Obi's Northern Light Autoflower - Indoor T5 - Soilless Mix - 2014

Got my feet up. Relaxing for a bit before tonight's mid-point flush. I'll try to snag a few pics as I go.

Ciao,
/Obi

Alrighty. It's late. Technically it's:
Day: 36

I decided to water with plain pH'd, 36hr tap water this time. Kind of a halfway point, systems check, and soilless mix flush. I have a feeling the soilless mix is heavily buffering whatever I pour into it.

Tonight's water/flush pH readings looked something like this

I had planned to try and get a bunch of pics as I went about flushing tonight but fell very short on time. I noticed the light go out in the grow box about halfway through the flushing session so I kinda hurried things along. I did snap a few pics before I closed them up for the night. I think the camera was still in macro mode so these are a little blurry. I will get better mid-day pics tomorrow!

Thanks for checking out this update! Stay tuned for more :)

Your plants are looking good. If those girls turn out half as good as mine did you will probably end up with a couple of pounds at least. It is wonderful to grow our own medicine. Beemerbill has some really good recipes for various remedies and medicines on here. You are doing a good job. :goodjob: :thumb:

Thank you for the encouraging words, ColoradoKid!

Heh, I'll be happy to dry out a few ounces from this grow. I wouldn't know what to do with a half pound, let a lone two >.<
I picked up some inexpensive bubble bags. I'm looking forward to cooking and other things I couldn't afford to try given the high Rx prices.

Best wishes,
/Obi

Day 36 continued...

I wanted to get a few mid-day pictures taken today. No real rhyme or reason to the pics other than I felt like it. Oh, and who doesn't like to inspect cannabis plant pictures, purely for scientifical reasonings and theocritical hypotenuse of course. But I digest. And move to strike!

Pictures in no particular order

I guess I should qualify what I said before. It really depends on when you chop them. If you chop them early then it will be less yield. If you wait until they go mostly amber (which I do for meds) then you will get a lot more yield. They really fatten up in the last couple of weeks before dying a natural death. I am guessing a quarter pound per plant if you go for the long haul. It is really what you want from your plants. I grow for medicine and quality. I hope that this helps you understand your options when it comes harvest time. :thumb:

I see where you are coming from ColoradoKid. We have some similar likes in our meds. I've been taking some of your queues and running with them, no doubt about it :) I'll take quality any day of the week. My current plan is to run the best of the bunch a week or two long. I'm thinking cloudy/amber late night use will suit me well. Having control over the final outcome is kind of fun :)

Welcome scottish. It's good to see you :passitleft:

I'm just settling in for the long anticipated (by me) 2nd half of this T5 grow. I thought I was nervous and anxious about making mistakes before... now that I've made it this far I really want to see these plants complete their life cycle to the best of their ability.

It's all pretty amazing.

Very nice grow you got going on.

Thank you CO Finest! I'm amazed every time I open the grow box door, lol. I wouldn't be where I am today without the good people here and the great info all over this site :)

I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to more: finishing out this grow to see how it all turns out or starting a new grow with new ideas!

Cheers,
/Obi

Day 38

Just some observations, rambling and musing.

No significant changes since the day 36 flush experiment. Simple steady growth. I need to raise the light a few inches every 3-5 days.

One plant is near ready for a watering already. The container is much lighter than the rest of the group. She's also one of the late bloomers that are just starting to turn to flower. I have high hopes for this one.

Two plants are displaying a Nitrogen abundance. Very deep green foliage.
Two plants are displaying a lock out or deficiency resulting in early yellowing and some spotting of fan leaves.
Two plants are developing a little slow but are looking beautiful.
Two plants are on the experimental fringe doing their own thing.

Those last two usually take the brunt of the "least favorable" spot in the box. Sometimes deflecting a fan breeze and suffering wind burn for the group.

Speaking of fans... I need to craft a way to raise one of my fans up to the bottom of my light. That might be tonight's project along with re-charging the CO2 generators.

I'm going to swap out a few more 6500k bulbs tonight or tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I want to leave 2 6500's in there or just go with all 8 3000K bulbs.

I will take some measurements and pics the next time I open the box. I'm curious to see how tall the plants are and where the light height is relative to the container level and canopy level.

Looking ahead just a little. I hope I can harvest by June 27 or after July 6. I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a critical decision before I head out of town for a week on June 28.

Happy growing everyone,
/Obi-Wan Cannabinoid
:thanks:

I could use a few hardware suggestions for magnifying Trichomes for inspection. If I could use it to share pictures as well that would be a great bonus! Something in the $60 range maybe? I'll invest more if it's deemed worth it.

Thanks,
/Obi

Hey Obi my friend, here are a few thoughts for your consideration. I don't do a flush at the end. I'll explain...I cut off the top buds or any buds that are ready for the chop in my opinion. That leaves the lower less ripe buds to grow fatter and the popcorn buds to fatten up. That makes trimming easier on me (not so much to trim at once). I can't find anywhere in the rule book where it says I have to chop the whole plant all at once. I put the stems of the cut buds in some distilled water for a couple of days or ph'ed water is good. Change the water every day. That is the flush and it makes the smoke much smoother. If you are only going to be doing bubble hash then that step is not needed. I wash my buds. That way I get much smoother smoke and higher quality meds and a larger yield to boot. Feel free to laugh at an old hippy. I wish you the best my friend. :high-five:
