Masonman's - Hi-Brix - Jock Horror - 2016

Hey mason I reread your post about having humidity issues with lights on? My situation is opposite of than at night I have to blare the dehuey to.keep.the humidity down around 50%.....it runs so much my night time temps don't get much below 71 at night.....that is until the furnace or house AC comes on, then no problems at all.....anyway enough ramble just thought it was odd to need to control the humidity with lights on but not lights off?

I think I relied too much on previous posts about my general conditions. Made my most recent unclear. I'll try again.

My grow cabinet is located in a spare bedroom. the spare bedroom has an AC window unit and a 32 pint dehumidifier that keep temps at 67F and 50%RH 24 hours a day.

During the dark period, I set my exhaust fan to run continually. The fan will change the air in the cabinet 2.5 - 3 times a minute, so never a problem with humidity during the dark period.

When the lights come on, I rely on the LED to heat up the cabinet to 77F. This happens very slow. Usually takes hours for the fan to finally kick on to exhaust some heat. During that time, I'm generating CO2. It's slow, so the lack of exhaust if perfect. But, the humidity skyrockets. That is why I was curious about a mini dehuey for the cabinet. So I could continue to supplement CO2 without exhausting it before it gets a chance to build up the PPM.

So, I lowered the temperature controller to 74F during lights on. Now the exhaust kicks on faster and more frequent, but I'm losing all my CO2. Humidity rises to around 60% at 74F, then back down to 50% at 72F when the fan kicks off. I have two 6" circulating fans in the cabinet, so I'm not too worried for now.

Hey mason, thanks for clearly that all up....I guess to fix the problem I would say don't worry bout the extra co2.....with one plant if ya kept the fresh air coming in all the time like at night time I would think there is plenty of co2 for her......I suppose if ya had to know get a ppm tester......lol or like ya say a bigger light....:cheesygrinsmiley:, that would be my solution.......:passitleft:

Yeah, I was thinking screw the CO2 also. Was a nice idea, just cannot seem to make it work the way I want.

I looked into the mini dehueys. There are gel based models that can absorb .75L which doesn't seem like much, but it might be perfect for your situation. What I found attractive is that you redry them with electricity, so they could run off a timer. You could time them to be off (and absorbing moisture) during that heating period when your humidity spikes, and on (and dumping moisture) when the fan kicks in.

:hmmmm:

I finally had time to do a little research into the gel-based models. Unfortunately, They take 30-60 days to absorb moisture to capacity. Sounds like they would be good for a safe that rarely opens.

Thank you for suggestion though. :thanks:

Day 10 Flip

Things are going smooooooth!!!

So, I grabbed a pair of scissors... Bet you know where this is going!

I was eyeballing this pesky fan leaf way in the back. And after careful consideration, I proceeded to cut off a main top.

Actually I had a sad.

The good news is I got that farking fan leaf!

7 out of 9 clones made it. Not too bad for my first time. I'm pretty pleased with myself. My new veg cabinet should be built in the next week or two. Just in time for one of the clones. My plan is to keep a teen mom and a vegged plant ready for flower cabinet each harvest.

Thank you Doc for the teen mom idea. I'm sure it will take a couple runs to get the timing down, but in my mind, I think it will work well.

Sorry about your snipping accident. I normally take my 1/2 closed scissors, position them near the base of the leaf, then slide the scissors down the petiole and snip when the scissors hit the trunk or branch. I have snipped off a popcorn bud this way, but never anything important.

Is that rhododendron in there? I'd be interested in hearing if your rhodo or azalea grows roots.

I tried rooting some rose canes this month - no dice, the leafless canes just turned black.

Give 'em a nice feeding and DeStress spray. I think you'll put them into the zone right quick.

Yeah, it's rhododendron. The only thing I did different, was instead of lightly scraping the stem, I used a razor and scored 2 vertical cuts in the stem. Have to get through the tough skin/bark. I haven't checked for roots yet, but I'm sure they are doing well. They love the daily 1/2 strength DeStress.

