My First Time Growing

I'll probably be around . It's hard to say when I'm not actually growing.

Sorry I talk so 'teachy' most of the time.

when I say

what I really do is

so I usually just say .. "Place the dry packs into a glass full of water"

Rad, I never read it as "teachy". I'm just grateful I still have you in my corner since you and Dennise are pretty much the only experienced growers that still stop by and post. Thank You so much for always being there when I need help.

Woops, Just noticed I did a double post, sorry!

What Rad said all the way...:high-five: the 62% humidity packs works amazingly well and the packs stay liquid for a really long time... I've got some I have been using for over 2 years and they aren't crispy in the least... Out of all of them I have I think maybe 2 got hard on me and that's because I left them out of any kind of container in the secretary and this is an old drafty house... They didn't last to long.... don't do that...:thedoubletake:
The pics you posted for me were perfect and IMO she is ready to chop.... She doesn't look like she is swollen still and I don't see any new pistols so I think you're there my friend....:high-five:....:circle-of-love:

I'm going to give them a shot as soon as I have the opportunity. Between you and Rad saying such good things about the Boveda packs, I am positive they will work great.

Thank you Dennise, I did chop her today since she was dated to be chopped today anyways. Got quite a bit off her. I can't wait to see what it weighs once it's dried. But thanks Dennise, I appreciate all the help you have given me so far and hope to be able to continue asking you guys stuff when I have a problem or questions now that most of the regulars aren't around anymore.

If you haven't noticed, I'm kind of shy when I'm on someone else's thread and usually only post stuff that is to show concern for someone I care about and I'm worried if I ask questions elsewhere, people will think I sound dumb or off topic or worse, they suggest I buy something because they don't know my background or financial problems and all I've accomplished is to waste someone elses time who is just trying to help me.

Enough of that negative talk, I have some Truthband dried already and I'm going to smoke a bowl & feel better.
:thanks:

Good Day all! I have a question about defoliating my girls. I haven't tried this yet but wanted to ask you guys if it's OK to defoliate them while in veg? The last few days, every time I open the tent my wife tells me the house smells of weed (the inside of the tent is ventilated outside but when it's open it lets all the odor out inside the house ). That's why I'm wondering if I can defoliate the girls in veg so I don't have to worry about the smell from opening the tent as much, plus I can do it from my recliner and would be easier on my back pain. I also noticed a difference in number of buds on the girls that were defoliated vs the ones I had stopped defoliating because it hurt to do it. Hopefully, later today I will post pics of each of the girls, but I'm having a rough day physically (nothing to worry about, sometimes I just hurt worse than other days) but will try to get those pic's up later if I can. Also I just wanted to say I'm sorry that I'm always having problems physically and that I'm not here as much.

Do you scrap the sides of the stem and use cloning gel Jimmie... I honestly haven't done any clones in a while but that's how I did it and it took 7-10 days.....:circle-of-love:

Nope, I just take a cutting, get it wet, dip in rooting hormone powder and cross my fingers. I've put 'em straight into soil, into water, and into the bubble cloner and they all come out the same. I think I need to scrape the sides and get gel instead of the old powder that I have. I bet that's what I need to change. :thanks::circle-of-love:

You nailed it with scraping the stems, Dennise. Today is day 8 and I have roots! I still don't have cloning gel, but my powder worked fine with the scraping. That's the quickest ever for me! :thumb::thanks:

Smokey I would say that I really don't do a lot of defoliating. In the hands of an expert it can be a good choice but really those fan leaves are the sugar factories and nutrient storage systems in the plant. If you look at my plants in flower you will see very little defol and they look fantastic and make nice buds. Often when I see defoliated plants the sugar leaves begin to brown. The plant often undergoes a nutrient deficiency late in flower. So if the fan leaves have been removed the only place left a plant can steal nutrients from is the sugar leaves. I don't know about you but I don't want that to happen. Sugar leaves maybe the best part of the bud!

