My First Time Growing

Yes, they would. People will hrmm, hmmm about vegetation light schedules and what is the best schedule. Some even veg under 24/24 - lights always on. But, you have to pay for the electricity. I've been meaning to mention.... On your limited budget brace yourself for the next electric bill. You are changing electricity to light and electricity isn't free.

I figured that about the electric bill that's coming. I already warned my wife so she doesn't freak when we get the next electric bill. But thanks for reminding me, I appreciate it.

There are lots of things you can do within the house to help counteract that extra use of electricity. I had a post a couple of years ago on what I did that made a remarkable difference in usage. There was also a thread about it, if you're interested I can find that and link it for you.

I forgot to ask, Then once I have the room with the bottom of the bookcase, I could switch the light schedule to 20/4 for the whole book case and grow an auto as well, If I'm understanding correctly? But I assume I would need the Ona gel you were talking about before to cover up the odor when the auto goes into flower mode. Sorry, I'm nor trying to make this complicated, just wanted to understand it.

It's not a ton of cash. And it'll be hard to decipher since you have never wintered in your new home. Electricity is part of the cost of "growing your own." If dispensary prices in your location are in the $400 an ounce range you are going to pay around $80 per ounce growing your own for dirt, nutes, electricity, etc - AFTER paying for the the hardware - lights, tents, etc.

This is where i say one more time - the laws suck!

I assume it's mostly running things less and cutting back on everything that uses electricity, But if you don't mind, I would like to read that link to see if their is anything I'm not thinking of. If it's a big problem too find it, don't go out of your way to locate it. But thank you!

No. If you put your now flowering photoperiod plants under a 18/6 or 20/4 light schedule it would completely screw them up. They would go through painful hormonal changes and revert to a vegetative growth phase. If and when they recovered from the hormonal turmoil they wouldn't flower again until you cut the light schedule back.

Dee has some autos flowering and they are in their own tents - apart from photo period plants. They need to be segregated if you want to grow both at the same time. One school for photos, one school for autos.

I hate it when I have to disagree PJ but I have my autos in my veg tent with the photo girls that are in veg.... and honestly... it just depends on where I have room for them... I prefer to grow them at 18/6... I think you get better growth and buddage but I have thrown them in the bloom tent 12/12 and they will do just fine... the plants won't be as large and the buds won't be as hard... At least in the ones I have done that is how they turned out... My Pineapple Express was grown under a 48x3w reflector in a 1'x1' cabinet 16/8 {I know but that's a whole other story} all by herself and I pulled over 3 zips from her and she was my first...:) then the auto WW got thrown in the bloom tent cause that is where I had room for her and she wasn't as large a harvest but the buds were covered and huge then the Sugar Mango got thrown all over the place... she went back and forthe between tents because of room and she did better than any of them.... the last 2... the Ultra Lemon Hazes... one was grown mostly in 18/6 and the other 12/12 again due to space and I couldn't tell ya which one is which... Now I am certainly not the master of autos like Atrain... which I only know because of his enries in the POTM's... I don't really follow any "auto" journals... I will be honest and say I have been amazed at the auto and all but one or 2 that I hae grown have impressed me... They will grow in either tent I have room in... they require little to no work if you don't want to mess with them... and they seem to be getting heartier with better breeding as far as being able to manipulate them and I saw somewhere... can't remember who... but they have been successfully cloning them with good results... sorry for the long winded reply but IMO that is what kinda makes autos kewl... You can just kinda throw them anywhere and as long as you remember to water them... they will produce something... even if it's not a lot... something to tide ya over until you can get to a real harvest... If all I did was smoke... A couple of zips every few months is all I would need....:circle-of-love:

That is the exact price of an ounce at our local dispensary and the biggest reason I decided to try growing my own as opposed to just buying it. I want to use it to quit the narcotics but made the decision to try growing my own because of the extreme price at a dispensary.

Dang Dennise, who's cloning them? :cheertwo: I want to learn about that for sure! If you remember who it is, please do tell me.
I'm so new to these and the only real downfall for me has been the cloning thing, so that would really up my interest in growing more of them.

Dee, you're not disagreeing with me at all! We agree if you think about what I said. All this would be so much easier if we could all sit around a table, drink coffee, and discuss in real-time.

I'm not an auto hater. Smoke could start an auto in the bookcase and move it into the flower tent when it started to flower and get pretty good results. If he had the space to keep it in the bookcase once it started flowering for a couple of more weeks - after it got done with the the early flower stretch he would do even better. If he could grow an auto all the way through under a veg light schedule, he would do even better.

Just planting an auto and growing it from the get go under a 12/12 light schedule wouldn't give very good results, right?

Hiya Smokeater :ciao:

I usually drop by journals once or twice a day... so no way could I be a part of your back and forth conversations in real time ... That said, no worries because I have nothing to add that these excellent people have not said.

In general, try not to think too much about having screwed up the lighting, waited too long, missed a chance to, did exactly the wrong.. etc. You are being guided by people with wisdom, experience and expertise. You are being responsible and aware. Most of the things that can go wrong, won't go wrong :)
You are now embarking on the most rewarding and most difficult part of growing on :420: magazine - spending more time talking about and learning about growing than actual time growing - because let's face it. The plants do the growing and they only grow so fast.

It's fun coming by here and watching the show.

I absolutely concur....:Namaste:.....:circle-of-love:

The first round of autos I tried, I did the 12/12 light schedule from the get go. I wasn't impressed with the end results, they were okay...but I expected more. Maybe it was the strains I chose, not sure.
That's why I'm trying the 20/4 schedule this time. So far so good....

It sure would be great to be sitting around a table yakking with ya'll...

I'm not worried Radogast, I just have questions about things I don't know yet (or misunderstood, like the lighting). I have full faith in everyone that's guiding me, I just get curious about some things and asked about it. I never meant too cause such a ruckus with just a question. I know how busy all of you guys are and hate making you guys scramble to find an answer to a question I was just curious about.

I do have 1 question and don't want anyone to have to search around or go to any trouble about it. Once they've started going into flower mode like mine in the tent, approximately when does the odor get real strong? Please don't go out of your way to find out if you don't know just off the top of your heads please.
