Are you sure that's mold? Looks more like the start of some insect nest to me.Chopped it all out. But also first cloudy day in weeks…
This might be a bit too hard to achieve, mould in veg to completion.
Any reason? I thought SIPs did better with no top watering (unless you had to for water-in top-dress nutes).there was top watering
Could have been the start of a spiders nest thing. It was all stringy and white sticky looking. If you put in side lighting there need to be a lot fewer plants!

Just to “supercharge” her as she’d been a bit neglected. Emyla Green I think said she does every so often.Any reason? I thought SIPs did better with no top watering (unless you had to for water-in top-dress nutes).
I did that a handful of times too with my swicks. I know a swick is not a sip but the principle is the same, the water is wicked into the medium via capillary action, same same is it not? I top watered maybe once every 2.5 weeks, but only enough to feed the top roots. I had to reset swick once I think, and then I watered to run off into the reservoir, but that was a reset not a watering.Just to “supercharge” her as she’d been a bit neglected. I think it is Gee64 who has recently shown that his soil on swick was wettest in the middle. Or was it Otter? I'd need to check but they put a moisture meter into the soil at various levels to measure moisture content in the pot.I should probably have a read up on the distinction. SIP/Swick but yeah broadly speaking you’re trying to get those roots feeding hydro style from below. A bit of top watering maybe encourages some outward growth?
I wonder what some holes in the sides would do for me? Well the SIP, not me personally.

Hmmm holes in the sides. Lets do that - try maximise the outward growth. Seems vaguely plausible?I think it is Gee64 who has recently shown that his soil on swick was wettest in the middle. How I came to do the occasional top water was that I had spare water with bloom nutes when res was full and I didn't want to waste so I poured in the top. There was no adverse reaction so I continued to pour the excess water on top if there was some remaining. Not very scientific but it does speak anecdotally to the claim that occasional top watering will not be harmful to a sip / swick setup, and could be beneficial.