Perfect timing Doc. She was ready for water.

I went a little heavy on the feeding like you suggested. I have at least 20 gallons of soil in the pot. So I Figured a half kits worth of food. And then I went extra strength. I came up with:

1.5ML Tea
5ML Transplant
20ML Growth Energy

Added to 2.75 gallons of fresh dehumidifier water....
Then she got a good spraying of DeStress.

Question
I know I'm supposed to follow directions until I learn what all the different foliars/drenches do, but I'm just not seeing anything. The plant is beautiful, I'm sure everything is working. I just can't tell the difference between straight water and a drench or Brix vs. DeStress. I don't know exactly what I should be looking for after a GE drench for example. So I can see how it effects the plant. Same goes for all the kit products.

Any help would be appreciated.

Decided to check the roots on the clones for the first time today. I only pulled 1 and took this picture. No visible roots yet on the rhododendron. Will check back in a few days.

How long can I let the clones sit in the cloner until I have to transplant? I think I have heard up to a month. Is there anything special I need to do to keep them that long? I still need a little time to get the new veg cabinet up and running.

Perfect on the feeding!

So, what are you learning? Well, for starters you're learning that following the directions has given you a beautiful plant. That's a good lesson.

You'll begin to see something when you Cat Drench, and as the plant progresses through bloom, you'll see what the foliars can do. Just pay attention, you'll notice things.

On your clones, they can stay in there longer. After a few days, pop them out again and trim the roots back a bit. No more than 10 days.

Beautiful clones. Very nice looking roots.

Up to a month is my experience in a bubble cloner / splashing water cloner.

A few days is my experience in rockwool - So I would agree with Doc Bud on trimming roots and 10 days max.

(Of course I agree with Doc Bud, he knows A LOT more about growing cannabis than I ever expect to know :) - I only chimed in here because I believe I put the " month in the cloner" thought out there. )

Putting the finishing touches on my new veg cabinet. Primer is drying, just needs paint.

This is my second DIY cabinet. This is what I learned.

They are heavy
They are ugly
When you estimate the cost, double it
When you estimate time, double it
When you think you got everything from the store you need, turn around and go back

Cutting a round hole in thin steel is a pain in the ass. Didn't want to spend $30 for a hole saw I'd use once. So, here is a tip if you find yourself having to do it.

Layout the fans the way you want them and trace perimeter with a pencil. Using a deck screw or similar, insert into the mounting holes of the fan and gently strike with a hammer. Trace a line diagonally from corner to corner to find the center. Use screw and hammer to mark the center. Use a compass to draw the circle.

Screw the sheet metal to a scrap piece of plywood just like you were mounting it. Drill a pilot hole large enough for a jigsaw blade to pass through.

Clamp plywood to a rigid surface and test that you can maneuver the saw around the circle without obstruction.
Run saw at full speed, but cut very slow.

Buy 2 pieces of sheet metal... lol

I only had one and I tried 3 different ways until the above worked. It looks like crap, but works.

The expandable foam around the electrical boxes was necessary to stop light leaks.
I use a Meanwell 12 volt 1 amp constant voltage driver for the two fans. The power cord runs through the wall to the receptacle on the inside so it can be plugged into the temp controller. Sucks the controller has a built-in photo-sensor. Would love a remote sensor, but those only exist for the large climate controllers.

I added some 3D models of the inlet and outlet light traps for those that are curious. Of course they all got painted flat black

Yeah buddy!....:thumb:

Thank you Budley... Was a lot of work and money, but I'll be able to will it to my grandchildren.. If I ever has children lol!!!

+reps Masonman! That is an excellent DIY!

Thank you for the reps Shiggity. I don't understand though. What do reps do? I don't see anywhere that I can see what I received or anyone else for that matter. I tend to forget I can give them because of that. I still cannot find the area in notifications where it alerts me to a new PM either.

P.S. I got tracking by telephone. My new light will be here 5-24. Just in time for Cat Drench. I'm so excited. Thank you for the help hooking me up.
