New City Grower 3.5 - Our Perpetual Grow - Continued

... and fuses don't sizzle as they blow.

Reg, check the socket on the lamp, where the cord plugs into it. Sometimes, that doesn't get seated very well, heats up, and then melts down with a sizzle.
Checking the connections was the first thing I did Gray but I don't trust myself doing electrical work. That little 2 bedroom apt is all we have so I can't burn it down. When the fuse arrives I'll be taking the whole shabang to the Electrical Repair Shop around the corner from us.

Thanxx Sue & Cronic...

Jason from Twilight has responded already! Here's a "copy & paste" of part of the Email he sent me:

Really... I got 3 of those switches if you would like me to send them to you....:) I'm so sorry Broke Ass.... I'll be honest with you... I still have the Spider4.... I'm scared to death of it......... I bet the wiring in yours is the same tv wire that was inside the Spider16..... and I assure you I know where you can find out what the problem with that switch and fuse is... 7Dust... He rebuilt 2 of them....:circle-of-love:

I remember that whole scenario Fifi but wanted to give Twilight the benefit of the doubt before bringing it up. Although it may be the same problem since I received my test lamp before you received yours (which means before they upgraded to resolve the problem 7 pointed out to them); Too low gauge of wiring for such powerful lights.

If so the reason mines lasted much longer would be that it's a Spider 9 and not as big as your Spider 16.

EXPERIMENTS UPDATE

The One Day Isolation Breeders Experiment

Now we're getting to the good part; The Isolation Phase. First off I haven't sprayed the Veg Tent with h2o yet, I want to give the AFGHAN KUSH Auto Clone until right before lights out to make sure she's pollinated. I know, she should've been done but a few more hours won't hurt.

IMG_000166781.jpg

The plant I chose from the Bloom Tent was a Critical Sensi Star because she's the least healthiest. She's in the midst of recovering from a potassium deficiency and looking much better if I must say so myself.
She's been put in the basin sink of the bathroom with the vanity mirror lights on. They won't be turned off until her regularly scheduled "lights out" time.
I took the tray of pollen and brushed it over one complete branch as you can see below.

Now Dusty, when exactly do I spray her with h20; at the end of the 24hrs or before and if it's after the 24hrs is it ok to put her back in the Bloom Tent immediately after spraying?

The male has been tossed and the precautions I've taken since handling him was doing all this before taking my evening shower (which I usually do as soon as I walk in) but I took it after finishing this phase so I won't be carrying pollen back into my grow area. Come to think of it let me go ahead and spray the Veg Tent now.

Hold on----------Back

DONE... Sprayed everything generously; the plants, the walls, the doors, the floor in front of the tent, and turned the fan back on.

Now it's a waiting game until tomorrow evening.

Thanxx Dusty.

So everyone, as long as nothing else bears beans in either one of our two Bloom Tents (the other one being my big plant Grow Tent featured in NCG 4.0) in the next month then this experiment will be considered a success. If so then we've found a way to breed with limited real estate! A win for all of us small growers in tight quarters.

Here's a brief review of what took place:

Phase 1:

I waited for a male to show his sex in the Bloom Tent and instead of tossing him I waited until the pollen sacs were at the point of a day or two before exploding.

Phase 2:
I moved the male into the Veg Tent since photos can't be pollinated during Veg. I also turned off the fan to prevent pollen from blowing out of the tent and all over the grow area. There was a dish under the male to collect the pollen and I left an Auto clone sitting directly under him to shoot for some auto beans.

Phase 3:

After a sufficient amount of pollen was in the dish I removed it and tossed the male, picked a relatively young flowering candidate from the Bloom Tent, brushed a branch with the collected pollen, and now I'm in the midst of the 24hr isolation period.

The next and last phase will be returning the pollinated female back to the Bloom Tent.

Just alittle idea I've used in the past. I'm not sure if I'm on the right track but I use to pollenate a single flower on a lower branch and didn't want to hit any others but that one. Alittle artist brush Then I'd take a white paper envelope and staple it around the pollenated flower for acouple days then remove and then spray with water. The paper envelope will allow light thru and will let them breath two without scattering pollen to other branches. I haven't read everything you got up but hopefully I'm on the right subject. Sensie star is a great plant I've worked with afew times and loved it. Haven't tried the critical cross but have heard from afew it was a winner.

Looking good my Friend. Keepem Green

Thanxx for the envelope tip Woody. I'll add that to the procedure next time and Dusty, when you said "use a little brush" I just assumed you meant a toothbrush. We have a whole pack of those little oil painting brushes.

Anyway, the deed is done. The 24hr isolation period is over, she's been sprayed, and is back in the Bloom Tent.

Now for some beans!!!

QUICK UPDATE
Aug 23, 2015

Well folks, you knew it was coming. Now that we've proven two plants can grow in the same pot without fighting for dominance over in NCG 4.0 with the Double Bagseed we're starting a Double White Widow X Big Bud. Since the two clones have different start dates we'll use the timeline of the oldest clone.

DOUBLE / WHITE WIDOW X BIG BUD (Clones) Day 41

The plan is to veg her out nice and long to get maximum yield.

IMG_00016984.jpg

She's taking up almost all the real estate in the Lower Level of the Veg Tent so we had to stuff the Upper Level. She'll only be here until I chop the last 2 plants in the Big Tent and switch it back to 18/6.

DALE'S BLUE BLOOD
(MEDICANN BLUE BLOOD in SIP grown in honor of SWEETSUE'S DALE) Day 44

She'll be transplanted to a 5gal Smart Pot as well once the Big Tent is switched back to 18/6. Since the last time I posted her she's been topped repeatedly to get a nice bush going.

Do you think there is an advantage to a double planting or is it just "because you can"? :cheesygrinsmiley:

From what I've seen so far Pita I think for growing with limited space the advantage is bigger yields per pot. We'll see if it holds true with this one. If you're using clones it's not like you're wasting money doubling up expensive seeds.

It's the least I can do Sue.

DOUBLE / WHITE WIDOW X BIG BUD (Clones) Day 42

Last night we did some LST on the older clone to even the canopy to the height of the younger one and also topped the circled younger clone.

Backatcha Cronic.

Nice healthy looking greenery there Reg.

Thanxx Sue.

Here's a look at our Fire Escape Girls. Cronic got me thinking yesterday that if I moved them to one of the window ledges on the back side of the apt they'd have more direct sunlight than the maybe 7hrs a day they're getting now.
But better judgement nicked those thoughts in the bud; Conradino23 is having great results in the shady spot of his guerrilla grow, the residents higher than us from the adjacent building that's on the next block would have a bird's eye view from the back of their apts, we wouldn't have the safety net of the fire escape if strong winds blew them off the ledge (which happened the other summer), and most importantly you all would miss seeing our lovely block... LOL.
