Mysterious As Batman - First Time Grower

So today was a scorcher...95°F and humid as could be. The 4x8 tent is doing very well considering. I'd like to see my heat a little lower (3-5°) but considering, I don't run ac...they appear okay.

Yesterday was my first time pruning, what I thought to be unnecessary leaves. I have 10 plants in total. The average height is 12-14 inches tall. They are currently in week 7 and I feel on track for next week's flip.
This morning I decided to attempt a small dose of LOW STRESS TRAINING. I used 12 inch pipe cleaners. They are easily adjusted to remain loose from plant stalks and prevent harm with the furry sheathing. My goal is to reduce overall height, so my ladies don't get to close to the KING 1500w LED, also to expose any hidden colas. It has been less than 24 hours and they seem to be adapting to the LAST nicely. The stress from pruning hasn't seemed to stress them out either...keeping my fingers crossed. I recently went down to give them a second sprits of CALMAG, pH 6.7

I pulled one of the ladies out at random to take a natural light picture. The lens on my phone is cracked from work but it clearly shows a happy mama...oh my how she has grown.
NO FRONT, GROW YOUR OWN

Snarly. Thank you for following my grow. I am learning more everyday. Thank you for being the first and loyal follower. As far as I'm aware, one of two...haha.
I'm sorry I don't reciprocate the kind words and positive or helpful feedback you offer. I think when I begin my next grow, I will be more at ease and have more time to follow and comment.
Stay green my friend

No worries, Fab. There are a lot of knowledgeable and friendly people here at 420.
Any time you have a question, or just want to make a comment, feel free to jump right in. ;)

So recently read, there is a huge debate in regards to defoliating Mj plants. I did it not knowing what I was doing and during my first grow. Hopefully, I chose the correct path...I'm just a you grasshopper...gotta learn these things one way or another.

Do you think it's bad for the plant?
If so, why?
Do you think it's okay to perform DEFOLIATING?

CURIOUS WHAT PEOPLE THINK

Defoliation is one of those things that people are very for it or very against it~ you'll get a debate from both sides every time.
I have 3 plants & did varying degrees of defol on each just to see for myself. Personally I'm a fan of it. I see the results that I expect & will keep with it. My most heavily defol'd plant was a little slower producing buds, but now has the biggest most dense buds of my 3 plants. Someone had mentioned they believe the buds with fan leaves produced the biggest buds, so I studied my plants & found the bud sites *without* the fan leaf has bigger thicker buds with more sugar leaves than the ones where I left the fan leaf. That's my personal experience & I'm certain you will get the other end of the debate soon. Both sides of the debate make sense & have valid points; It's one of those things people are fairly passionate about. I just go with my gut & it seems to work for me so far~ I'm happy with my big experiment~

Vespertine, you too are another great asset to my grow. I want to thank you for the motivation and positive feedback and insight. The girls should be called SNARLY VESPERTINE...that will be my strain name! Thank you...grow fo show

Sorry, but LMFAO
And you really have no idea just how snarly vesp can get :thedoubletake:

It's pretty well known that I only defol dead or yellowing leaves. I don't want to get into the controversy surrounding defol, so I'll just let it be and do my thing as others do their thing :)

As a new and learning grower, I guess I need to take my licks and learn things the hard way at times. I tried the defol this time around but next session will be with White Widow and I am only going to pick Dead Leaves or damaged leaves and let her ride it out. I feel I will try my self appointed mentors path for growing and see what happens. I can't pick a side yet, I have nothing to base my opinion on.
Mad respect for SNARLY AND VESPERTINE

I was hoping snarly would give you his take on defoliation as he knows his shit, but I think the best way to find our own groove is to experiment with what we're comfortable with & come to our own conclusions. As long as you enjoy what you're doing, I believe you're on the right path~ happy growing!

Fab. Defol seems to be a really touchy area. I'm of the "fanleaves are the powerhouse factories, buds are the product" school. Others do well with major defol. As vesp said,it boils down to personal choice, with some research. ;)

I have seen major growth spurt since I did the defol...more of a thinning...I rid the girls of leaves that showed signs of discoloration, wilting, or dead characteristics. I only removed a few of the large fan leaves that were covering large areas where colas are sure to perform. I definitely will do more research...there must be a happy medium...but the girls are happy and perky.
