New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB LED

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

I heard some guess that LED activates more parts of the plants do to more spectrum and need more mag as this carries the nutes.

I think it was KingJohnC in his Lush journal, but not 100% sure.

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

It could have to do with intensity or the difference in particles, the light particles emitted by LED's aren't your typical light particles, like emitted by fluorescents. They're very intense photons emitted in a single file stream. (in random directions) Maybe the difference in the light particles/emission effects the photosynthesis process, food for thought ;) just joining the 420 brainstorm in here lol

That's an interesting supposition SoilGirl, and something I didn't know about LEDs. I need to study up on them. Soon. Not that I anticipate any nutrient concerns with LOS, but because I want to be informed before I order mine. So much to learn.

Happy holidays!
Per Post#183, has anyone figured out why LED-lit plants need so much CalMag? The phenomenon is too widely reported to be coincidental.

I believe that plants grown under LED light panels require more calcium and magnesium due to the unique wavelengths of the full spectrum lighting activation of more active receptors on the plants then other illumination.

I'm almost positive you won't have any deficiencies with LOS. I use store bought Super soil, and I have never added anything else other than bennies to my ladies. so you should should have no worries as LOS is superior to super soil for sure. :)

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Loess soil is what they are talking about I think... It is a type of silt which forms fertile topsoil in some parts of the world. It is used in most all Super soils in the USA and I am assuming most other places too....:circle-of-love:

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Living Organic Soil (LOS), in a nutshell, is built around the concept that it's really the soil that grows the plant. We build a soil base that supports the microbiology of a healthy soil food web and then raise the soil like a pet. Those micro beasties break down the components in our soil to feed the plant whatever it asks for. Very natural, incredibly easy to maintain (could be done as a water only grow) and the sweetest tasting cannabis one could wish for. It's an obsession beyond the one we already share to grow our own meds. No bottled additives at all and no concerns of nutrient deficiencies.

I've taken it a step further by doing a no-till. I won't be digging out the roots or disturbing the soil any more than what it takes to plant the next seed. No more purchasing soil and no more mixing. Just feed the soil, water and offer good lighting. Let my worms till the soil for me.

Re: New City Grower 3.0 - Sponsored by Twilight Group Co. - Featuring the Spider9 COB

Plants are looking nice BAR. When my plants are at peak feeding, I'll give them 10ml per gal CaMg at every irrigation, and sometimes more than that. Typically, the worst thing you would do by overdoing it, would be to crowd out other nutrients with so much CaMg. You'd need to really dump that stuff in there for that to happen. With LED, don't be shy with the CaMg - but 20, sounds higher than I would go :peace:

Happy 2015!

I believe too much of either can lockout other nutrients. I have very hard water (400+ ppm) and had lockout issues before I got my RO filter. I'm unsure what exactly is in my tap water, so can't say if it was too much Ca or Mg.

That's the same as what I was saying, just differing jargon :Namaste: Depending on the scenario, I use the word 'push' too. Push-out, lock-out, crowd-out - other nutrients, which leads to deficiency - not burnt plants, as too much N, P, K would. No real danger of that. :peace::Namaste:

Hey caretaker......I'm bout to star my first led grow or any grow for that matter. In soil and am going to use GO nutes with their calmg.....they recommend 5ml per feeding.....r u suggesting to double that from the beginning? Can't hurt?

Hey Nematode ... Good luck on your grow brother, you're gonna love it. Those GO nutes look very good, I keep meaning to try them. With nutes - it's certainly not optimal to add more of anything than is needed, so I would not double the dose. My point was that it's not going to be overly harmful if you overshoot a bit, and I've had better results when I'm slightly heavy handed with the CaMg.

I would feed as directed to start with. When the plant gets bigger, and starts to stretch in flower, or at the first sign of deficiency, I would feed her more than directed. With my water, that's approximately 10ml more than directed at peak flower. All of your conditions will be different though :) Hope that helps. :peace::Namaste:

Hey Reg,

Sorry I'm late, I boarded the slow train by mistake, doh.

Hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas. Enjoy tonight's celebrations as we welcome the new year.

Well some exciting things you got going here. congrats on the sponsorship.

Nice to see some more basic ideas (i.e. keeping it simple) being used again.

One thing I'd like to say is, I don't foresee great things for SG II unless you start feeding her some

basic macro nutes. You know the NPK stuff. Cal/Mag is important but I can't see her doing well a few

more weeks down the line.

Analysis of the few plants we put out in the wild with no soil prep or added nutes, saw the

plants consume all of the lower foliage in their effort to survive and produce flower.

Survive they did though, and gifted us with around 40 grams of very good medication (2 plants).

As an experiment it could be interesting.
