Mel's ViparSpectra XS 2000 Sponsored Grow - Blueberry & Northern Lights

Good day so far, so there's not much to say.
I've started to lower the light a little bit at a time to make sure they're getting all the light they can use, but I might go back up a bit and turn up the intensity instead.
Maintain the wider footprint.

Thanks sjb!

Thanks DV8!
I'm thinking about those corners too. Raising the light and upping the intensity should make sure they get enough light to finish well.
I'm really liking this light. It doesn't get too hot, and even at 50% it puts out enough light to keep the internodes nice and tight during veg, with the light 60cm from the canopy.
I'm impressed so far.

Thanks Tra!
I can't wait for the smell to kick in!
On the sixth picture I saw 👀 some yellowing, was that a little nute burn Mel? They all look fantastic btw. CL🍀:goodjob::thumb::Namaste:

Thanks for the insight.
Each strain will have it's own tray and screen. I have two rooms, so I'll grow two strains and when they're done, I'll run the next two strains. The Golden Tiger should be a beast. I'll flip the lights between 14 and 21 days from sprout. I will pretty much always run the long flowering Sativas on the 2nd run so I can calmly let them go until they are ready without worrying about the next crop since nothing will go into the tray until the next spring.
If you don’t mind please tag me too, I think we’re both Sativa lovers and it’d be cool to see you grow them. CL🍀:woohoo::thumb::thanks::Namaste:

Beautiful plants.
They look like they are a bit cold.
But other than that they look amazing.
Thanks kb!
The tent recently started getting down to 18C with the lights off, so I put in a heat mat at lights out to warm things up a bit.
All the flowering pics are from lights on. The lights on temp is usually about 24C or a little higher, and the IR diodes on the light help to keep the leaf surface temp higher.
I'm sure they'd be happy with warmer temperatures.

Sounds like a great plan!
I will tag you. I welcome everyone too.

The Zkittlez is having a similar issue to the plants in the DSD grow, where some of the nutrients, mostly P and calcium, seem to cycle in and out of range, independent of what I give them nutrient wise.
I had been thinking it was a problem with the soil, but the Blueberry hasn't been affected as much.
She does have a couple of landraces as parent strains though, and they seem to be a bit tougher than heavily bred strains.
I don't have much of that soil left, and have bought new soil for the upcoming outdoor season, so we'll see if it was the soil or a grower error then.
I'll be growing 3 autos in pots, so if I am at fault it should be obvious pretty quickly.

:)

They look good.
Yeah, a bit warmer would make them happier, but they still look pretty well taken care of.

There's a significant hotspot there when you look at the ppfd chart. The clones were quite a bit shorter than these two, so it wasn't a problem for them, but they also had excellent node spacing, showing that the intensity there is quite high. I'm trying to maintain the best ppfd levels over the bulk of the plants.
Of course I'm judging that by growth instead of measurements.
It's probably time to download the Photone app.
Thanks! Have you seen light burn in the middle or are you avoiding it based on the charts? Would rotating the plants 90°/day help if there's no burning?

No burn, but there was a bit of light stress on the Blueberry at lights off early on when she and the Zkittlez were on the box in the centre. I backed the light off slightly then, which helped the DSD #33 with the footprint as well.

The conditions in the room the tent is in are almost impossible to change over the winter, but it has the advantage of being really steady.

They are still going to finish pretty good.
Have you considered to maybe grow strains that like colder temps in the colder months?
Yes, Blueberry is known for being a good strain for cooler areas, as is Northern Lights. That's one reason why I chose them. I really wish the NL seedling had survived, but it wasn't to be.
I usually choose strains that do well in continental climates, which is what Southern Ontario is listed as, although I haven't seen any strain that doesn't have a Mediterranean climate listed as the ideal.
I didn't do as much research on Zkittlez as I should have when I chose it as a replacement, but I was interested in the terpene profile, and wanted to grow a strain that was new to me.
I think I should have gone with Cherry Bomb, but I'm planning to grow that outdoors in the ground this summer.

Oh...Zkittlez is not an easy one to grow.
Picky plant.
It doesn't have big yield.
But whatever it produces is heavenly.
Really nice strain.

Girls are doing well today. Blueberry has started putting on some frost.
They should start smelling soon.

Good to know. I'm growing these two mainly for vaping, so I don't need lots of mass. I also have a bunch from this past summer's grow.
I have one more seed of this one from my last Herbie's order, so depending on how this turns out we may be growing it again soon.

How can you tell if a plant is cold?

Not that it really gets cold by forum terms where I live, but I’m interested how you can tell that.

Do you see the curling leaves?
When they start looking like a saw (if that makes sense), like their tips become super sharp looking, that means that they are feeling cold.

edit: I'll add a picture to make it more clear, because my explanations are like I am a second grader...lol

Hmmmm

I can’t actually see what you mean.

Can you show me which pic?

I've scratched some fish bone meal in to the soil of the Zkittlez. It's high P, zero K, with a decent amount of Calcium. I didn't use much, but hopefully that'll help.

No problem!
It's normal not to know what they look like if they are cold especially if you live on a place where it doesn't get too cold.
Hmm. I haven't noticed that outdoors, but we all know they seem to be a lot hardier out there. And I haven't been looking for it.
I'll keep an eye out this Autumn, but it'll probably just be the Cherry Bomb out there by the time any cold weather arrives.

It happens otdoors too but it's not that easy noticeable, I guess because they are sturdier as you said.
