Outdoor Growing With BeezLuiz

So much lank on the summer grow! I'd be looking forward to burying those on upcan.
They certainly will go an inch or two deeper upon upcan. It's not surprising that they are so lanky. Since the winter grow is taking so much longer than I expected, and still using my Nextlight setup at 12/12, I was forced into utilizing my much smaller wimpier light setup for these summer seedlings. I'm confident that these will end up being big, wide, and bushy by the time they are ready for flowering. :)
Should be interesting to watch that transition. I'd put my money on early flower but I 100% hope I'm wrong.
Yeah, I'm with you on that. Last year I bought a few clones and didn't realize the dispensary had them under 24hr lights. When I brought them home, I put them under 18/6 light setup for a couple weeks. They all started premature flowering. I put this China Cat clone under 21/3 setup yesterday and will move to 18/6 today. Then 15.5/8.5 in the next day or so, and then outdoors.

Photo dump alert:
I pulled out my wi-fi digital microscope to take some close-ups of the buds on my winter grow. Getting close, but still more clear than cloudy. Maybe one more week... maybe two. They are still drinking regularly. I took a few "under leaf" shots because they were so frosty.

Damn, those Obamas are frosty ones...!
Miss Ashley ain't no slouch, either... 👍

I found a few aphids on Miss Ashley!
I caught them early (I think). They were only on one bud stalk - just a few and I didn't see any more anywhere else. Out of an abundance of caution, I chopped the cola before they had a chance to spread to the rest of the plant and the other two plants.
I trimmed it and rinsed it, and will consider it a tester bud to try in a few days.

I think Miss Ashley still has another week to go. I'm starting to see a few ambers near the tops, but still lots of clear.

The summer grow is on! :yahoo:

I had a couple hours this morning to work on the garden so I was able to get my two plants into their final containers. This summer I'm growing a Sensi Cheese that I won from @CannaPot a couple years ago. I'm also growing a China Cat clone that I was forced to buy from a dispensary due to some bad luck with other seeds sprouting.

I was concerned that the clone was going to premature flower since the dispensary was keeping their inventory at 24hr of light. The first day I bought the clone, I set my lights to 21/3. The next day to 18/6 and kept it there for two days, before moving the lights to 15.5/8.5. A couple days later it went outside full time. So far, at day #11, it does not appear to be going into flower. :woohoo: Today it went into a 20 gallon fiber pot filled with FFOF, peat moss, and perlite.

This summer, I'm getting on the SIP bandwagon (Sub Irrigation Planter). For starters I bought a commercially available planter from Earthbox. If it does well, I might make a few of my own for future grows. I actually bought two - one for my Sensi Cheese, and another for a couple tomatoes. Setup was pretty straightforward - just 4 pieces (pic shows only 3, but there is also a mulch cover):
The reservoir holds approx 2.75 gallons of water/nutes and the container holds approx 15 gallon of soil.

I wanted good wicking action and was afraid the FFOF might not have enough peat moss to accomplish that, so I added more peat moss and more perlite before adding it to the container. I first added the soil to the two corners that will act as wicks. I packed it down a bit and then filled the rest of the container.

Then got the hole ready prior to adding the plastic cover over the top.

The cover went on next and a hole was cut into it where the plant was to be placed.

I wanted to bury the Sensi Cheese an extra two inches since it got pretty lanky in the solo cup, but the SIP planter wasn't deep enough for me to get it that deep.

My winter grow is finally ready for harvest, but I've been so busy lately, I probably won't be able to begin harvesting until Monday or Tuesday. Lots of grandson babysitting duty lately -- he's a lot of fun, but we're so exhausted afterwards. :laughtwo:
Oh, he and his parents just pulled up - gotta go! I'll update on the winter grow soon. :peace:

:ciao::popcorn:...

SIPs sure seem to be the hot trend! This Earthbox looks like a nice and easy set up, probably more my flavor without having to build from scratch. I took shop class in HS, but you’d never know it with my lack of building savvy/confidence. :laughtwo:
Glad you were able to get your clone adjusted well to the sun’s schedule with no issues. Summer grow is off to a great start!

SIPs are known for having pretty robust stems so I'll bet that extra initial stem length will make great source material for one of your peace pipes. You know, to celebrate your first SIP grow!

Harvest update: Miss Ashley.
Yesterday I took the axe to Miss Ashley. It was 161 days from sprout - almost a half of a year! I flipped it 80 days ago, so after subtracting out 10 days before it started to flower, I say about 10 weeks of flower time.

The trichomes were mostly cloudy with some clear and some amber. I took a tester bud from 7 days earlier and tried it out yesterday. It was pretty dang good, so I feel fine about harvesting yesterday.

Here's some final shots before the chop:

And afterwards:

It took me about 2.5 hrs start-to-finish, which is a "blink of an eye" compared to my usual harvests. I'm guessing maybe 2.5 oz after dry. I'm fine with that since I pruned heavily to encourage quality over quantity.

Congrats on a sweet harvest, Beez!
She's as pretty in the pan as she was growing- :thumb:
