Oz's First Grow - Pyramid Tut In Coco

Hi mate. No, didn't need to buddy. I used the canna stuff which has already been washed and buffered. From what I understand pretty much all graded coco (including Botanicare) is pre washed and totally inert. Funnily enough, I just bought a 70ltr "brick". It is awesome :). It's compacted and actually says on the bag "will react like a tampon when wet".......they didn't lie :) I chopped a bit off to fill a 5ltr pot, poured some PH'd water on it and it literally came to life :) I'll be using it again :)

Hi mate....alls good my friend. I think you'll LOVE the coco buddy.

I didn't use perlite but thats only because the shop was sold out lol :)
Ok, I'll recommend an 1" of clay pebbles on the bottom of your pots, then a further 1" of perlite. This helps with drainage as you know but has an added benefit of drawing air down to the roots too. Finally I'd mix the remaining perlite with the coco 1-4 (20% perlite/80% coco) again for drainage but it also attracts unused salts and helps keep the coco fresh. As you know, I "just water" every 4th feed, that's purely because I don't have the perlite cleaning up for me :) Nute wise, I made a huge mistake early on by feeding too late (caused massive stunting) use 1/5th strength after a week of break ground (if you're using seeds)....give it a week then go 1/4 strength. After that it's play it by ear mate :)
I hope this helps buddy. :) and the greenest of green to you my mate

Thank you very much OZ for that great info :thumb:...I'm a busy bee right now but I'll be back in a bit (hopefully before you're off to kip :))

I shall give it a go once moved Im sure. I used a brick mixed in with the soil for Gert. I have the kit, the ppm meter and stuff. Its just the new nutes id need :(

D&S Growology works with soil, soilless or hydro mediums so a change isn't really necessary LA.

You're very welcome :) Hope it goes well and I'm sure it will :)

LA mate, all, and I do mean ALL the guys I know who grow up here use coco.....that's why I did lol. It's so simple. Like you, I've got all the gear....PPM and PH meters etc....but you know what? I don't use them lol. I fill my res with water, syringe out the recommended dose of nutes etc and add them. Then I use litmus paper to PH it (well, my son does coz I'm colour blind lol). To be honest, we don't really need it because I KNOW 2mls of PH down added to 30ltrs in my res gets the PH pretty much bang on lol :) You sir will love coco and do AMAZING things with it :). Canna nutes are pretty cheap too. 10lts of A+B (20ltrs in total) coms to £55.00 and mixed at 40mls (each) per 10 ltrs of water goes a long way :)

Well I live up here n I grow in soil lol
Wouldn't mind having a coco run like.
Only thing stopping me is I don't like to fix something that ain't broken if ya get me
That said though wen I get my gifted D+S (thanks LA) il do a 50/50 run half plants soil half coco

That'll be cool Alex buddy. Never know you might even convince to try soil :) Like you though I'm "if it ain't bust don't mend it" too :) And you're NOT up here you southern/scouse/jock lol :)

Oz, coincidentally, I just recv'd 5 Ki's of coco today(from India),

I'm hoping that your "tribe" :circle-of-love: will kindly reply to this picture & let me know that this product is OK. thanks mate!

Thank you for letting me poach here!! :high-five: Hope all is well in the Tundra, we are on fire (literally) here today, 100 km away , 24*C 4% humidity.

Hey buddy....looks good mate :) Just check that it's buffered mate. If its the compressed stuff it will be :) I'm sure you'll love it and it'l give GREAT results :)

Alex....you're SO far south you eat Jellied Eels :) lmao

Hey Trich, check out BIDs (Big Irish Dude) threads. He really is a coco master mate :) Also he's in the states so familiar with all the nutes etc available :)

Yup...the coco I got comes double washed, buffered and aged...also the coco and fert I got said to fertilize with every watering...I'm excited about this...I used to have trouble with plain watering because my well water is very hard (high calcium)...I have tried feed, water, feed, water and water, water, feed, water water feed. This feed, feed, feed will work much better for me because I mix my nutes with distilled water and I can only get an accurate PH if I add nutrients...I'm excited :)

That's great buddy.....I'm buzzing for you :) As I said to Trich.....B.I.D is a god mate. Coco is his baby. I'll grab a link but his thread is called "Lets talk coco" lol :)

Trich Reps given in OZ,

now I have to find the 5 star thing, not to be confused with the single repstar,

:high-five: to the :circle-of-love:

Lol....Cheers Trichster, you're a funny, funny guy :)

Guys, what follows has been lifted "en mass" off BIDs journal. With his generous permission I must add :)

Hello and welcome! The most basic way to use Coco is just plain Coco of a medium grade not pith(dust) nor the super chunky I like to but 1 of each and mix equally, perlite is not nesessary with this mix, however perlite is good too ,I add it to the pith 50/50 is good, add some garden lime I like "Epsoma" from ho dee pot in the green & white bag, I add a tbps per gallon of medium, that will satisfy the Coco and provide CA,mg, to your plants, as far as nutes go you can use about anything out there from totally synthetic to full on vegan organics, you will need nutes shortly after germination, coco has none and is almost completely inert,
Coco this way is just passive hydro, if you go with synthetic you will need to adjust Ph check ppms etc, 5.8 is the target but it can be good to let it drift a little both ways as some nutes are taken up better at different points, it's good to water till you get about 10% runoff this helps prevent salt build up, I don't really have a recommendation for nutes I pretty much make my own organic recipe, but I do warn against getting caught up in the hype with some of the big name brands there are no magic potions ,stick to a basic 2 or 3 part will do nicely, general hydro looks good, they have a organic "go"box that looks really good,
Our sponsor doggett&Simpson has a nice 3 part that's a synth/organic hybrid system that's working well on a plant I'm using as a test subject, ,and the starter kit is priced nice for what you get and it's cannabis specific! And if you want to discuss high brix in Coco let me know and I'll get into that with you, hope this helps and welcome to the fold, growing medicine will forever change you for the better
