Millertm's - Girl Scout/Cinex - Grow Journal - 4'x4'x6.8' Tent - 2015

Millertm,
Amazingly frosty ladies my friend.
Whats more remarkable is how well they grow sideways. :)

So Water and fed last night all was well. Got up early for some reason and went to check the tent temp out of habit. 66F, Hmm, seems a bit cold so I look at the ceiling for the intake vent light print and its dark. I am now just thinking "I hope its just the light", so I pop the tent and see a small light pocket on the bottom corner of tent. My dehumidifier power supply has a green light. The only color that will not stress your plants. Well I still covered it and now its gone. Nevertheless, It was just the bulb. I guess running a 600W HPS bulb at 840W is a bad thing. Well it was working when I had my cooltube running 12H with the light and kept the operating temp down. Remember I had sniped my thermostat and had to run my cooling and venting 12H, last 4 days. When I automated my cooling again last night I'm guessing it got to hot and blew. I was running 800W and it lasted but I got 6 weeks out of the bulb. Moreover, I need 1000W anyway. I was not happy with the light coverage with the 600W bulb. If my plants were smaller and in control a 600W bulb would be fine. Here are a few shots of the carnage.

I'm not going to worry about what I can not change and I got the light changed and tent closed before bed time for the Girls. They most likely did not get much light last night. Lights on tonight at the normal time and I'll look in and see how we are doing. BTW the 1000W HPS bulb is way brighter at 840W then the 600W bulb. I'm now going to finish out this flowering at 1000W.

Update time, First off 1000W HPS puts out a lot of heat. 3214 BTU's will keep a non AC equiped Tent warm. I guess I just have to hear the ducting fan and extraction fan running longer and I turned up the fan speed on both fans. I'm now running fans at 3/4 power rather then 1/2 and tent will sty at 75'ish (+/- 2deg) My thermostat is set at 75 but will cool to 73 then shut off and heat will jump to 76 or so before fans can start to drop the temp. Moreover, the 1000W bulb is longer then the 600W bulb and the heat profile around the cooltube is different. I had to drop one shoot because it was too close and failed the back of the hand test. Bud sites are all looking well post light burnout and I;m getting the tents heat and cooling cycles under control. Here are the update shots from this morning.

Thanks Beast, its getting to be a lot of work but It will be worth it.

Tjernlund M-6 Inline Duct Booster Fan, Hydroponic Blower Heat Air Conditioning Vent Exhaust, 530 CFM, 6"

Works great, 1.2A, I have two 90 deg turns in my tent ducting. My tent is made for bare bulb and I am running cooltube.

Well Dialed in at 1000W, I must say that it was nice to practice with a 600W bulb to get my ducting in order and learn to control heat. I must have spent hours on my ducting and since everything at home depot is $5, it's safe to say I spent too much. Nevertheless, I'm able to keep the tent at 75 deg with out using any AC. Bottom floor bedroom and its cold at night when the lights are running with the room staying at about 68 deg. However, plants are loving the higher PAR from the 1000W, but the Ushio Opti-red had a fuller color falling into the golden light more then yellow light where my Apollo 2000K, HPS looks more white or somewhat warmer light. I'm getting an Opti-Red bulb after I finish off this grow. Word to the wise, those Opti-Red or added blue bulbs run much hotter then there standard MH or HPS. If you are close on heat control, you might want to keep away from those bulbs. Well here are today's Pix.

Only two Cinex, Second and next to last. Those are 38/57 days and will get their last Fert feeding tonight when they wake up. The rest are all Girl Scout at 38/72 days. Many flowering sites but not much Buds on them, lots of stalk space between buds. I'm thinking dry ice hash for the leafs and stems that are frosted. I was told that GSC was a low yielding plant but I'll see when its all done. Cinex is very fat and dense, I might grow her again.

Nightly update, I double fed the Girls last night, since they are going into week 7 on Wednesday so its H20 and Big Bloom only from now on. Since I have dropped the Grow Big from my feed my PH has been 6.0. I'm using Cha-Ching and Tiger Bloom at F. eeding strength found on there website not the bottle. However, I use the heavy feeding 0.5 cup per Gal on the Big Bloom pretty much every feeding and will keep using it through out the life of these girls.

Let me say one thing, if you are not using a 1000W light, go get one and use it. My plants so love the extra light, I was at 50W sq/ft and doing well but now at 62.5W sq/ft its crazy. I have a cheap 2000K HPS most likely close to the same $15 HPS light you get at Home Depot but it came with the light setup that I got and it works great. Its not the fancy Opti-Red, which I will be getting and then It will be a back up but it is killing it with the tent. Here are the day after feedng pix, and they were fed on Wednesday but Fox Farms is gentle if you know how to use it correctly and have the correct water to use for its PH setting. Here are the Pix.

As you can see, all is well in the new 1000W cheap HPS tent.

It looks like some tri's are going amber but it's way to soon. But I'm happy so far into this learning experience.

It's an awesome looking learning experience.

Somehow I don't remember homework being this rewarding...
