Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

Yo glenny, another from the land of oz going for LEDs, love it!!! I say keep away from that jr spec as people were having trouble with the uv diodes burning out. The flower spec the company offers was helpt by area51 design and a grower from here, working amazing. Company spec is also picking up great results. I was going to get the flower spec but dollar dropping and shipping I saved quite a bit as they have them stocked here already. Good luck bro, peace

Hey GrizzWald,
So you using std spec at the moment?, what size?. If $ wasn't an issue would you have gone for flower spec
EyWhat you reckon with getting a veg light in blue

Sorry for all the questions, want to get this right first time with the hardware.

Where you from matey

Glenny, yeah I would have loved to have gone flower spec. I got 2x400 & 700 hope to get couple of 900 in flower spec at later date when/if room get expanded. Love a 8 x6 with two 900& two 400's, one day maybe. Haven't looked into veg spec cause I popped seeds, cfl's to roots filled cup then into hempy under 400 led, they are loving it. Ghetto streets of south/west Vic or last ten years anyway, you man? Peace

Hey Grizz,
What size shed you running with your current LEDs . Would you go for a 1200w or 2 x say 700w for a 1.2 x 1.2m tent?
I haven't done a grow for over 25 years so starting from scratch. Shit long before the net & even hydro shops lol

Hear you man, I'm outdoors man but hoping to grow in doors to fill my own habit and get some nice bubble and edibles without the hard work.mines all personal and this is basically to find what's possible with this my setup. vegging couple in a 150x50 only using 50x 50 at moment, flower under my 400&700 in a 180x 90 should get three plants, hoping 10 ounces. If this happens be no need to upgrade except it seems addictive and big bushes would be nice to grow, but I smoke two ounces a month (less once get vaporizer, hopefully!):peace:I heard early on that three 400 are better than one 1200 so this has been my line of thought, could be wrong. But I would say two 700's more options to hang and direct light. No gospel just ideas, thoughts and suggestions, I'm prepared to be told otherwise.:peace:

Heres a link to Curso's thread, hes running 2 factory spec 1200 Mars II's in a 4 x 8 tent, exactly double yours,
Curso's True High Brix!
I would say hes getting full coverage, one 1200 would work very well in your space.
Im running 2 Custom Area 51 flower specs 1200w Mars II's in my room if you would like to check them out, heres the link,
DrDankNstien's Perpetual High Brix & SuperSoil Grow With TopLed's Custom Mars II

If you dont mind me asking, why 10 plants in a 4 x 4? How much headroom do you have in your space? why not 4 bigger plants? its easier to take care of 4 larger plants and your yield would probably be better, theres no reason why you cant get a lb or more out of a 4 x 4 with 4 plants and a little training as long as theres enough headroom, you need around 28 inches between the panel and the canopy:)

Welcome to 420 Glenyboy. i to was new guy and the response is GREAT ! 420:420: & topledgrowlight have been awesome and the the people on the form are even BETTER! Lots of views & thoughts will come ur way soon. This is the top site ( I spend my time here) some site no feed back or stupid answers. Lots of MASTERS here, I listen and learned to produce good yields.

Good to have u :thumb:

Cheers

Just so u know its -25 here today , how I wish I was u today ! Peace:Namaste:

After i finaly managed to send Sara my email, i got a fast and short answer. She answered me early the same thing about fans and switching like to Grizzw'.
So i screwed up my first reflector 96*3W, opened it and saw all the components inside well ordered and screwed. No glue used and cable ties only for safty or tidy. The fans are (good) standard pc fans (120mm) with good volume flow rate, both connected via a fix soldered and shrink sleevered Y cable to a single plug connect (and them to the ~12V power supply). If you can connect cables with good "cable clips" (and these metal capsule for the end of wire are also recommended), it's a work of less a quater hour. I took some pictures, if there questions or a small thread for this.
I replaced the fans with some "ultra noise" fans, and yes they are quieter now. Not much, but hearable in twice ways.

While working and experimenting, i got a good demonstration that even a lowest-noise fan becomes louder an louder, when his enclosing box becomes smaller. Air current, turbulations,... So an other possibility would be to enlarge a little bit the space between fan and metal case. At the reflector 96', it was nearly 1 cm space between them. Could it be, that the MarsII models are bit higher and/or other screw positions?

As for myself, i'm contended with it now. My 5W circulation fans are now more hearable than the lights, so i could still play around if i wish to dampen the breeze.

...I heard early on that three 400 are better than one 1200
As for my self, i'm really happy with 2 units instead a single one. One 96*3 hangs horizontal and next to it 'bout 60° shifted upwards. I'm still undecided if i will ever raise my scissor against one of the arms from my darlings. They are halfway of the bloom of life and still uncut in any way.

Hi guys,

Whilst we're on the subject of the effect this light (specifically the Mars 2 1200w) has on noise, can anyone give us an idea of the effect it will have on temperature, and therefore fan choice?

In my particular case i have just purchased a 5 x 5 tent, which i will be using 4 x 25ltr (5 gallon) Autopots inside. I have looked into buying a 6" inline exhaust fan and Carbon filter, along with a 4" intake.

If the Mars 2 produces less heat that it's HPS etc equivalents, do i need to look into a completely new process of ventilation? Does the air in the tent need to be changed as often, and if not, does this mean a CO2 setup might work better with an LED setup for that reason?

Thanks guys, i haven't purchased anything ventilation related yet so feel free to give any products/advice you think would work with my 5 x 5 tent and 1200w Mars 2. I don't want to spend a fortune, but i would rather spend a bit more and get it right first time.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the reply. I will be purchasing a fan cotrol unit to help wit the temperature, my two main questions are

1) is there a significant difference in the LEDs heat production in a tent compared to other light types and
2) therefore does the air need to be changed as often. If not, i might look further into a CO2 setup.

Thanks again.

1) A LED light panel will produce less heat then a Metal Halide light or a High Pressure Sodium light and require less venting as a result.

2) The air in your grow area should be exchanged every 5 minutes.

Hi,

I know this is going off topic now, but one final question if that's ok....does the air in a tent need to be exchanged every 5 minutes regardless of air temperature? I was under the impression that the air exchange was in order to stop the temperature from getting too high, but is it for other reasons too?

Thanks again and sorry for being a bit of a noob, there's a lot to learn, especially when dealing with this new LED technology!

Cheers

I can't find it in the thread.

What is the difference between Reflector LED and Mars II. I understand that the reflector has a switch for flowering and veg but is there any other difference? I have a 4 x 4 x7ft tent and will probably grow 3 or 4 plants in soil.

One uses 3W LEDs and the other uses 5W LEDs (Mars 2)

For your setup i'd recommend a 1200w Mars 2. :)
