biggest cola. It's huge! Can't wait until it really fills out and get dense. Anybody have a guess as to how much this will yield?

I'm really excited about the addition of the new light. Thanks for the advice! It's 6200k, but I figure I'll be able to save up for a 2700k 200w bulb pretty soon after I harvest this one!

Thanks so much! I'm pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie! I can't wait until I can really see her reacting to it!

One thing I noticed is that this light is much warmer, but the fan seems to be doing a good job of dissipating it

I was hoping for an ounce, so I'll be pretty psyched if that's where it ends up. The buds aren't very dense (yet), but I'm hoping they'll plump up especially with the new light

One thing that is weird is that even on some of the big colas, the stems are very very thing. Not sure how the buds are holding themselves up. Such a leggy plant. I know better for next time!

Yea, you will notice with certain strains that their bud development far exceeds the caarying capacity it can hold. But in most cases this is due to a rough start in veg, when the grower provides a more suitable environment later on in flowering, the plant can really show its true potential....AND this is what will probably happen here with you.

You invest in keeping your plant happy, and she'll just want to throw all her dankness at you ;)

Also I forgot to mention, if your stalks start to give under the sheer weight of the swelling, you can tie some string around the the stalks and tie it to something above the plant for added support, and to make sure light is evenly penetrated through the whole cola!

Oh no! A bus fell off while I was watering it.... should I quick dry it and smoke it tonight or long dry it and wait?

LMFAO! What the hell kind of weed are you growing PR? Or better yet what kind are you smoking? ;) ;)

I quick dry those little buds to check the progress of my ladies. 20 minutes on warm in the oven (150-170 degrees) and then let it cool off and enjoy!

doh!!!!

Doesn't it burn away the THC and make it taste like shit?

I'm thinking of using this steam microwave method. Have you tried it?

How Do I Quick-Dry My Buds?

Also, the bud that broke off is kinda big!

 How did this happen??

I've never tried that steam method, but it looks legitimate. But I also quick dry my smaller nugs in the oven at the lowest setting for half an hour. It will taste bad because of all the chlorophyll (and nutrients) still in the leaves :laughtwo:

I vape the end results and there is no bad taste so I don't worry too much about that.
