MaxYield's Second Soil Journal - Strawberry Diesel - CFL Veg & LED Flower

Thank you so very much Sue :cheesygrinsmiley: She is quite a large lady, and to be honest I'm not sure when it happened! When she grows in front of my eyes I barely notice.. but when I look at the difference between updates, it is mind-boggling!
True indeed.

Wow thats a big girl!! Beautiful! Max, Have you switched to 12/12 yet? If not i don't know how much above room you have but shes going to go crazy when u flip her!

On the defoil i personally wouldn't do anything until you switch to flower and let them shoot up. Then after they start stretching you can tell which tops and colas are going to do good and get light. Any small ones underneath i would start trimming them after about the first week of flowering. Im about 4 weeks in flower and im still trimming new side sprouts/colas that are trying to form under my net. They would never be anything anyway. Some people have set times to defoil but I dont. I cut as needed once i see what isnt going to produce! No need to trim the fan leaves. They will start naturally falling off and shedding as needed. I may take some pics tonight of my two girls and as you will see the whole underneath the net is completely clear from naturally falling off and absorbing the nutrients from the fan leaves that i left. I will never cut another fan leaf off.

Beautiful work!!! =)

MAX! What's up brother? Looking yummy in there!

Can we address the elephant in the room though? Wow that thing is gonna smoke with the thickness! Y.S.-ing (Yellow-Smokin) like a mug we used to say...When you get a real good bong rip going and right before you pull to clear it you realize the thick yellow death that is about to put you on the floor! So you close your eyes and pull it anyway and, in the same motion, hand the bong over to a friend just in case you can't hang!

And how big is your Strawberry Diesel pot? 10 gal?

Peace

Trig

Hey there Trig!!!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, was in the mountains all weekend competing in the Red Bull Shlittentag race! I appreciate it my friend, she is lookin' to be a pretty greasy girl, lots of trics... I am excited to smoke her for sure! I can't wait to see how hard she hits me, I know that yellow smoke cloud of death all to well... Seeing it is a blessing and a curse!

My SD is in a 15gal GeoPot. She seems to love it! :cheesygrinsmiley:

I guess I missed this comment the first time!! Sorry about that Hunter :cheesygrinsmiley:

I have not switched her to 12/12 yet, she has about 11 more weeks to Veg... my Bloom Tent is a good 7' tall, so hopefully I will be okay... I might have to give her some LST before the flip to fill out my 2'x4' Bloom Tent, but whatever I have to do she will be contained :cheesygrinsmiley:

As far as defoliation goes, I like your approach. Unfortunately for me, I am still refining my methodology, so I just CAN'T stop myself from defoliating my plants. Honestly I have seen nothing bad come from it, so at this point I see the benefits of both sides.

I did end up giving her a pretty large defoliation... She was getting super bushy and crowded after her 11 toppings, so I decided to clear out the undergrowth and let her focus on the top growth. This time around was the first time I saw an immediate reaction from my plant, she was very droopy ( as if under watered) when I got done. It only took her a couple hours to bounce back up though... We will see if growth is severely effected or not.

Thank you very much for the input Hunter, I wish I could follow your advice and stop myself from cutting my plants up... But so far I have not succeeded. Maybe some day :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley:

Now worries Max!!

11 More week!?!?!! :thedoubletake::thedoubletake: May i ask why such a long veg time? What kind of lights are you going to be putting on that HUGE girl? I hope you are going to be running at LEAST two 600 watts or a 1000 watt! Otherwise the long veg time will be worthless!!

Haha well I don't really have a choice haha. I ended up inheriting 3 plants that currently take up all of my Bloom space... I am doing some training and defoliation to maximize her potential up top, and by the time she gets put in the Bloom Tent I should (hopefully) have three Platinum LED P300's in there... Which will make up the extra wattage I need for a good yield. She will be ran solo.

