Oh No - It's A Green Hole! - Reverse Thrusters! - Dammit - Too Late!

Holy cow was that first picture really only one plant! Sorry bout the male buddy. Maybe your fan needs a cleaning and a little grease? That is what I do to my house fan every so often when they start rattling. Just a theory cause I am not really sure about your kind of fan.

The garden is looking great Weasel, and so is that shirt! That sucks about the boy, but as you know it's always a gamble in this game..

Glad to see you're having success with the silicon. I've noticed my stems are much healthier and stiffer with added silicon too. I've only been using it for the last few weeks at like 0.5-1 ml/gal so a bottle will last a looong time. Time will tell though. I'm interested to see what it does to the bud density.

That first picture is three plants, Lex. I usually have four under that light. My original dream was always to do one plant per light but since then I've figured out the obvious... There's not that much room in my veg room to grow big plants like that as a perpetual. I'd have to expand the veg room somehow so I'd have extra room for smaller plants and clones and grow a huge plant and train it as best as I could, then drag it through the doorway to the flowering room which sounds difficult.

I wouldn't know where to start with the fan, other than dissecting it and hoping for the best. It's well sealed up into a run of ducting and I'm worried that if I take it out and apart it won't be going back in again and I'll be in trouble with no cooling system. I think I need to scrape up dollars for a new one and if this one is fixable I'll have a backup or use it for the veg room. It's too loud anyway so actually I hope to remove it.

I thought that picture of the thai was one plant now i see the other screens lol. Alright I got ya about the fan well if you do get another maybe disect the old one and see what's up with it maybe its salvageable i suspect it needs a cleaning i could be wrong too though lol. Your plants are still amazing to me.

The picture of the Thai is one plant. The layout of my pictures and text might be confusing. I've been sitting here scratching my head over whether to try and lug that Thai Stick plant into a closet somewhere and grow it a bit more to collect some pollen from it. If anyone has any pollen collecting tips lay them on me. The times I did it had mixed results because of dampness in the air and clumping of the pollen.

Maybe you're right. I'll consider breaking it open and taking a look inside and figuring out how to clean and grease a fan. It would be hard to believe that it doesn't need a cleaning. I've never cleaned it or done anything with it. It has no brand name or info on it so I don't know what it is. It's been running steadily for years and years so maybe I'm just assuming it should be worn out. It seems like I've already had a longer run with it than fate should allow.

I think I've decided I'll axe the TS if/when I can no longer deny that it's male. I have some cuttings of it. If I want a pollen maker I'll grow a small one instead of lugging that big plant around.

Sorry about your boy. Is it bad that I want a male just so I can see what they look like with my own eyes rather that in a pic? Kinda feel like I need to experience it to enable me to grow my knowledge Base.

The right side of your flower room looks remarkably tame at the moment. :thumb:

No doubt you'll get to see a male plant soon enough if you keep growing a while Mr Am4.
The right hand side does look nice. It's looked nice the last few grows too, up until the time the PC chose to lay down on the job. I'm hoping that some silica will keep them pointing upwards this time.
It's not perfectly even or anything. I probably could make it even if I cared to but for some reason I like having a few limbs sticking up higher here and there. Adds a little character, which is pretty lacking with a scrog system.

Thanks for the compliments JoJo :surf: not worried about the boy- just brings me a few more decisions to make, which I'm working on. I'm thinking I should probably sprout another Thai Stick or two. I'd like to have it going at least a little bit while PotChimp is growing his so we can compare a bit. I could flower it sooner next time, now that I see it's growth potential, and if I like it, clone it and grow it bigger.
So many strains, so little time...

I'm going to have to do some proper silica research soon. I just decided at the time to start tossing it in and do research after. I've been putting in 2-3 ml per gallon.
You haven't noticed any droopy leaves and purple stems from using it then? Colder fall temps may be the culprit.

Is it just me or does the forum seem a bit empty lately?

Here are my problem veg plants. Purple stems, droopy, strange leaf color and looks N deficient. I'm examining the cool temps explanation. I turned up the thermostat to 80. Not sure why it was down at 75. It's located up on the wall higher than these plants and probably temps down by the roots were lower. That's not for certain though because that thermostat seems to run a bit hot. Probably it's set low from the last time I had the veg room packed and grown up right into the light so I was trying to keep it cooler. Plus - it was summer :) Ahhh summer....
Anyway, I retrieved my better thermometer from a jar of Bluberry and put it in there tonight so I'll get a sense of temps by tomorrow.
Here are a couple pics. Do they remind you of your plants at all, Lexort?

Doesn't seem like a temp issue. I like to keep my veg area right around 80 as well.
I don't really think of any impact from temps as low as 65... except slower growth.
I'd look for reasons other than low temps.
Leaf tips burned and clawed. Leaf margins turned up. Almost seems like an overheat rather than low temps. Strange.
I use an oil filled radiant heater some times in the winter. I keep the temps in the area evened out by blowing a small fan directly over the heater. The fan (and others) keep the temps even thru the entire area. I have some high humidity in place so I keep fans moving the air around 24/7. Added bonus, my plants grow quite strong because of the constant branch agitation. Fans really help in my world for many different reasons.

You'll get plenty of flowers to collect pollen, that's for sure (Thai Stick male - left side of first pic)

Here's my female; I keep checking the timer to see if it's right, but I set it at 11.5/12.5 and it's been 6 weeks and 3 days (I put it into bloom too soon, so I didn't even determine sex until a few weeks ago it flowered out so slowly):

This Zamal Reunion plant is in the same tent, and even though it looks rough it's still going at it in full bloom:

My pollen did the same thing, so I need to figure out how to store it to keep it from clumping too.

That's weird Weasel, I haven't been having those problems with added silicon. I typically get red/purple stems on my plants, but I've never really given much thought to it. Is it a bad thing? I tend to get green stems in veg and then they redden as I'm flowering them. Mostly the leaf stems turn colors, but the branch stems do too..

On your plants, my first thought was nitrogen toxicity, but their color looks good and the tips aren't quite "clawing" enough. Could it be a pH issue?

@PotChimp - Those are some nice looking plants! I skimmed through your journal and self-defoliating plants definitely sound interesting! :thumb:

You know weasel i was thinking the same thing about the community it's been pretty quiet. Ha when i read you saying your plant was droopy purple stems and looking N deficient i thought of my plants instantly lol if you figure out what it is let me know lol. Ya I am sure if you open that fan of yours it will be dusty as hell if you have ran it for a couple years lol.

I never thought about it like that but it makes sense JoJo. It always slows down this time of year.
