The summer grow is on!
I had a couple hours this morning to work on the garden so I was able to get my two plants into their final containers. This summer I'm growing a Sensi Cheese that I won from
@CannaPot a couple years ago. I'm also growing a China Cat clone that I was forced to buy from a dispensary due to some bad luck with other seeds sprouting.
I was concerned that the clone was going to premature flower since the dispensary was keeping their inventory at 24hr of light. The first day I bought the clone, I set my lights to 21/3. The next day to 18/6 and kept it there for two days, before moving the lights to 15.5/8.5. A couple days later it went outside full time. So far, at day #11, it does not appear to be going into flower.
Today it went into a 20 gallon fiber pot filled with FFOF, peat moss, and perlite.
This summer, I'm getting on the SIP bandwagon (Sub Irrigation Planter). For starters I bought a commercially available planter from Earthbox. If it does well, I might make a few of my own for future grows. I actually bought two - one for my Sensi Cheese, and another for a couple tomatoes. Setup was pretty straightforward - just 4 pieces (pic shows only 3, but there is also a mulch cover):
The reservoir holds approx 2.75 gallons of water/nutes and the container holds approx 15 gallon of soil.
I wanted good wicking action and was afraid the FFOF might not have enough peat moss to accomplish that, so I added more peat moss and more perlite before adding it to the container. I first added the soil to the two corners that will act as wicks. I packed it down a bit and then filled the rest of the container.
Then got the hole ready prior to adding the plastic cover over the top.
The cover went on next and a hole was cut into it where the plant was to be placed.
I wanted to bury the Sensi Cheese an extra two inches since it got pretty lanky in the solo cup, but the SIP planter wasn't deep enough for me to get it that deep.
My winter grow is finally ready for harvest, but I've been so busy lately, I probably won't be able to begin harvesting until Monday or Tuesday. Lots of grandson babysitting duty lately -- he's a lot of fun, but we're so exhausted afterwards.
Oh, he and his parents just pulled up - gotta go! I'll update on the winter grow soon.
