haha, i actually laughed for a bit at that comment. Ive just been busy moving to my new place and all the other $hit that comes with it. I haven't had internet for a few days and Ive missed 4-5 pages! love the buds and cant wait for the $$ to harvest

hi siscokid i have a question for you......in your signature you have a scrog link to medical marijuana...can i ask have you done this type of grow before ?...im particularly interested in ....where he says you shud cut off all fan leaves leaving only colas in the light ...have you actually seen this done ? has anybody here ?...my understanding is this the fan leaves are the engine of the plant ie...the fan leaves collect the light and convert it into energy for the plant to grow and bud.....i ask these questions as if this method does actually work id like to try it now...this wud mean going into my grow room today and cutting off all fan leaves.............mmmmick im sorry for crashing your journal ......but i posted the same question on my journal.....and got no response...and if im gonna cut fan leaves off i need to do it quickly......thanks all for listening....weedtastic

What's good Mmmmick? I am looking for fridge pans to put my pots on, I know you prob. would want something like that on your next scrog too, or maybe you already have a plan for flushing if it ever needed it.
I don't want to have to rip my plants out if some Ph problem starts again, so I am doing some thinking ahead this time around. Just a little pan to catch the run-off in-case I want to check the run-off and to flush if need be.
Wish I could smoke my herb from a vape, I never tried it before but it sound very good.
Take em' easy and I'll be checking in later.
Hi sisko, yeah I am just using visqueen to line my trays, drainage out of the front of the tray into a pan. A slight angle on the tray and everything drains fine. It's a good idea to allow for flushing and the ability to check runoff. You may not need to flush but the runoff is important to check often.
I'm sure you would enjoy the clean taste from a vape. It's not as strong as regular smoke but it still gives good flavor.

Hi weedtastic, busy but not in the grow. Just too much to do when there's no partner to help out. Single guys have to do all the cooking, shopping, cleaning etc themselves. This time of year it seems there's so much extra to deal with. Enough excuses,lol, I've got pretty much everything done for now so I hope to get back into the swing of things and get the new closet finished.

I never make a plan for yield because I don't have the experience to estimate instead of just guessing. I just consider it a ll a bonus. I suppose I'll total maybe 2 1/4 oz when the last plant is dried, but it's still popping new pistils.

Thats good. You've been busy, moving this time of year can be hectic. I can't even put a timeframe on this last plant, soon would be good, lol.

I'd be interested in this as well. I think it's one of those issues that generates differing opinions. I've never read anything that actually demonstrated the benefit or drawback of trimming heavily. You could try trimming maybe 2 of your plants to give a comparison yield.

In ledtesters thread they cut the fan leaves per Cammies advise and they feel it retarded the plants growth.

hi mate after a week of reading just about everywhere...there is not one person i cud find that had actually done it....i think its a myth.....wot i do know is its like searchin for the holy grail....look a life time and still not find the answer....im hesitant in experimenting at this stage with 2 plants had i seen pics of it done and its results....to be beneficial...i wud of been into the grow already and stripped the lot off em all ...lol...ive even sent pms to really experienced growers and they choose to ignore my pm lmao.....thanks for trying to help out......be lucky weedtastic

Did you read ledtesters journal? Cammie told them she trims the fan leaves that are in the way of other buds and recommended they do it. They tried it on some of their plants under LED and felt it retarded the growth. It was the first time they had tried trimming fan leaves.

Hey OMM, no worries, just some company that required fulltime attendance. I appreciate your concern. Sometimes the single life is a little taxing but I find it so much less stressful,lol. Don't get me wrong, I think women are great, I'm just a poor judge of character when it comes to the fairer sex, heheh. And my friend drops in now and then to keep me making any serious mistakes, lol.

yeah lots of sources but no real info. I'm kind of middle of the road on the trimming issue. I would take a few now and then to keep things from geting too thick, but during flower definitely minimal removal. I guess every grow is different so those who trim might feel it is good/bad but unless the trim is on part of a grow while the rest is left natural it's still only opinion. If I was growing without the screen I would try it on some of my plants to see if there is an obvious difference in yield/growth.
While there are a lot of growers here that are helpful, I think many only answer what interests them. I would at least respond with a quick acknowledgement if I couldn't answer a question. Then again I don't know how busy these folks are.

I haven't been there recently but I recall a few posts about that issue. At the time I believe I got the impression that they took the leaves off in one shot and I could see that impacting developement. I would take a few every now and then to keep things clear but not too heavy.
I don't know how they would be able to tell the growth was retarded, but I don't have as much experience as they do. Plants don't grow steadily throughout their lives. Spurt of growth, a slow stretch, another spurt. It's all opinion until I actually see it happen for myself. Some of the folks testing leds seem biased toward failure imo, not saying ledtester is one of those.

You do make some good points. Maybe removing a few leaves here and there might not be bad. I think the reason they say it retarded the growth was because they are using clones. The ones that they trimmed the leaves must have lagged behind or something.

I haven't had a chance to reread the thread. It's quite possible that they had a plant or two to compare. I'll get back over there a little later to have another look. It would be great to see a comparison to sort out the myth from the magic.

I think from what I have read, the thought from people whose grows I respected and want to emulate is that fan leaves are not only good producers of food stuff that becomes bud, but are an easy source of food for the plant to draw on during growth spurts and problems, removing them is forcing the plant to solely rely on the roots system for emergency food.
The solution if you feel they are retarding undergrowth is to tie them down below the bud growth so even if they aren't getting to produce food for you, at least the plant still has them for a backup source for the plant to draw on especially during final push.
Anyway, that's just what I read and it made sense to me. Especially seeing how the fan leaves take the brunt of my mistakes without letting that mistake harm my cute little buds. Just my 2 centavos.
