I am gonna tell a bee story too, sparked by Fish Cakes thread

First-- Don't be a bee, it is way better to be a bear


I am about 17... many moons ago :cheesygrinsmiley: I wake up to my father hollering "Get up! we got a problem!!!" I am way out of it with about 2 hours sleep and still three sheets to the wind. I come up to see may father at parade rest in front of the sliding glass door to the back yard. I look out and the entire back yard was a swarm of bees... by swarm I mean the entire back yard was so full of bees they made it dark. He said "What do you think we should do?"... I was like "What can we do?" He gave me the you are f'ing useless look and on that note I crashed again :cheesygrinsmiley: When I woke up again, hours later, he was still there. I looked out and there were no bees. He reported "They are up there" I looked up and there was a ball of bees 3' x 2' easy. Again he asked "What do you think?" I was like :confused: so I went out to meet my buds. As we talked the bees came up and one of my buds said "can I have them?"... what? Well turns out his dad raised bees and he knew the worth of a swarm like that. I called the old man and told him D would be glad to take the bee's, at last I was good for something :cheesygrinsmiley: off we went and what a show it was, D was in a short sleeve T with a pocket for smokes (we all wore them) he had a lit cig a heavy plastic bag, dust pan and ladder. Up he went and with a few puffs he shoveled that swarm right in the bag. He was stung about 5 times. There was about 30lbs of bee's!!! Off he went and managed to keep them!!

For you Mainers there is a place to get bees in Bath!!! :cheesygrinsmiley:

I do... and here is another story. Up to the fort and on the left the boys sit with beer and fish with bait. I was out fly fishing for stripers with a bud and there was not much action but we decided to give it a try. As I waded in and got my rod ready they started in "hey man there is no trout in here!!" laughter they kept it up "look at that fool with a fly rod" (Fish cake it is kind of like LED :cheesygrinsmiley:) After a couple casts I put on my best fly to the taunts of "That trout fly won't work here, fool" and gave it a cast. I waited extra time to get it right to the bottom and started to strip... BAM, fish on! All the boys started a new chatter "he got something!" My bud was a respectful distance away when I brought up a nice sized striper, I held it up for him and then turned to the boys and showed them and then did something really from away... I let it go!!! :cheesygrinsmiley: they freaked!!!

Then we waded up and left

My ole pappy tended bees most of his life. When he died, I went to actually buy a jar of honey after I ran out of his. I freaked the hell out at the price! 8 to 12 bucks a quart!




Strippin' & rippin' a striper- nice! Then let it go, to show them fokkers on the wall a thing or two about sportsmanship. Well done!

Talking about prices?! With Hawaii guys like CHH, OMM and myself?! Local honey is likely over $2 an OUNCE! :rofl: On a side note, comb/waxy-garbage is gross, and I'll have none of it.

Holy hell Buckshot! Your plants are gorgeous! And holy crap about the story! Similar thing happened to me when I was little so its a bit vague... Our boxer was acting weird, and we saw all these bees come from nowhere and swarmed a large tree in our backyard... Dog came in the house before the mass arrived, or it looked like it would have killed him. They were everywhere! Didn't stay or set up shop, they moved on... But it wasn't uncommon for them to flock to the tree when it was flowering... Just never in "holy crap were all going to die" swarm numbers... I know what you mean about them being in a mass that "made it dark"... Fucking scary, no thanks!
