McLoadie's Third Grow Journal

yesterday i had an idea, and i was praying to god and i mentioned that i would like to ride a buffalo in the parade.....dressed like an indian....on a saddle.....yeah, i may be weird, but what happened next is weird. We went to the smoke shop to get some cigs and were pulling out onto the street and a car stopped in the road right in front of us....i thought wtf?, but it's really not that unusual with the tourist here.......from around the world....idk if they even know how to drive. Much to my delight i looked in that car and it was my nephew and sister.............from a 1000 miles away in cali! Man was i happy, i told god that this was better than ridin a buffalo in the parade! The smoke is great, these buds are so dense.....it just looks like hash balls....but it's weed! The one in that pic is shaped like a heart!
that day was a good day!!!

I only read the last 2 pages of your journal. But when i have the time ill sit down and read all 56 pages. Life is to short not to.

the girls look great Mc! good weed right back atcha:circle-of-love:

How you manage to have so much resin... only see this on full indicas.
Is that your breeding efforts/pheno choice?

Yes, and yes, the thing is.....you can't make a diamond from a turd, it's genetics, combined with my convoluded ideas as to what a plant requires to reach it's genetic potential.....even a blind squirrell finds a nut now and then. As soon as I think I know something, I have an epiphany that shows me how little I know and I see a whole area that I need to devote more study to. The Yeti started out as a bag seed from some ok Mexican weed, a dude who kept killing top shelf clones I was supplying pissed me off so I planted some bag seeds to give him....LOL....there were 3 of em left over after he couldn't take...or kill........LOL.......any more. I had a compost pile and I scraped 3 shitty holes in the ground and put those bagseed plants in em...........the most beautiful plants I ever grew........a friend said that her plants had all turned male and she had a funny looking bubblegum kush that was different from the rest. It was a male and pollinated 12 nice top shelf females.....oops. I took pollen and selectively pollinated a coupla buds from a plant I called mexicandy....and that is how my best strain started..................

Those beautiful buds make me wish I knew someone around here, who knew someone who had some! Just gonna have to wait a few months for my own.

Subbed Mcloadie, it's an honor!

One man's misery...
Guess the plants liked you better :)

One day ill step in your footsteps. Maybe soon, if i can get them to herm branch by branch!

Do you think crossing plants from the same bank/strain/seedbag would bring out dna problems like with humans?

Welcome jeff, you never know when opportunities will present themselves..............just like all of us, you'll do the best you can with what you have and max it out, right now you are developing your grow style, your ideas will change as you gain knowledge and experience, it's just like that hill....they told me to take it, and I will, however I decide I can...............

The strengths and weaknesses of any plant or strain will be revealed to you through time. There's no magic strain or method, the best way is selective breeding, you don't have to pollinate the whole plant. You need to be on the lookout for prospective pollen donors. The hermie genetics are in every plant..........I promise, how likely they express themselves is the issue....some plants herm easily....others are hard to get to do it. Male to female...sexual reproduction is the best IMHO. Another thing I'm learning is that clones are treated completely differently than seed plants by some commercial growers I know...they say the seed plants take very little nutes and are wayyyy less likely to have issues!

Morning McLoadie. Gotta agree with you on the hps being an obnoxious light. I have my blue hps glasses hanging at the door so I put them on before I even open the tent- I can't stand that piss yellow color. And even with the exhaust fan running full blast and the house AC on, the temp alarm went off at 5 am this morning because it hit 90 in the tent. GRRRRR! I keep looking at all the guys running led lights and wonder if I shouldn't have spent the extra bucks and gone with the led. Plus maybe its cause I'm a girl but that pink color is soooo pretty.:cheesygrinsmiley:

looks good. Loadster. I don't use cal/mag . Too many cheaper options to keep you calcium levels higher than your magnesium level. I.E. Gypsum

Could you please elaborate on the Ca alternative. I know what gypsum is, ie drywall, but I'm unsure how one uses it to feed plants.

I've had some interesting conversations in the past coupla days with my visitors from nor cal. I try to learn what the trends are in not only the markets, but on the growers side of the subject. The markets suck, you can get top shelf meds for a hundred bucks an oz. if you know somebody. Now, I would like to mention that these low cost meds are commercial products, the weed we produce in our microgrows, or even jon in his garden of love is a significantly higher quality product. From my observations it appears that there is a great deal of attention being paid to appearance.........my samples are the densest I've ever seen, potency and flavor seem to have taken back stage to appearance. The methods were spelled out to me in a pretty detailed manner. The trend is the amendment or construction of soils, with little fertilizing during the life cycle of the plant. The thing they are using.............or many are using is superthrive. I will spend some time to get the application rates for reference......if anyone wonders....I know I do. Bat guano and worm castings is the word.

Interesting. The Seattle market is about the same. $100 ounces aren't the norm, but it happens.

This is a little encouraging though. I've been trying to find ways to differentiate myself in the marketplace. I think purity and/or cleanliness will be what distinguishes my product. I'm going to wash, ala Curso and DocBud methods, all my plants this round, but I'll leave a little from each strain unwashed. Then I'll setup a display so patients can view both buds. They can even sample the difference. Basically, I'm taking it upon myself to try and educate patients a little. Maybe try to explain to them what you're describing, and then show them why they need MY buds. :)

Thanks for sharing what you learned about the market in CA.

Yours pics look quite yummy. Too bad you didn't like the HPS. How do you think the yields will compare, both quality and quantity?

I didn't post on your journal fc, but I did make a comment sorta on reps I gave you. My room was 88 when I woke up today, it got to 93 yesterday, I'm outta options and they're just gonna have to do it like this! I think your plants...being close in age to mine have more potential than mine......I'm very interested to see what you end up with, this has been my toughest grow, but the quality this time is makin me smile!

The strains are all different....the quality looks the same, the yield is going to be interesting, the plants under the induction appear to be more mature. If I had the hps in a whole other room I could probably put up with it.....I want a room I can hang 1k hps bulbs in the open inbetween the plants.....and fixtures above of course.

Ok, so do we think it's workin yet?
