Medscientist's Outdoor Lab 2024

I can't wait to see the monster you make @MedScientist are you going to top them at the 4th to 5th node too for maximum bud sights?
I flipped My SideChick to 12/12 Two days ago. I am trying to see if I can grow a SMALL plant, hopefully ALL Bud! I want to find the sweet spot for Harvesting 3 to 4+ ounces per plant, with minimal effort. The ViparSpectra xs1500pro can handle that Easy.

When I grew for several Patients and myself, my Perpetual setup was on a 2 month rotation. I NEVER saw small plants! I traded my hoods for cool tubes because the 🪴 plants would tend to hit the 7 ft ceilings. Although, the plant 🪣 buckets were raised 12 inches to accommodate the gravity res.

When I start from Fem seeds, I ❤️ the idea of Quadlining! And growing Short plants.

Nice recovery after a night of stripping, and the greenhouse is loaded with flowers! How much warmer is it at night than the air outside of it?
So I checked the temp in the tent this morning. The weather app said it got down to 61F last night, and the tent was at 70F.

I am happy to see it retains some heat, because September 1, the forecast drops temps to 70F days, but 50F nights.

But you never know! With HAARP, we could see better Temps. I am not Sold on Climate Change as the reason for this last years Severe storms and weather.

Last year we had a tornado in california lol and it was in my county... climate change is terrifying.

Tornadoes Suck! Thankfully I never been in one, but I was affected by those Straight Line winds twice this year with major tree damage. Luckily for me, the worst damage was next door.

❤️ Took some night Flash shots! Night photography Excites ME! ❤️

I know it is supposed to drop down to around 50F at night after September 1st for atleast the 1st week. The tent does retain some heat, but I am wondering if I would need to throw a heater in there? Or would that create too much condensation on the plastic tent and/or plants?

I am not too sure how well they pack on Bud at those temps, but I don't think they would be harmed?

Now that I think about it, I should have just asked @Bill284, he deals with this. Sorry about just tagging you there! Too STONED to have to retype this on my phone! ❤️

Garden looks great buddy.
Nice work.
Just curious do you prune?
50 f or 10 c is my limit for temps.
I have a heater in the greenhouse set to come on if temps drop below 10c.
I also run a dehumidifier at night that throws off some heat at night.
Below 10 some sort of warmth would be beneficial.
It can cause condensation though if air temperature of the exterior of your greenhouse gets below that temp.
I find growth really slows below 10c and it’s reflected the next day as the pots and roots try and regain some warmth.
It won’t actually harm the plants at that temp.
Just not great when your trying to convince them to finish flowering. :Namaste:

Thanks con! ❤️

To be Honest... I was not sure how well a passive Turface Swick would do outdoors. I will say... it is doing way Better than my soil run last year! The growth has been Much greater, and I haven't had to struggle with watering. The individual res's give the me flexibility to add when it gets lower. Last year, not all plants needed to be fed at the same time, which led to Overwatering, and some Bud rot. Well, atleast I thought the rot was due to Overwatering? I did not see any bugs in the buds when I cut it out. If it doesn't happen this year, then I will be confident in my assumptions.

Thanks Bill284! ❤️

I have been pruning larfy stuff, and defoliating large leaves daily. A handful at a time. I also clipped a dorm fan by my SideChick because I noticed moisture where leaves were overlapped.

I fear drowning my plants in condensation if I add anything because it is so small, so I will wait to add anything until I have to. Seeing my tent held about 10 deg F warmer than ambient overnight, I may be ok till I harvest. Fingers crossed!🤞

Also, Thank you for the Speedy response! ❤️

they do look great, bud rot usually happens with poor air flow & high humidity & rain(wet buds) not over watering as far as i know

Please stop removing fan leaves. :Namaste:
They need them for energy.

Survey says.. you are correct! ❤️

Just took a Deep Dive into Google, and they say that Overwatering can raise humidity, but no mention of a direct connection. I think I have good airflow, and the tent prevents wet buds, so it was probably the high Michigan humidity, or bugs? I will keep a close eye on them these last few weeks and hopefully be able to deal with whatever is thrown at them!

If I do run into problems this year, I may switch to Fast Auto's next Summer! ❤️

i have heard that bug poop will also cause bud rot, fast autos Lol! i think i only had 1 auto finish on the breeders time line the rest where 12-17 weeks but i 90 degree LST which in my opinion lenthens veg time for autos as i learn & grow better those times might shorten in tent grows my outdoor autos i've tried usually 12-14 weeks but probably cause i usually start to early when night temps are still 6-8c & shitty soil but hopefully improve for next summers grow

Back in the day at RIU, when many people were being Banned for Nasty arguments about Defoliation, I took the advise of the thread poster, and tried it for myself with AMAZING results. Since then, I have tested defoliation in every stage of growth, from "low and slow " to the Schwazzing technique (Major Defol).

I am an avid Believer in the saying, Don't do anything to the plant unless you know what it does! So, in order to know, I did IT ALOT in the name of Science. I did stuff like that back then. That was about when I came up with the name... Med (Medicine) Science (Scientist). lol

Now, knowing what to do, or not do, and when to do it, or not do, when it comes to removing Fan leaves is One of my Strong areas of understanding, and probably my MOST used training technique, along side of LST, bending, and pinching.

I DO admit, it is hard to Defend, because there are so many variables depending on when, how much, how often...etc. But you can find Growers swearing to both ends of the spectrum on Google! ❤️

If I notice a leaf is dying I will pull it because it's taking nutrients up until it falls off and I'd rather redirect the energy to leafs that have some life in them. I did over defoliat a bunch of healthy leafs this year but it was to promote airflow and prevent aphids from spreading fast. I didn't defoliate for no reason.

I pulled a nug today because aphids fucked in it and died made one of my nugs turn brown like it was drying I just clipped off the infected area and it seems to of worked. I'm hoping my baby lacewings grow up fast and kill everything before harvest.

Leaves are nutrient sources (not sinks) once they get to size, so they're actually feeding the plant as they fade.
Shit well I only pulled leafs that stopped using photosynthesis

When you remove leaves she thinks she is being attacked by a predator and changes from steady growth to defense mode.
Then it takes time to revert back to growth mode.
Thus slowing growth.
Fan leaves store nutrients to support the buds when they need them.
Fan leaves are necessary for photosyntesis to make buds bigger and fulfill their potential.
I ran 5 rooms had a harvest every 4 weeks for many years.
I experimented with defol on many plants and logged my results every month.
I didn't max my tent until I stopped pulling leaves and let them grow.
If you see my girls any of them in all of my threads I have thick bushy girls with ALL thier foliage.
Gravity does my work for me now.
All my girls produce a large quantity of good buds.
With all their leaves intact.
I'm a proponent of bushy girls and cringe when I see a naked lady now.
Everyone has a method that works for them.
Your girls are beautiful.
Just telling a different point of view.:Namaste:
Two cents. 😉

Aye next year I'll definitely try the bill method on a bag or 2 haha 😄 let you make the calls so I can just use them to learn.
