Hello I'm new to 420 and have a question about these lights. I grow under 600 hps now in a 4x3.7x7.5 usually grow 4 to 5 plants in hydro. I use a quality mh bulb for veg and a quality hps bulb for flower. I'm looking at the Mars II 1200w light. Is this light just for veg or veg in flower. I didn't see in the description that it has a veg flower switch. Would this light work for me? Thanks a lot.
I have a question to anyone using the mars II 1200 for flowering... how much space are you putting between the top of your plant canopy and the light itself? I have read for seedings 2 ft, but I hardly think that would be efficient for flowering. Is 6 inches too little? What is the optimal distance to place? Thank you!

So far I am putting lights at about 6'6" and then letting plants grow up to light. So I have my seedlings 5 feet away and they not stretching. I think 2 feet is even to close for flowering with the 5w diodes.

I had my 3W reflector light ~ 10-12" from some plants and burned the crap out of them. That will be way too close with 5W diodes. Didn't your light come with a paper inside saying the optimal distance?
I don't have the 5w but I do have several of the 3w TopLeds and I just had to move my lights up off my girls in flower and had to move heaven and hell to get them any higher but I was afraid it would burn the buds. They are in full flower now and have stretched a lot and I have the lights as high as possible without tearing down ceilings (not going to happen) and they are only about 6 or 7" off the tallest girl and so far so good. I held my hand on top of the tallest girl and it was barely warm but if I had my rathers it would be at least 12" off of them. So with that being said I know the 5w get warmer than the 3w but have a better fan system but the lights themselves if too close will burn no matter how good the fan is so if it were my girls I think if it were possible I would raise the lights to at least 12". I didn't keep the papers that came with my lights but I do think there were guidelines included in them. I checked on the site and it is not listed there but I'm sure Sara will confirm what the suggested heights are for your specific light. Hope this rambling has helped ya some...I have a question to anyone using the mars II 1200 for flowering... how much space are you putting between the top of your plant canopy and the light itself?
