Nagini's - Northern Lights - Indoor - Scrog - CFL - Grow

Just a hint... Make sure since you are running those cfl's so close together that although the heat from one is not high that many together will begin to put off some real heat and depending on the quality of your sockets used you could be looking at some fire hazards on that. Make sure that once you put them into their final home that you run atleast a single fan across the lights to keep that heat down. when you run a series parallel circuit like that even the wires can begin to get hot. Also I would finish off the butt connector with some electrical tape as they are known to come off.

Ok I'll have a pc fan blowing across the lights. I thought about that but wasn't decided. Now I am. And you're saying to wrap the red plastic nuts and wire with electrical tape? I don't believe I'll run 12. Just because I can, doesn't mean I should. And I rather have the sockets and not use them rather than wish I had more sockets lol. Clarify on the electrical tape please, I DO NOT need a fire.

I was just curious. I also bought some seeds online from bonzaseeds and noticed that some looked underdeveloped (small, tan greyish color). I guess well just have to wait untill we plant them to see how they do...
Btw, i think what "ptsd" means i that you should rap the wire nuts with electrical tape and secure them to the wire because they tend to fall of on their own ::)

#yourawesome :)

Ya you are correct. The only reason I say it is because they tend to fall off, and the tape will make sure that doesn't happen. The fan tho is a good idea at the very least although it does look good. And shit the more light the better there is no denying that fact. It looks good tho man it really does.

Thank you! I've been reading through electrician forums on taping wire nuts. There is no definite answer. Seems that the majority don't tape them. The ones that use tape argue that it makes the connection tighter, and the ones against it say applying tape loosens the nut's connection. I'll definitely apply to the last connection before i runs to the wall because that will see the most movement. I will inspect all the nuts tomorrow and come to a conclusion. I really do appreciate your input, I did not consider a fire hazard for a split second but it is a serious issue indeed. Thank you! Do you think 1 pc fan on the lights will do the trick? I have 3 fans total already wired but not mounted. How would you utilize them?

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!
I'm so fucking proud of myself. I have a lot of respect for electricians now.

6 sockets wired in parallel (weights to keep from falling off table)

hooked up everything before i plugged them in

Houston we have lift off!

Extremely bright! The carpet was glowing... the picture doesn't capture it well.

All in all I love it! You guys are looking at 19,200 lumens. She gets warm!!! My little green lady will love this!

That's art. :yahoo::yahoo::popcorn: Wait until the girls get a load of that!!

In my opinion, for the size griw box you have, i would say your fine with one exhaust fan and maybe one to blow across the top of your plants. They say it stimulates stem development so you have a stronger stem to support buds and so youll have a fatter stem so the plant is able to distribute nutrients to all bud sights more efficiently. I would mount my exhaust fan on the top of my grow box and drill intake holes on the bottom of the grow box so the air is being sucked in from the bottom and then passes through plants before being exhausted through the top.

MassMedMan, thanks brother! I have to finish my exhaust and mount fans tomorrow and hopefully I can start to germinate tomorrow evening.

lovitonce, I was gonna run 2 exhaust fans and one on the plants but now I'm really second guessing the heat from cfl's. I think I'll pick up a 4th fan and run 2 on the lights, one on the plant, and one for exhaust. Shiiiiiit, I hate when I start second guessing. This will be in my head all weekend.

:hmmmm:

Haha don't stress man... The CFL's don't really put out all that much heat. One PC fan blowing across the CFL's will be more then adequate. Heat rises so run an exhaust fan out the top and an input fan in there. A fan blowing on the cannabis will allow air movement throughout the foliage helping with not only heat but also mold and other issues. Normally a fan on lighting isn't really needed but with that many cfl's I would just lean towards the side of caution and run one. I like your idea of putting the tape at the least on the last connection which would get the most movement. I do electricity and wiring as a profession and I know that those connection suck. They hold if there is no movement to them, and in your case will suffice. The tape was just a helpful hint not needed by anymeans just what my preference is when it comes to using wire nuts....

I greatly appreciate your input, really glad I joined this site. So I'll run a fan across the lights, across the plant, and one for exhaust. My box is only 4 cubic feet so I think I'll be fine. Gonna get off the computer so I stop thinking about it. Take it easy brother!

UPDATE!
It's aliveeeeee! Box is complete! Wood and screws are for scrog (i'll wrap string when the time comes), carbon filter is attached, 1 exhaust fan, 1 fan for my lady Mary, and 1 fan on the lights. The seed is germinating as I type, there's a millimeter of the tap root attempting to pop out. Should be planted tomorrow, thinking of a GLR lighting schedule.

Looks great Nagini! Thanks for letting me ride along with you. As a side note to all, everyone here has been so helpful with my questions. Still doing my homework, hopefully I will be ready soon to order some of my seeds! And that's another discussion... on best kind for maximum yield/ first time grow...ny suggestions out there in the community?

Glad you're still following! It gets a bit boring for some when there are no plants. Building the box was half the fun and most of the effort! Seriously! From here on out it will be easy. For an easy strain I would pick an indica strain. Any of the kush or skunk variations. I chose northern lights because it is the first thing out of anyone's mouth when you ask what a good easy strain is. It's short and low odor which is perfect for me.

Hey, nice DIY setup
Have you thought about any workaround for light leaks? don't want no hermies

I'll throw a towel over the box. It'll be in the closet and lights will be off when it's dark in my house. Should be under control.

Hey bud, got a question about your carbon filter. Was giving it some more thought. Instead of using the second smaller cup, I was cleaning out my wife's dirt devil, and it has a filter, that I believe will fit nicely into the larger cup, and I think it's only 4 inches...was wondering what you thought about using that? Will give more room for the carbon, and everything else stays the same.

Yes that sounds like it would work fine. More room for carbon and it's an actual filter not just a metal mesh cup. The hardest part for me was securing it to the box. Duct tape didn't hold up so i went with a hot glue gun. My favorite tool by far!
