Oldsmokey Goes Hydro

I’m already discovering that Siliclicic acid is not so cheap lol. Gonna spend some more time looking around but it’s something I’d like to try.
It can be very expensive, and if someone doesn't have the room they should probably hold off, but it works, I won't run a hydro season without it. If you hit the lottery give it a try.

I know I’ll end up breaking down and getting the siliclicic acid because I’ve already spent far more anyway lol. Just want to research to find a quality product. Suggestions are welcome. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Same here I haven't ruled it out. And like you any suggestions are welcome.
After reading what stltoed had to say about silica supplements I think the armour si I’ve been using could be why my ph has drifted up on me numerous times. Gonna let that bottle collect some valuable dust for a while. :Rasta:

Think I’ll give this a try since grow green is in the region and offers free shipping.

That looks good! I am trying to find something in Canada not much luck yet but I haven't looked that hard.

I was thinking of trying some silica now it's get more complicated and expensive. I need to smoke a joint and think about it some more.:rollit:
I wish mono-silicic acid was less expensive. Its coming down in price a bit. Someone found it for $60 for a gallon, which is the cheapest I've seen... i completely forgot who I was talking to and what thread it was, but I smoke pot, so...

The first additive I used was almost $90 for 100ml, which makes it the most expensive additive I've ever seen. More than twice what the House an Garden gold bottle costs.

The cost is the reason i don't recommend some of these products, but i will say, when used correctly, they really work. I did 27oz from 2 plants 1 went over a pound my first time with mono-silicic acid

I wish I knew if the stuff I was using is worth it or not, 2 weeks in the hydro wasn't long enough to tell. It was super easy to work with though. I added in MC right after it into the reservoir after a water change with no globs afterwards and their was no pH drift that I could tell from it. It is derived from potassium silicate and come in at 3% soluble silica and 0-0-1.3. @Stltoed tell me what you think? Dosage rate for hydro is 1-2ml and it runs for $40 a gallon or $20 a quart. I'm not sure if you have it in Canada or not Smokey, I bought it on Amazon called TPS Silica Gold.

Well... Fasilitor from Aptos was the first product I used. It was kinda weird, its a gell and needs to be mixed in a seperate container with pure water before putting it in your res. If you dont do this chunks will remain after you add it. It works great. I had foam issues for a couple days but my air pump is a bit of a monster, so i can't say if you will have this problem. Power Si was designed by the same person that did Fasilitor, but its cheaper. There are 2 Power Si one for bloom, which kinda sucks, but it is what it is. If you choose to run just one of these products pick the non bloom version. It makes more sense to give them silica from the beginning, Power Si also advertises that it will slow verticle growth of a lanky sativa if you double the dose. I dont know if there are any other ramifications in doing that, longer flower, etc. But it didnt slow shit on my last grow... for the record I didn't double the dose though. Both Fasilitor and Power Si are meant for hydro, but ive read works just fine in other media. I usually grow 1 in dirt the rest in hydro. My dirt plant that was usually fed with hydro water did 10oz last season

Thank you again for sharing! I just ordered the regular power si and will start using it on my young vegging plants.

Well... its made from a molecule that isn't readily available to the plant. The difference is the molecules orient themselves into chains and has difficulty getting where it needs to be. Monosciicic acid is a single atom and is much more bioavailable. Potassium based Silica isn't broken down enough when we buy it, but over time and run through the digestive tracts of a herd of bacteria it gets better. This doesn't help hydro. The Potassium based versions also have a bad shelf life. Its a bit unstable and can be a much weaker strength if old.

Its not all bad news... foliar feeding is a good way to apply these products as a leaf acquires elements different than roots. But, you arent gonna want to do this in flower. Which may be fine... some stop Silica in flower.

Please let me know how it goes. Ive sorta made Silica a pet project and really want to know how you do.

Have you used Silica ever before?

I’ve used the GH armour si in my soil grows but after hearing what you you have to say about it I think it might be why I’ve been fighting ph drifts.

I’ll definitely let you know how it goes. I’ll be using it on a young clone and a four week old seedling. And in time, the two beans that cracked yesterday and went into their first pots to hopefully sprout in the next day or two. :cheesygrinsmiley:

That stuff is crazy. You can do better.

I can get this in Canada but expensive.
