Mmmmick 1st Scrog 3 strains 90w LED closet

Hi Bux, I'm looking forward to the Super Skunk in particular but curious about the other 2 strains. I want to see how they compare to the first round.
The smell issue is quite likely normal, it's just that I've read so many journals where the grower has the great smell through most of their grow and they are nuting all the way through, sometimes maxed out. If I can find nutes that don't impact smell I'll switch. I haven't even ruled out molasses or SuperThrive as the culprit but I'll play a little once I have 2 screens running. As long as the smell comes back with a good flush and cure I'm good.
I haven't had to fire up my filter yet. I have mixed feelings about that.:rasta:

Yea I hear you on the mixed feelings. I cant imagine buds that look that good not smelling to high heaven after the cure. I like not having to have my filter on my cab. When I have the filter on the temps go up more then 10 F which puts me over 85 F.

I had planned on using mason jars to cure mine but after reading your journal I am curious about these vac jars. Is it worth it to buy one of those vacuum pumps and some vaccum jars? Does it effect the curing process or end result?

85 is getting up there. There's some conjecture concerning plants under led being able to take higher temps, but I'd have to prove that to myself. Roots at higher temps likely still feel the heat.
I will cure in reg mason jars, also. The vac jars would be used for longer term storage after the cure is well established. I believe the benefit is in longer storage of the finished product, frozen after sealing.

The reason I dont want my cab over 85 is because the reservoir gets way too warm. I am already fighting root rot because of the fogger that was in the reservoir. My plants that are in the tent are growing at about 90F and they love it but I have a chiller keeping the reservoir at 68. I think the plants like the warmer temp under the LED. I am going to have to look into the vac jars. They sound pretty neat and I was wondering how to store my stash!

Yes the plants under led seem to have no problem with higher canopy temps. Cooler roots are probably happier.
I think the vac jars should be a good way to freeze your bud for longer term. I picked up a relatively cheap Rival unit with an accessory port to deal with the jars. Should be ok for my needs at about a third the price of some units.

Been looking for the vac jars, haven't found any yet but Walmart may have them stashed in a corner. I'll cure in regular preserve jars and move to vac jars if available or vac bags if necessary for longer storage. My sealer has the attachment for jars if I can find 'em. Costco opening up here very soon, they'll probably have a better assortment.

Hey thanks for the info you sent me!!

The sealer for the jars is available at amazon

you can use them with either a vacuum food sealer, a high powered shop vac, or one of the vacuum hoses on your car. I bought a automotive hand pump vacuum tester and use the 1/2 gallon mason jars that you can get at any Ace Hrdw but any wide mouth jar will work, might make more sense to use the pint or the quart wide mouths, a half gallon holds 1/4 pound nicely. I think they are 10 bucks for 6 of the 1/2 gallon. If Ace doesnt have them at the store they will order them from their catalog with no shipping charge.

nice find brother!!

Here's an Idea for the DIYer's:

Use mayonaise jars with a Brass or Plastic hose barb fitting, use a Hand pump Vacuum pump you can buy at any autoparts store. Drill a hole, screw the fitting in will make it's on threads and a little silicone sealer for good measure. The Vac pumps have a Guage pull a vacuum on the Jar and watch the Gauge to see if it leaks. Use more Vacuum Hose a "T" Fittings to make a 2, 4, 10 20 jar daisey Chain for a large Grow!

Mason Jars would probably work even better with the Steel Lid!

Leave the Pump hooked up to monitor seal!

mayonnaise jars aren't made to take a vacuum like canning jars are.

That adapter that I linked up above will let you pull about 15 in/hg That is a pretty strong vacuum. For bigger batches and a stronger vacuum I use a pressure canner. What you do is place as many jars of buds as you can in it, set the sealing lid on the jars and put the rings on lightly, close the pressure cooker and where the steam would normally vent out of the cooker you slip some tubing on and then apply whatever source of vacuum you want. When you reach the max. vacuum you pop the hose off and the air rushing in seals the jars with a vacuum inside them. The vacuum will be strong enough that you will have to use a can opener to pop the lid off.

