Outdoor Growing With BeezLuiz

How about a Saturday update on the winter auto run. :)
They are all doing well with no issues to speak of... yet. I switched the feed from MC to FloraMax VegaFlora A & B. I used this last year on some of the indoor plants, and they seemed to do fine. I feed at 5ml/gal. I also add 5ml/gal of Emerald Goddess from Emerald Harvest. It's a plant tonic with ingredients such as alfalfa meal and kelp seaweed extract. I've used this stuff for several years on my outdoor plants and they seem to do well.

I've been calling this an "auto run", but really only two of the five plants were for sure autos as the other three are from seeds I breed last season. Well two of those three have now shown stigmas, so now I know they are both autos (because the light cycle is still at 18/6) and female!:yahoo:

Glueberry OG Auto
This was the first to show pistil stigmas at 38 days from sprout. It's been topped once and is getting some LST. I'm calling today the first day of flowering.

Northern Lights Auto
This one is just a couple days behind the Glueberry in showing stigmas. It's also been topped once and getting LST. I'm pretty happy with the size and shape of this and the Glueberry considering they are autos. I'm holding off on calling this "in flower" just yet, but it's close.

White Zelica #1
This plant was left un-topped just to compare with the others. Its shape is obviously different, but I wanted to see what how the yields compare when everything is done. Of course, to do that it had to be female. I'm happy to report that I saw first stigmas a couple days ago so it is indeed a female, and more importantly it appears to be an auto as well. First stigmas appeared on day 44 from sprout.

White Zelica #2
This one still is not showing its sex, so it's either a very slow auto or it's going to be a photo period. The other two Zelicas took a very long time before confirming they are autos, so I'll give it another week to decide.

White Zelica #3
This plant finally popped a couple stigmas today at 46 days. I'm quite happy about getting at least two of the three Zelicas to be female.

I agree, Beez. Very nice healthy looking CannaLadies! You always have stellar grows!

Incidently, I learned a little more about preflowers! Thanks for that! Happy Smokin'

The girls sure like their life right now. They’re all so healthy looking.
Thanks Nev!

I'm certainly no expert, but that's how I determine preflower vs flower. :Namaste:
They all look healthy, and good job getting confirmation of females!
Thanks Stunger!
I am confused by calling those just showing female parts at the nodes as autos though. Couldn't fem photos be doing something similar around now?
My understanding is that photo period plants wouldn't show sex until flipped. Am I mistaken?

Auto or photo, they all look good Beez!
Shed's right, though- auto/photo- could go either way..
A couple weeks should answer the question...

Photoperiod plants will show what sex they are as soon as they reach sexual maturity, which varies from variety to variety, but is usually between 30 and 60 days.
Well then, I've learned something new today :thanks:. My outdoor grows have never shown sex until summer solstice give or take, and then begin flower a couple weeks later.

I very much appreciate the input, and so I guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer to see if they start flowering on their own. :thanks:

It's getting pretty crowded in there under the light. White Zelica #1 and #3 have shown their sex about a week ago, but have not progressed into flower mode, so I'm calling them photo periods instead of autos. White Zelica #2 still has not shown its sex, so I'm guessing that it is probably a male. Since it's so crowded, I decided to take it outside and turn it into an outdoor plant so it should flip to flowering mode since there is about 11.5 hrs of daylight about now. Once it shows male, I'll throw it in the yard waste bin.

I decided that the untopped White Zelica is going to get too tall and since it seems to be a photo instead of an auto, I might as well go ahead and top it. I removed a good 4 inches of its top.
Now it's back to the same height as the others.

I'm thinking I'll change the light schedule to flip the photo plants and the auto plants are just gonna have to deal with a few hours less light. I'm still pondering that move. I also switched over to bloom nutes for the autos for today's feeding.

Highya Beez,

Good logic applied to your duties as budmaster. I have the Apollo 13 strain, and the females are bigger and taller than the males. The first year I cut the females (I guess) because I didn't get any females. So, last year I waited until it got balls or buds before I cut any. That's when I found out the females were taller and had bigger leaves. Go figure.
Your science is strong by the looks of the leaves on your cannaplants. You always do so well. I'd give a nod to another outdoor show like last year. Gorgeous ladies they were! Happy Smokin'

Time for an update - it's been a while, I guess. Not too much happening yet, but no issues to report so far, so I'm happy about that. :)
Here's the four females filling up my indoor space nicely. I keep raising the lights a couple inches every few days.

I moved White Zelica #1 to outdoors full time (approx 11.5 hrs daylight) 10 days ago. It's still not showing any female parts, and I think maybe it's finally revealing some male parts... what do you all think?

Glueberry OG Auto
Glueberry is getting its flower on. At 63 days from sprout, it's been flowering for about 17 days now. This and the Northern Lights are probably the two largest autos I've grown to date.

Northern Lights Auto
Northern Lights is just a couple days behind Glueberry, and pretty much the same size, but flowers are a little behind so far.

White Zelica #1 & #3
You may recall these were bred by me last year by crossing a female Zamaldelica Auto (mostly sativa) with a male that was bred with a female White Widow (60/40 sativa) and an unknown male. I'm guessing the male was an indica dominant plant because the fan leaves definitely look indica to me.
I feel like these two plants are going to have little Zamaldelica traits since they look nothing like my auto from last year... and they turned out to not be autos. I flipped the lights from 18/6 to 13/11 about 5 days ago, and White Zelica #3 is looking very close to beginning its flowering journey.

I'd give a nod to another outdoor show like last year.
It's almost time to get the outdoor grow started. :tommy: Last year I started my seeds the 2nd week of April. This year I want to keep the size down a bit more, so maybe I'll wait until the 3rd week of April to start -- still pondering that one. At this point, I think I might be growing an Amnesia from Dope Seeds (mostly sativa) and a Sugar Breath (mostly indica). My son grew an Amnesia last year and it was one of his favorites. He gave me an ounce of it and I am also enjoying it very much as well. The Sugar Breath is part of my PotM prize winnings from CannaPot Seeds.

Nice update, Beez- Beautiful and super healthy- It doesn't get much better than that!
and I think maybe it's finally revealing some male parts... what do you all think?
It's looking a little male-ish, but I wouldn't bet any money on it yet......

Funny how you can tell right away with some of them, but then there's the ones that like to keep you wondering....

Highya Beez,

I agree with Carcass! They're like people. Funny how you can tell right away. Others take a little time. lol They do look really healthy! Just what anyone would expect! Happy Smokin'

Always great to have you swing by, Dutch!
what ever happened to the seeds you tried to germinate from Liquid’s pollinated Alaska Purple?
Last season I germinated about 6 each of the pollinated Alaska Purple (aka Mystery Alaska) and the White Widow (aka What Widow). I kept 3 of the What Widows and gave away everything else. All three of my What Widows ended up male and only 2 of the others that I gave away ended up going female - kinda surprised me.

Silver lining: I took the pollen from one of the male What Widows, and pollinated a cutting from my Zamaldelica Auto that I cloned. It gave me about 30 seeds. 3 of those seeds are growing right now - I call them White Zelicas. It looks like I have 2 female and 1 male, and they are all photo period.