- PURPLE ELEPHANT UPDATE : FLOWER DAY 50 -

Hey there 420mag friends!
Got a quick update on the Purple Elephant for ya, she is chugging along nicely and putting on a noticeable amount of size daily. She is already 3-4x the size of my previous ladies.. couldn't be happier. Today she is getting a flush, been giving my Coco girls a weekly flush of 2gallons Denver Tap PH'ed to 5.8, seems to keep build up in control and they like it.

She will also receive her seventh Foliar Feeding of Snow Storm Ultra today about 2 hours before lights out. She is frosting up very nicely, although she isn't purple which is kind of a let down... oh well. Will check trichomes next wednesday for some amber, at about 50% White 50% Clear.

Her normal feedings for the next week will be 15ml FoxFarm Big Bloom / 7.5ml FoxFarm Grow Big / 5ml FoxFarm Tiger Bloom / .25tbsp FoxFarm Cha Ching / 3ml Botanicare Cal-Mag per gallon of Water.

- SOUR MONSTER & CARLS JR. : DAY 33 -

Alrighty guys, here is a little update on my Sour Monster and Carls Jr., both of which are doing great! They have been drinking their reservoirs every day and need to be fed every morning. Both of the ladies are poppin' lots of pistils and they gettin' nice and chunky.

Flush today with Denver Tap PH'ed to 5.8, also gettin' their sixth or seventh (I forget) of Snow Storm Ultra. Both of them are gettin' really frosty but the Sour Monster is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of Trich production.

Feeding the same as Purple Elephant, no tip burn at all unlike the Purple Elephant.

Thanks my friend, I can't help but drool when I'm in my tent :cheesygrinsmiley:

Looking great my dude!

Appreciate it Trig!!! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Nice updates bro. Sour Monster loves those nutes. Can't wait to flower one of the purple elephants we cloned. Bummer no purple huh? Hopefully my Black Eyed Katy is purple pheno. I really want to grow some purps.

Yeah definitely a bummer.... and you should be excited to flower on of them! They are a fun grow, definitely worth it to keep around for a little while :cheesygrinsmiley: I'm just praying your BEK is purple man, we need some purps in our lives! haha

Thanks for stopping by Sub! :high-five:

Oh ok! 3 leds!? Wow those together should give you nice yield!! Cant wait to see you flower her under those! Keep up the great work max! Purps or not that one girl looks amazingggg! :yummy:

Sorry if you have said it but since you are doing two growing styles now which do you like the best? I started with DWC and switched to soil and like it so much better... But ive really been thinking about doing some grows with "The captn style" with rockwool and a pump.

Also i wanted to ask how do you apply and the amount of earthworm castings for your flowering girls? I just bought some and would like to follow your method on use! Thanks!

Hey Hunter!! :cheesygrinsmiley:

I really appreciate the encouragement, I am more than proud of my ladies and can't wait to see how they finish out :cheesygrinsmiley: And yeah! 3 P300's should get the job done :cheesygrinsmiley:

On the growing styles, I think at this point I prefer Coco Hempy's or Coco/Perlite in a GeoPot but only because of how smoothly things have gone compared to my first Soil Grow. However, I do really like the ease of watering soil, every 2-3 days is perfect for me since I can't be at my grow room everyday...

I wish I could give you a better answer, however considering the PH problems in my first grow I can't get a totally fair comparison of the two. I can guarantee that the Coco Hempy's and the Coco/Perlite GeoPot are far easier to care for than DWC... I have thought about going Cap'n Style, the growth in soilless top feed systems is insane.

However I mixed up my High Brix soil two days ago and will be growing three plants in it outdoors this summer... So we will see how that goes :cheesygrinsmiley:

....

As far as top-dressing with EWC... I just followed SweetSues advice and spread a 1" layer over the entire pot (this was on my Strawberry Diesel who is still in Veg however) and then massaged it in to the top layer of soil. I ended up adding some more soil because there was an extremely thick layer of roots right under the topsoil. Then I watered her until I saw a good bit of run off.

She seemed a little sad at first but the second day... my god the growth.

I hope that helps my friend :cheesygrinsmiley: Definitely recharged the soil, which is exactly what she needed. :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley:
