Mini Green House Grow

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Those were taken with a tripod and using a 2 second shutter delay to avoid shake.

I think you nailed it with needing more light. It was too dark and shutter speed was too slow.

thanks for the tips sonzor!

I'm gonna get it dialed in more for the next trich check.

Increasing magnification causes dimming as the available light has been spread out in the image. Increasing the light is what is needed. Besides just increasing the illumination, slowing the shutter speed will help in gathering enough light. Think about how night time photography is done. Shutters are left open in order to expose the film or CCD to enough photons.

A high shutter speed is good if you have a fast moving object. You sacrifice color and contrast by going that route I believe.

I agree about shutter speeds munki. It was just that it was *way* dark and the slow shutter speed at 120X produced fuzziness even using the 2 second delay. I think there was still enough vibration present with the camera mounted on a tall tripod to throw off the focus.

At that magnification, with the camera on a tripod, even a fart produces blur.

My camera has autofocus and I think that is the cause of blurry shots when I go telephoto. To ensure my pics are clear, I back off the magnification as much as I can. See if you can only add the macro lens without additional magnification. Also, lower the F stop number as much as you can. Should improve the depth of field which can be an issue when photographing the trichs in 3D space.

EDIT: Looking at your pics again, I would put the issue to a small depth of field as there are well defined portions in the pictures.

I'm not following munki, bear with me.

If I just add the 10X macro extender lens and don't use any magnification, I would only be working with 10X, or am I missing something?

It sounds like you've photographed a trich or two, so any suggestions are very appreciated!

thanks brother ;)

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

GREAT grow man!! there is so much to read here! i started reading but wanted to go back and read through your first journal fully then come back and read through everything here.
great work!

this might be in here, but there are 65 pages to go through, so i might find the answer eventually, but i was curious:
How did you notice the growth of the plants outside in the green house before moving them inside, compared to your first grow of just growing inside starting from seed??
would be a great way for starting plants without using any lights, instead of the other way around of starting then putting them outside, (especially for me up in alaska with short summers but almost 24 hours of daylight)

Not sure what camera you are using and what option you have but I think you are on the correct track. Add some more light, keep it on the tripod and if you can put it on shutter priority and lower it as low as you can. You should get a pretty clear pic. The ones you did take are not that bad so I am pretty sure you are close. Good luck

Nope, I don't think that's in here.

The plants vegged outside in the greenhouse were more robust and vigorous, with thicker stems and much larger leaves. They grew faster and bigger, and generally looked really happy. If you look at those pics early in the journal of them vegging in the greenhouse, they are green as can be and always reaching for the sky. They love the sun.

They looked like that from the day they sprouted until the day they got burned in the heat wave.

I don't see why you couldn't veg outside and bloom inside. This grow is only one data point, but it worked OK.

thanks for your kind words, mesrone!

I'm glad you found useful info ;)

I'll refer back on my next trich check and apply those suggestions.

thanks bro!

good quality pics help to communicate data clearly.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

noice pics bro.

lovin the macro, will make it easy for you to get an accurate percentage.
lol, someone should write some software to analyze the heads and get percentages. would be simple recognition software.

Loupes and pocket microscopes just don't give me the same level of confidence that I get from decent macros.

I'd give that software a sideways glance ;).

You have grown some fine, fine weed here bro. Excellent job. :ganjamon:

It's been a sublime trip.

thank you doc

yeah it was great, im working my way through the journal now. but yeah i think it would be a cool concept to not just flower outside but use the sun as the wrlds best veg light, then pul em when the weather starts aturnin.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

That might be my grow next year. This weather has turned to crap, it can kill a grow if you don't constantly monitor it. When I was fighting that mold, I would cut a big chunk of the bud off to get rid of it, and come back in a couple hours and it would be right back. Problem was it was so big, it wouldn't fit in my closet that I plan on using for a indoor this winter.

It got so big from vegging outside. If you want huge plants, outdoor veg is the way to go I think. I might have to clean out the storage room down stairs instead of that closet, hmm...

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Hey SS,

Do you have a C02 generator?
I found them for 299 online. You can use them with a timer, or if you have the bucks with a PPM controller.

I think it might take you from Jedi to Jedi Master in under an hour.

I do not have CO2.

I was thinking of rigging up a ghetto milk bottle system, but my exhaust fans would overwhelm pretty much any CO2 system unless I have either automated or apply some manual fan control. Maybe switch to a pc exhaust fan while the CO2 is on.

thanks for the heads-up! I didn't know that decent systems had become so affordable.

Are you generating enough heat so that the fan runs all the time?

My generator fills the whole room to 1200 PPM in about 20 seconds. I hope you figure out a way to rig it. I really think it helps.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Hi, setting sun. IMHO you are doing pretty decent so far, actually you've been an inspiration for many of us. What do you really think about CO2 supplementation and do you plan something about "goin' on da next level" ?:surf: And btw thanks for keepin eye on my humble grow, brother:thankyou:
