Newbie First Grow - Outdoors - Bag Seeds

I have not seen my plants in two days....I just have not been feeling like moving and although they are a five minute drive away....I just couldn't move to the car. I am now waiting for this wonderful....much needed thunderstorm to be over so I can go ck on them

I am new to all this...remember that when I give my limited advice

At least you know they got watered! :)

Thank yall so much. This first grow is teaching me so much about gardening and myself. I can't wait to see what I actually pull off these plants.

Thinking about next season. When do outdoor growers start popping their seeds?
Do u start inside first?
If so what kind of setup?
When do u start planting outside?

All of my plants I currently have were all started late...very late...but what did I know. I know better so I will do better next run.

I was only 15 years old so I started outside. I learned how to prep a field in the winter spring. But that was after I screwed up many times. So really I got my first successful crop when I was 17. I did try to grow inside many times but I was caught by my mother over and over. I never got in trouble but I had to get rid of them and that sucks after so much work. And back then there were no "strains" it was just bag seed. I learned from Ed rosenthal's book on growing that bag seed can be very good if you had no seeds. Then the plants energy would go into the flowers only. A bud is significantly stronger without seeds and is dried and cured correctly. You on the other hand don't have to go through all of that because all the info you need and all the people you need to talk to are right here. So the "bag seed" you are growing right now is going to be stronger than the weed you got the seed from. People here will teach you proper drying techniques and proper curing techniques to make your MJ the best it can be.

The day you start growing really doesn't matter it just effects the size and yield of your plant during Harvest. Most people want to start inside right before spring so their plants can be as big as possible during harvest time. You just don't want to start in late August or September when the plant is already starting to flower. That's pretty much all you need to know. If anyone has more info just chime in

I actually tossed one bean into a cup of water today. It's another autoflower that I'll put outside on the deck as soon as I can.
I want to do alot of photos next year. This year I did all bag seeds except for 2 autos I brought. Next season I want to start at the best time to get bigger plants. I have tons of land. And with the tree fence going in I will be very secure.

These bag seeds have taught me alot.

I don't really want to bother with an indoor setup so I won't plant anything til next season.

Hoping heirloom will pop in and tell me when he plants.

It's depends on what area of the country you live in. I'm in zone 7 so people start around April but no matter what zone u live in a lot of people start seedlings indoors under fluorescents so they have some hardiness to them in case of freak cold spells

Thank u for this. Bookmarking that page. I am a zone 8. what veggies should I look at for MJ planting?

What kind of setup do I need inside....just some regular cfls?

If u plant in April outside when do u start them inside?

I plan on 20 plants for next season. Am I taking on too much? Am I being an overzealous newbie?

I will know for sure when I dig the holes.

How far apart should each hole be?

All you need is a very simple setup you can plant the seeds in those Jiffy pots and just keep them under fluorescent lights until they're ready to go Outdoors. You don't need a tent or anything like that. Personally I just use those very large CFL bulbs that put out a lot of lumens. You can just dangle them right over the plants as close as you can so they don't stretch. I mean you can put those bulbs so close to the seedlings without hurting them at all. You don't need special sockets for the bulbs on talking about either. They just fit into NE normal light socket. I think each bulb puts out about 2500 lumens

If using CFL's get the 6500K "Cool White" bulbs for veg.

Plant spacing depends on how big you're going to grow your plants and, if you can get all the holes dug, you're probably not taking on too much! :)

Listen to Mr Krip. Yeah if you're gonna be topping and trying out some LST your holes will be much further apart than if you just plant and leave them alone. I learned that a long time ago when I cleared a spot out for 4 plants but experimented with a growi i read about in high times and the 1 plant took over the entire space. I was able to transplant the other 3. So just plan ahead on what you are gonna do. I think with everything you are learning on this site and the support network. You should try topping and strapping those branches down. Instead of the typical Christmas tree look you can grow a giant spider looking plant stretching all over the place. And at harvest your enormous spider will grow giant hairs like a tarantula but instead of hairs it's will be large sticky colas. You ask the right questions and next season u will have even more knowledge. You should experiment so that knowledge turns into cannabis wisdom . Then you will be the guy who gives advice. I'm excited to see how far you can go. Anyway dig the holes far apart enough to experiment.

I will be doing more with training and experimenting next season. I started out training this run and kinda stopped when I kept turning out males.. so the males helped me figure out alot of stuff...broken stems...they scared me at first....now I know how to fix them....

I can't wait till next season.

For training 10 feet apart?
