Mono's Perpetual Soil

Plants are starting to get close to the lights. Can't decide if it's a good or bad thing haha

I think she just needs to grow out of it. One of my serious 6 plants acted the same way. Maybe run ph adjusted water through her? They always like a little lemon juice in some water, it acts like humic acid. I take a real lemon, cut it and put a few drops in some water.

That's a great idea! I have given them water that sits at exactly 7.1 so I think I will add some lemon juice.

Couple of questions.

Why do u take clones so far into flower period? In my experience it takes longer to root, u have to factor time in for reveg and there is that higher chance of hermying. I really dont like doing that, infact i never would these days.

The light situation for veg, imo u would be far better runnin a MH bulb, whether its a 400w or 600w doesnt matter too much. One think to bear in mind is that the MH produces a little more heat than HPS but i think the veg results are amazing. Its much more intense light than CFL's. U get really tight node spacing and bushy plants that just explode in flower. Fluros are ok for cloning but imo they are not great for vegging. They do work but light intensity is weak and veg time takes longer than using cfl's and longer again than MH.

Leave ur autos 18/6 that will give u the best results from my experience. But i hate autos, regular strains are much better. The only auto i seen that was any good was big bang from greenhouse seeds but even then u couldnt convince me to grow them again unless i was maybe going to do an outdoor grow and wanted a faster turn around.

Pineapple chunk is a nice strain to smoke but i dont like to grow it because yields are poor compared to the other strains i grow. Ive just done 2 rounds with it in a hydro set up. The quality was beautiful, really nice fruity smell but its about half the yield i'd get from A.M.S and Trainwreck. Even my ice strain that is pretty low yielding compared to those two gave more than the pineapple per m2. I like to find the balance between a high yielding with quality. very hard to find super high yielding strains that produce best quality but i think ive found a good balance with the main strains that i grow.

Finally, have u ever though of venturing into the world of hydro? its super simple to do and imo much more rewarding than soil. i hear people say all the time that hydro quality isnt the same as soil but i would argue that fact and say the quality of the hydro or soil grow comes down to the person growing it and what they put in there.

But looking decent mate. keep it up bro.

I generally try and only take clones while in veg. The previous batch were taken as a last ditched effort to preserve a strain that my wife really liked. Double berry, horrible yielding plant, but nice fruity buds. Fortunately out of the 10 clones taken there was no hermies, however they took around 6 weeks to begin vegetative growth again so was a really long turn around on the grow. I agree taking them in flower, especially that late was rather pointless and i doubt I will do it again haha.

I'm certainly going to look into a MH for veg, although it's a small veg tent so might have to go for something more like a 250 watt heat issue wise. Not sure if a 250watt MH would be much better than 400 watt cfl?

I am also not a fan of auto flowering plants, only success I have had in the past was an og auto that came as a free seed, yielded just over an ounce grown under a 600 watt hps once it randomly began flowering in the veg tent. Got these ones here to try and get some weed for the Christmas period. When they are done it will be my last go at them lol

Hydro is something I have considered, yet it seems to go straight over my head and I have no idea where to start so have just continued to plod along with soil...
 
u prob better off running 400w cfl than running 250w mh. hydro is so simple mate. maybe try running one dwc bucket alongside ur next grow. if it goes wrong it wont have cost much to set up (£20-30 max) but if u find u like it u'll see a whole new way to grow that gives amzing results. just food for thought mate.

Think I might have to start doing some research on the danky weed containers then haha. This is hopefully going to be a perpetual grow so might do another one of the pineapple chunk that way if I can get my head around the concept.
 
Hey Mono, Hope all is good and green for your garden. DWC does sound interesting dont it chap. I may be taking the plunge with it in new year. I'll be moving house soon after so I'll have more room to play. I'll be going all perpetual and starting to experiment etc!

Everything is coming along just right for once haha. Got some pics coming up in a few.

DWC does sound very interesting, may make a change from soil. Got a bit of research to do but may throw one in the mix. I think you will be able to do some amazing things if you take the jump to hydro LA.
 
that's quick man! I can get my healthy regulars to show sex in 2-3 weeks as well, but I'm eager to see if the autos finish faster.

plants look oh so healthy. i'll do an update of mine for you tonight :)

also i'm getting all 6k bulbs because the coating that turns the cfls organish kills the light intensity. I don't think it's just my eyes playing tricks.

The autos say it's meant to be 8 weeks from seed, I'm quite sceptical of that. More thinking that it will be 8-9 weeks from showing sex. We shall see :).

Hmm, I wasn't aware of that with cfls. So even thought the light is still working as such, the light intensity will lower throughout it's life? Think I might have to look into new bulbs then, been using these ones for about 18 months now on constant 18/6 lol

hehe, auto's will show sex much quicker than a regular seed as the regular seed has to reach maturity. Unless you run it 12/12 from seed. Should begin to see signs around week 3 or 4 of veg dresney :)