The jars usually come with the seals and rings. The whole process takes about 30 seconds. The hardest part is filling the jars with bud. You see used pressure cookers all over now because no one cans stuff anymore. Next time I do a batch I will post some pics.

hi mate just a thought.....you guys are storing your jars in the dark right ?...........my last 2 grows i stored in masonry jars as well as a vaccume jar..........i found the vaccume jar kept its smell better......it has a vacume lid on it so no need to suck any air out........just thought id share my knowledge guys...........be lucky weedtastic

hi mmmmick i was just looking at your clones...........i noticed you have bent them over......can i sugest that you actually snap bend one of your clones like i did on my first grow ......i think you will be suprized how much stronger they grow after a supercroping.......just a thought mate.......on the whole they look great....do i see a little yellowing of the leaves ?.....i had to give my ladies epsom salts in veg (they have had no nutes to this point )......first time ive given epsoms in veg thou.....but as usual they responded great....im looking forward to your next grow already ha ha....how are your buds doing ?....when is harvest date ?....you can tell im back......with all the questions ha ha.............be lucky weedtastic :nicethread:

Hi borntorun, thanks for the info, I'll have a look. Don't think I'll need the half gallon jars, lol. Although one never knows.

I like DIY. I'm not sure how well regular jars would hold a vacuum but it might be worth a try. Have to let that silicone cure quite some time to make sure there's no residual smell.
Thanks for the ideas Stealthtire.

hi weedtastic, I did exactly that, I remember our talks. I mentioned in my post that they were trained and cropped but I guess I didn't make it clear that the supercropping was done at the bends of the plants. Got one pic to show it, the others are buried, too hard to get pics.

yeah there is a little yellowing on some leaves. It's old damage from when the clones were smaller but the leaves weren't fried so I left them on the plant. They've only been in the new pots a short while and supplemented with sheep manure this time so I shouldn't have to add any nutes for a while. I'm trying to stay away from nutes unless necessary to see if the smell is better this time around. First grow had great smell until the repot in flower. I started using Botanicare and SuperThrive at the same time and thought the repot was what killed the smell but further evidence points at nutes or SuperThrive. Time will tell.
Harvest date was last Sunday for 2 of them, update coming up. Had some computer problems the last 4 days or so, couldn't stay online more than a couple of minutes. I think it's fixed now. Got some catching up to do.
Welcome back, I hope your new isp treats you better.:welcome:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time for a mini update.

I cut the screen away from my plants to get access to ensure everything was going all right this close to finishing. Found a little mold on some of the Afi lower buds which I couldn't see with the screen in place. So I decided to harvest the 2 Afi's after trimming the moldy buds. Didn't lose more than a litle popcorn. Humidity has been under 50% since the mold struck a while back and I think the affected parts were just hidden from my attempts to spray everything, but I didn't want to take any chances.
I was looking for a little amber but I'm willing to settle for 100% cloudy trichs. I went all over the plants with my scope and a loupe to see if there's any mold on the rest of the plant but didn't find more than a couple of tiny spots which I cut out. They're hanging now so I'll know in a day or two if I missed anything.
The BC Big Bud had a couple of lower buds affected also but nothing on the rest of the plant so I removed the small damged buds and put the plant back under the led. The Super Skunk is immune, it seems, to mold and all the other abuse I've bestowed on these plants. Couldn't find a spot of mold anywhere on that one.

pics aren't great, sorry, I had other things on my mind. I did get a couple of pics before chopping. Actually Afi 1 was stuck back in the pot for a couple of pics after I chopped it. Almost forgot completely.
pics 1 and 2 are Afi 1 (right foreground in all previous pics)
pics 3 and 4 are Afi 2 (right rear in all previous pics)

comments and opinions welcome, as always.

Look like you got yourself some nice looking bud, Great catch on the mold and great job all around. Enjoy + rep

Great job bro, Those ladies are looking great!!

I got 1 ?. Did the screen produce more buds I was just wondering?

Thanks Mi.
Well my first attempt was so screwed it's hard to say but I think this time the buds developed more fully. I did chop early last time tho. My general sense is that the screen did produce more.
