MassMedMan's Greenhouse

Go to BigPumpkins.com, join, and then you can join in online seed auctions they have at certain times.

I cannot answer your PM because I do not have 50 posts But I can still read them.. I will send you 4 packets with 2 seeds in each one. My contribution to you and the kids to attempt a BIG one.

Thanks for that site, Rudy. I'll sign up. I'll send you my PO box info. In return for your blind generosity, I'll send you some salsa if you like, or a bean from my collection of your choice, or I'll donate to the charity of your choice. Once I get the seeds from you, I'll next day one each to Mr Panty...since I have his address. How's that sound to you? Thank you very much, I've been big pumpkin seed hunting for a while. That site is loaded with info, it's your fault if I'm not here as much ;)

I'll get the PO info, it's my wife's but I use it occasionally.....

:Namaste:

That sounds awesome. I'm signing up there right now. Same here bean of your choice. Look through what I got. I even got my own genetics now. Mass have fun with mom's day. I'm gonna garden may call later.

Taking wife and daughter to brunch. Then buying a kids kitchen thingy for daughter once I'm home I'll do a few videos. Might not upload for 24 hrs.

Thanks 3m for letting me be a part of this vegtastic extravaganza

Thanks vegetable gardening is new to me. First year besides a 8' tall tomato plant and some peppers like 5 years ago.
I'm just following massmedman and ranger and doing what they recommend.
Hey Bob your hobbies say tube builds. So amps? You a musician? Or maybe is it a job you repair them? Or was it like military training for audio. No need to answer I just own a recording studio and own a ton of gear.

Hey there Dutty thanks for noticing.. so yes to all questions. I build tube amps from scratch, I play 5-string banjo (traditional/old time style), do repairs on vintage gear, rebuild vintage gear (mostly solid state)... oh and have a full time job and grow indoor and outdoor gardens. I do electronics in the late fall/winter time/early spring not so much when I'm outdoors more. Ton of gear?? haha yep me too! We built our own home studio mostly for listening to LPs and ganga tho. I don't play thru amplification, banjo is pretty loud already!!! Self taught on electronics but I went to college for engineering. No where to learn tube stuff anymore, I had to figure it out. Not a lot different than solid state gear just different devices and significantly higher voltage.

Hey guys,
Saw you're both planting broccoli. 1 of my fav veg, especially when you push it. To push, harvest high on the plant and leave some leaves. A couple days later mini-heads will start to pop out in a spiral pattern up what's left of the stalk. These mini-heads can be harvested just like the main, and can be 1/3-1/2 the weight of the main harvest. Cool thing is, you don't even have to chop them! They're bite-size. Emperor and deCicco both multi-crop readily. Others may also, but these are the vars I've done.

Good morning, Brother.
Spuds need to be buried in 6-8" of wheat straw. That will keep them nice and damp. Too little, and they'll dry out and die. So in all, 4-6" straw below, and 6-8" over the spuds.

As a general rule, you have enough mulch when the bottom 1-2" is damp and the top 1-2" is dry(er). That way you know you're getting weed-suppression and water retention.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't. I'd just let them ride, figuring, it may not be perfect, but they're in the ground and they will make spuds. In this case though, your beds look skinny also. 4-5' wide is good, because you'll be piling more straw on through the season as they grow. This is what makes them ez to harvest.
I'd be tempted to dig out what I could easily find, spade/till bed a little wider, amend, and plant as planned. You may need to add a few more sproutlings.
Keep an eye out for slugs/snails (as usual in the PacNW). If you see any, chase the ducks in there for the afternoon.
Almost forgot about the broccoli! After main harvest, give the plants a good drink. Diluted blood is best, but water will do. Then clean out waterer w/vinegar water.

Does Doc know you're running a pumpkin with his kit!!! You're awesome man... before you know it pumpkin growers ate going to be calling him..... you should work a cut now before it blows up...... ;)

I'm too late, they'll bolt on me at this point,, but this fall I'll try your tip. Thank you!

I don't understand, MMM. Broccoli shouldn't be bolting up there for a while. I probably wasn't clear when describing pushing.
Plant as usual in Spring/Fall. Amend bed w/: blood & bone meal, wood ash and eggshells (Ca).
At harvest, instead of harvesting low (like commercial grows), cut the head high leaving as much stalk and leaf as possible.
Water heavily and topdress w/whatever's on hand.
New itty-bitty heads will spiral right up the stalk. Cute little boogers are ready for the wok w/no chop-chop.

Can't say enough good about deCicco. Pushes easily, w/ropes of new headlets, no pest-disease problem (in IL, WA, LA, NY, MA & GA), grown right it'll go so green it's almost blue. Very beautiful. Heirloom, so rock steady genetix.
Sorry for rambling a bit here. Hope any of this helps.

I might be using the wrong term, but in the past when I've planted broccoli in mid to late May,, I get nothing but flower. The only time I've had luck with broccoli is when I get it in the ground by mid April.

Tips For Preventing Bolting In Broccoli Plants

I'm going to buy some broccoli starts today,, I'll try, might find a spot that the soil is a little cooler and not full sun all morning. Busy next few days in the garden.... it's been a busy month.