The answer though is that you may defoliate in veg for sure. For me I like to remove whole branch sections, not just fan leaves to get the shape of plant that I want.

I love the idea of those boveda packs. I want to get some, too. :thumb:

I bought a couple of these from the pet store, they're in the reptile section. I kept opening the jars till the humidity stayed down at 60%. Now they're under 50%. Those gel packs are just what I need to get the humidity back up there.

These little suckers are cheap, so they're not very accurate, but I found a way to calibrate them by wrapping in a damp towel for a while, then manually adjusting the pointer to read 95%. Again, having those gel packs will tell me if that did the trick. I can't wait to get them!

Thanks Shiggity, I won't defoliate them anymore. I appreciate it. I really do.
I did defol one plant in the tent because it wasn't producing hardly any thick branches and I thought it just needed more light because of all the leaves blocking it. After reading your post Shiggity, I realize I may have screwed up the plant when I removed the fan leaves, but we'll see what happens.

I will be posting pic's of all the girls as soon as I'm feeling up to it and my son gets home from work.

Thank you!

Just play with it a little. Experiment with minor defol and compare it to the non defol. Defol is fine, we all have our style. I just want you to try different things and find your style. You may love defol in the end. You may hate it. Experimenting is 90% of the fun. I just threw out that to challenge your brain. You are becoming a better grower every day my friend. You should be proud of the trichs on these latest buds!!!
:high-five:

Smoke... No disrespect to Shigg but as you know I defol my girls like pole dancers...:). I was taught to do it between days 21-25 and day 45 and for the most part have done it to every girl I've grown... We are giving the girls what they need so it's not as important that they keep their fans IMO... I have done a side by side with defol vs not... I harvested considerably more on the defol girl...:circle-of-love:

I'm so glad you posted that Jimmie. The one I've had in the cloner I forgot to scrape this time. So I scraped it after reading your post. The clone is looking real good on top, almost as good as if it was planted. So I know it's still kicking strong.

Thanks Dennise! I will have to rethink about not defoliating. Shiggity says it's possible to do while in veg (what started the whole conversation) but I don't quite understand the timetable. Is it when the plants are 21-25 days old and again when they are 45 days old or is it the amount of days in flower?

Thanks Dennise!

Thank you Shiggity, Now with your new advice and Dennises advice, I'm going to try mildly defoliating the next one that's going to go into the tent. I am EXTREMELY happy with all the trichs on the Truthband, When I harvested it, I wore surgical gloves and when I got done harvesting, I had so much Scissor hash I had a hard time cleaning it off with soap and water and you should have seen how brownish & sticky the fingers of the gloves were. The Amnesia is loaded with trich's now also. When I post the pics later, I'll do a close up of a bud on the Amnesia. I think it has even more trichs that the truthband!

I'm quite happy to read that the Truthband is nice for you Smokey! Looking forward to pics, and congrats on yet another harvest. :)

I'm a regular, and I'm still around....I just got a bit sidetracked and busy there for awhile.

I'm reading back to see what you got popped and going. Happy happy joy joy....

I do defoliation during veg stage to open thing up a bit, not so much during flowering. Just my tid bit there.

ROFL, I should have read the remainder of the posts on the Recharging. I see that got covered well.

Just catching up here.

I am so happy to see you back here. I've been following your thread and know how busy you are with the new job and I am just happy to hear from you.

Okay, I have to ask....what did you do with the scissor hash?
I use a pocket knife to scrape it carefully off my scissors, being careful not to hit the blade edge of the scissors so I don't damage them.

That's exactly what I asked about earlier (Can I defol in veg), Due to the odor when I open the tent with the flowering girls inside, you can smell it all through out the house and that's bad for any grower with medical problems that may have to call 911 for help. I just figured that since in veg none of mine have smelled much yet, If I could defol while in veg I wouldn't have the problem of having to open the tent to defol.
